Disappointed to find out that the thinkspace courses you promote so heavily doesn’t actually include individual lessons or tutorials from you. Only video content. It’s a little misleading I think in my opinion how it’s made out that you are involved so much but actually the reality is you’re not
I had bought violins 1 and cellos and was waiting for the rest. Their customer service wouldn’t give an ETA for the rest. I kind of had to buy VSL duality strings instead, and oh my, they are so much better. Same sound, more mics, more articulations, more control on the patches, lighter on the machine. Great sound from ARO, but the limited articulations and demand on resources makes them a frustrating library to work with.
I’m surprised ARO is using high resources it is ram heavy , but it’s so CPU light on my M3 max , better than any other legato library I have and I have most
@@AndyGrayedout I also have M3 max with 96gb ram, it takes ages to load, and if I want to experiment with mics to find the right sound it’s frustrating. Duality strings have also dozen of mics and they just play instantly, same quality of sound.
Really good lower cost string libraries: 8Dio Anthology Strings, 8Dio Century Strings, Nashville Scoring Strings, Spitfire Studio Strings, the list goes on an on. I really think what you're paying for here is the brand name and room, but how much of a difference is there really? So if you can afford this, by all means get it. But if you can't, there are a lot of really great lower cost alternatives.
Also ones that are great and not "too pricey" are Cinematic Studio Strings, Performance Samples Con Moto, Performance Samples Vista, Performance Samples Pacific, and the soon to be released Performance Samples Vista II
Great vid Guy. Would you consider a tutorial on the subject on how one would choose what instruments to put to a tune one has created. Some of us sketch with piano and strings, and then we rub our chins wondering what instruments to orchestrate with, if you get my drift.
I bought the new strings. They actually sound very nice. Unfortunately, it quickly turns out that they are very inflexible. The reverb is too long for me. So you have to mix different microphones. This even overloads my Power MAC. I also have the VSL Duality Strings, which sound at least as good. The advantage of the VSL is the shorter reverb and the almost unlimited programming options. I have programmed my own legato patches, which offer even more flexibility.
The only thing I don't like about Spitfire libraries is they always seem to be heavily drowned in reverb. Using other libraries it is way more beneficial to have very dry samples to match with a reverb plug-in.
Problem is that the revamped Spitfire SO recorded in Air Lindhurst offers arguably more for the money. The newly programmed performance patches for Kontakt are a joy to play, and have no issue with fast runs. It seems AR strings need more optimisation, not to mention the boring Spitfire player.
What's interesting Is Guy pointing out the voice count (which is high) it's definitely memory heavy, but on an M3 Max in Cubase you don't get any performance Peak at all even while playing live at 128buffer , much less than BBC Violin 1 ! and if you compare this to the SA Total performance patches in Kontakt which have massive CPU spikes (while playing live) this wins hands down , some how its very CPU light!
Pedant here: Speed of data transfer is usually given in bits per second rather than bytes. Mbps is mega bits per second. Bytes is more typically used for data storage.
Sounds fabulous. Do I really need more strings? I have Spitfire Symphonic and Chamber Strings, Appassionata strings and others that I don't use much like those on Ark 1 and 8dio ostinato strings. The answer is yes! But not right now. I have my eye on OT's Peteris Vasks strings which is a gorgeous sounding chamber string section recorded in a Latvian church. VERY reverberant but also has close mics for a dryer sound, and has lots of articulations including interesting ones like slides. A different beast altogether, serving a different purpose from Abbey Road though. Would be great to have both but need to curb my library purchasing habit! Getting expensive!
Regarding the price for the name brand of Abbey road, is it not just better to buy a good standard vst and a good convolution reverb? I just can't see why the room can't be 99.9% replicated in a more versatile way.
So, as everybody has probably discovered with one new library or another from various companies, this one, you're saying, you'll almost certainly going to have to buy new faster and or larger drive for this. I assume you moved the previous strings from this new Spitfire AR over to that drive too? If so, how smoothly did spitfire handle that? Some companies if you have to delete and move libraries to make room for upgrades it can royally mess up previous projects. I have had spitfire get confused over where my LABS are, though now they have a whole new way of handling LABS, which might be a new Guy video at some point.
The abbey road collection is my favorit. I love every bit of it and cant without. Im so glad its start moving again. Now we just need the rest. However, how come we didnt get any leaders in this? Anyone know?
Because they will most likely sell those as a separate product. Pretty normal for libaries. OT also does this. As does everyone else pretty much. Be nice to add some though wouldn't it
sadly this is way out of our price range here in NZ as our exchange rate causes the price to be doubled... we always get hit hard when it comes to buying libraries down under
@@CraigRodmellMusic Yeah, it's crazy, eh? @@CampbellDownie Yeah, one of my pet peeves is sites/videos/individuals stating that such-and-such is cheap at just $xxx - when what they REALLY mean is US$xxx, in which case, it's anything BUT cheap for those of us whose currency isn't US$.
@@CraigRodmellMusic Absolutely. Even the subscription models are now getting too expensive. I just dumped Waves and Zytotope; I cannot justify the spend versus the use. They put the price up, our dollar moves a bit, and suddenly, it's costing 2.5 times more. It's just crazy and yeah, annoying. 49 dollars is 100 bucks to us, and they don't realise it or don't care.
@@CampbellDownie I don't want anything to do with subscription software. I've had any number of people/TH-camrs quote the EastWest subscription as being cheap at just $20 a month. Excuse me? That's actually $36 per month by the time it arrives on my credit card bill - ouch! It doesn't take a mathematician to know that that VERY quickly adds up. I bought BBCSO Core two years ago for what it would cost me for 13 months subscription at $36 per month. And it's mine to use until kingdom come - and doesn't require an Internet connection to work (my Music PC is offline, and I'd prefer it stayed that way).
Because in all honesty the Arturia keyboard are still better feel to the touch. I switch from the s88 to a keylab essential mk3 88 (more than $400 cheaper) and I would never go back to the s88. Arturia is just a much superior keyboard maker than NI.
Thank you Guy. Love your videos but.... Please keep your freedom and good mood from 3-4 years ago. You gave me the fire to compose and dive into composing during pandemia. Too many "hem...." here today and the past year , i want my Guy back. . You have a business to rule I understand... ❤ Love! Come back! Thank you anyway for the hard work!😊 I love ypur sound
Don't sell your little melody short. In quick order you created some wonderful harmonies. Inspirational. And oh yes, this library sounds wonderful. However, since I'm retired and have extremely tight resources, I'll continue with my BBCSO library.
The intro price is £1k, the real price is £1500 I really don't understand how Spitfire put the tag on their products. It's ridiculously over priced. And why should I pay £1500 for another Strings library which is not much better than the others. I purchased all the Berlin series around £1k last Black Friday, I received all the Berlins (think 6 Libraries in total) with tons of Articulation. And I know this truth that Spitfire only releases a library which is not complete yet and instead of finishing, leaving it and goes to the next one. We can see this truth in HZ Strings or BBC SO. IMO Sine is damn lot better than Spitfire player, the Mic Merging function in Sine is completely in a different league. I love Spitfire but seems they've got so greedy in recent years.
Ironically, Spitfire shouldn't have collaborated with a third-party brand to make a next-generation flagship library. Big names such as "Abbey Road" overshadow the prioritizing of utility and performance. A "generic" library that could handle complex compositions would speak for itself. AROSS is constrained not only by marketing, but by the unsophisticated music tastes of Spitfire themselves.
This library in no way sounds real to me. It's very heavy and thick... and honestly it sounds like a Korg or Roland workstation string sound from 15 years ago.
It really wouldn't. I have both and these libraries are a joy to play and listen to. The legatos really are amazing as is the amazing controls over the vibratos.
A Spitfire "review" on Guy's channel = definitely not a paid advert, and not remotely biased. This library sounds like any high end hardware synth string patch and does not live up to the usual Spitfire standard. Compared to Appassionata or BBC Pro this is lame and not worth the ludicrous price tag.
I now all 3 Appassionata for the tighter more intimate sound great writing tool , also Like the BBC they all sound different , but for the this new ARO string has the edge over BBC with. bigger richer sound (more John Barry) and its so playable
