  • Oakley Brook Dam - Marrinup, Western Australia
This is an amazing spot for a small hike, swim and explore. You could bring a few mates or the whole family. The spots down to the water are small but there are plenty of open spaces close by to have a picnic or a few drinks. Just make sure you take your rubbish with you so we can continue to enjoy these lovely places!
It was built in the late 1930's after the Western Australian Government Railways (WAGR) sought an alternative fresh water supply for the steam engines passing through the Pinjarra train station. The original source (a tidal lock system in the Murray River) was too salty.
The dam is now used for recreational purposes with the Department of Environment and Conservation maintaining walk trails, picnic area and public conveniences.

Woah, I've been to Marrinup Falls (very temperamental; only flows well after significant rains late in the season) but had no idea about the dam!

I stumbled upon it on a google maps search for cool spots and just headed out there after doing a bit of google research.
Can't wait to go check it out in the wet and see the falls flowing!
Would absolutely love to come out on a trip with you one day if that's something you would be open to!

You say you have only been to the falls, is there a trail that comes up to it from somewhere?
There is a parking lot that's quite accessible up the top by the dam!
