I love how the wind picks up just as the aria starts, as if the elements feel her fury. Whenever I hear anybody else sing this I compare them to her. Sadly, few ever meet her level of excellence.
@@thaliarice3891 cristina's acting is in her voice, as it should be. although, consider that it's not her fault for standing still, but rather the director's. regardless though, she may not be an actor, but her singing is far far above all the others. edda moser comes close and maybe edita gruberova in third place. but her diction is perfectly clear, her voice is huge and far more resonant than the others (apart from maybe moser who is darker), and she does it with little to no effort. when the second set of f6's comes, you don't even see her mouth change at all on the recording. she rocked that note without widening her mouth. it's unbelievable. diana may be a great actor, but after signing this role too much, she kinda lost her voice :/ she's not as good as she used to be. and here she's slightly pitchy.
+cordarius whitaker No operatic profile here, I guess he's a random fan from that competition.. she heard the girl sing it first maybe that's why he thought she'd done it better. poor. I'm also from the Philippines so not being racist here (cause people misinterpret me sometimes as racist). marami kang mapupunang kamalian sa pagkanta niya dong kaya wit siya maihahambing dito. tsaka she's struggling with the song
Jade Benigno lol nope she didn't nail it. It was far from how this amazing Aria should be sang; I'm pretty sure you have none to little knowledge about classical music or music in general. Mica's rendition was good, just good. Perhap's she'll improve ot dramatically as she train more and seek help. Edda Moser and Diana Damrau are amazing in their interpretation and singing of this Aria. Cristina Deotokom, Lucia Popp, Sumi Jo, also gave a great rendition of this Aria. Mica is so far from any of these coloratura sopranos.
I love Diana because she not only sings, she interprets the aria with the dramatic vein it demands. In the beginning you can see how she even used the casual wind blowing in the performance. And the look she gives at the end is literally awesome.
This was my first time watching this video and I honestly believed that they put a wind machine on her at that moment. I didn't realize until later that this was an outside event! It really added to the effect.
That melody is pure evil (in Mozartian standards). He was just so genius that created subtle variations in tone to represent all the evilness of die Königin in this melody, without losing the characteristic sound of his Art and of that epoch. Pure evil and genius combined! Damrau's a genius in performing the character that properly.
+ Greg Jonson Mozart has an enormous sense of Humor Greg... there is nothing Hateful in this aria's Music but indeed the words she speaks are full of hatred... I doubt that Mozart could actually write Hateful Music, he was the most Celestial Being in Music, unbelievably Gentle and Elegant (quite opposite to his "vulgar" and extreme humorist real life self. You know one of his most famous quotes is: "Ive been shitting through this crack so many years now and yet it hasnt been torn apart" :D :D :D)... Your comment is most correct... there is nothing Hateful in this Music at all and the singers who supposedly sing it with Hatred actually only do that with their facial expressions (or look hateful and ugly by definition like Damrau here) and not with their singing simply because it is impossible to sing this aria with Hatred
I've watched Mozart's Magic Flute about ten times at the opera house in Frankfurt and it's always been great because of the wonderful production. But I still remember the first time in the year 2000 when I saw Diana perform as the queen of the night. This was before she went to the USA. She was definitely the best queen of the night I've ever watched so the other ones could only fail. I always get goosebumps when I listen to her singing this aria.
Diana is my favorite soprano for this aria. You can tell she's had experience with the role, as she's not visibly straining to hit that high F. Granted it's not an easy note to reach, but her face looks so relaxed as the notes climb.
THE BEST queen of the night forever… even without makeup you can see how in-character she is. Her expressions are something you barely can find in any other singers
Diana sang this aria more accurately in other performances, by My God, she is the most dramatic! From her scarf to her spitting “RacheGoetter,” I thought I would hide from fear!!
This is what the Diva in The Fifth Element was TRYING to match. Diana has so much power in her voice it feels like she could flay the skin off your bones if you got too close to her.
It's so sad that many teens and kids my age don't appreciate these kinds of music, I just hope that this piece of legacy and art does not disappear so that the future generations can appreciate old music.
I am obsessed with her voice and any version of this aria, so it comes in my feed, l enjoy every version. Is so magical, so attracting and Diana Damrau’s voice so powerful and perfect that l could listen to it all day. An standing ovation 👏 👏 👏
When she portrays the majestic Königin, one will never ever see the woman named Diana Damrau. That is how TALENTED this good singer is, so schön meine Frau!
I had never enjoyed opera either. Then my car radio got stuck on a classical station. The first time I heard the song was during a violent thunderstorm. A metaphysical experience I hadn't dreamed of.
She, Edda Moser, Roberta Peters, Suzanne Elmark, and Erika Miklosa all do a wonderful job of acting the role as they sing it. That's what sets this specific video apart from the rest, that though it's in concert, she's still the Queen of the Night as she sings it.
Her voice is razor sharp precise - absolute stunning in her live performances. The recordings are great but do not capture the furry and energy Diana Damrau can create on stage. Thanks for uploading this video!
This piece would take everything out of you. Takes a tremendous amount of control. Diana is an amazing singer. I'm not an opera fan but it's interesting to hear how different each singer is.
The best performance for Der Holle Rache everrr!!! The best voice sang it everrr!!! I can't believe such a charming melody and arrangement filled with cruelty and vengeance!!!
This is outdoors, so a microphone is absolutely necessary. No voice is powerful enough to triumph over nature, why do you think we built concert halls?
It’s not really just the volume though . We classical singers are trained to really enunciate so being too close to the microphone is a nightmare as it picks up all of that and then some lol 😆
The best queen of the night, she looks demonic, full of hatred, evil, anger, disdain, which makes her perfect for this aria.
also Christina Deutekom was a great queen of the night
she has expressionless face but a great voice.
I love how the wind picks up just as the aria starts, as if the elements feel her fury. Whenever I hear anybody else sing this I compare them to her. Sadly, few ever meet her level of excellence.
paradoxically enough, in the real life she's one of the sweetest and friendliest persons on the planet Earth

she sings that like shes become the song itself .... she owned it
Her vocals are so clean and controlled and strong. She’s physically both no interring and beautiful. Perfect For this role.

She never drops character even in the most fiddly parts of the coloratura. A masterclass in operatic acting

Kayleigh27 yeah, same here
Kayleigh27 yeah I thought the same thing!
Same, but then she has to compensate for that wind, she obviously knows it's there.

gomongio how did he create these melodies, by pianos?
simhopp I guess so, like he came up with a melody and played out the tunes and made changes as he completed the song.
