    This is a classic . I don't know how many times I've watched this, and I'm sure I'm not alone. This and the RK vid are just brilliant.

    That was an insane day!! Can't wait to shred with you again, Ryan. It's always a pleasure and I learn a ton. I've got some ideas on some new combos to try this winter, and I"m looking forward to some more sessions. The edit came out sweet- nice work!

    Posted that to quickly. The tutorials are great but please keep the longer vids going. You're good at this Ryan and you need to keep us all inspired. I was stopped on a run in Scotland and asked if I had been leading from you. Such a compliment.

      Freerideftw
      Its a technique/tactic, and he shows he can revert to neutral at will. By rotating his hips open to the front of the board he gets deeper into his knee bend without hanging his mass outside the working edge. It also gives a ton of front foot control allowing him to initiate his edge quicker. You see it in a lot of people who spend a lot of time at warp speed. It becomes mandatory at times if you want to carve on harder snow, higher speeds and higher edge angles. Dude looked pretty balanced on the features. I think he is as he "should be" ... as long as he knows when its a detriment and flips the switch. He shows he can do that.

    • @Ethan-um7cp
      @Ethan-um7cp 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      put the playback speed to 0.25 and start watching at 2:46. He goes through the boxes with his hips parallel to the board, when he bends his knees they point perpendicular to his edge. He doesn't need or want high edge angle and his stance shows it. At 3:06 it cuts to a carving clip and his hips are rotated and opened toward the nose a little. Instead of perpendicular, his knee bend tucks under his body toward the nose. Switch flipped. Dudes got skills.

    The shot at 1:56 - 2:40 was sick! Not the biggest carves you've ever done or the most technical butters but you mixed them so perfectly into a long run I thought it was the most impressive part. Can't wait to see what you come up with this winter! Hope to see more of Giri too!

      +Andy Beckwith Thanks. Skiers on the mtn have come up to me and said 'I love your turns!' or something to that effect quite a few times.. and I always tell them that it's even cooler for me when skiers appreciate how I ride. Thanks and happy skiing.

    Best technique I've seen bar none. This is how all soft boot carvers should be aiming to ride. You're doing a great job for Donek Ryan. I just received my custom, wide waisted Inclne a couple of weeks ago. Can't wait to try it out in Japan in January. Keep the vids coming.

      Ryan Knapton 160 with a 30 cm waist. Looks pretty wide but I've got big feet and reckon I can handle it. So sick of booting out this season. Also widened up my stance heaps. I'll let you know how it turns out :)

    The long continuous shot starting at 1:56 is one of the best examples of buttering I've ever seen - smooth flow from one to the next and lots of hard carve turns that we all love mixed in. You're putting that new gimbal (I assume it's on a gimbal) to excellent use!

    Ryan, I just ordered Donek 160cm twin. Sean said its very similar to your spec but mine is little softer. I was wondering if you have any recommendation on bindings and boots? I am currently using 2014 Burton Malavita binding and 2014 Nike Kaiju Boots. I cant wait to receive this board and go out there and practice!
    Always thank you for your amazing videos!

    do ride throughout the day or do you mostly just ride in the morning? ... I ask cause in a lot of videos everything is still well groomed...

    • @RyanKnapton
      @RyanKnapton  8 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I ride as much as I can. Somedays its the entire day, most days are for the first half of the day. But for filming, it gets tougher when it gets busy and doesn't look as good with a bunch of people in the background... so if I do film anything, usually its of the first couple runs of the day.

    I'm 220 and 6,5" tall, and about to buy my first board..I am a close to decent snowboarder with a few years experience. I'm not really into freestyling, but just like to hit small jumps on the slopes and carve down te montain.
    What size and type board would you recommend?

    • @RyanKnapton
      @RyanKnapton  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Guido B in general I recommend you trying as many boards as you can and it'll help you to know certain aspects you do and don't like with each. In general I really prefer camber. Based on your height I'd assume you have large feet so I would try sticking to wide boards so your toes and heels don't dig into the snow when you carve. Try a bunch and try to make it to some demos and test numerous boards in a day if you can. Happy shredding!

    Did you get sponsored by Donek?

    • @RyanKnapton
      @RyanKnapton  8 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Sean (the owner) built me a board to the exact specs I was wanting.... and it took my own riding to the Next Level... so since then I've been promoting their brand and their custom manufacturing the best I can (cuz I truly believe it's a better way to buy a snowboard), and have even gotten to travel with em some and help out at demos... so we definitely have a great relationship. Do I get free boards, and to test out any boards I want... YUP! :D We don't have any contracts or anything so it's different than 'sponsors' I've had in the past. But yeah, I definitely want to do a lot more with them in the future! :D

      RobinHoodUKIP you could stay polite. To explain, i'm snowboarding since 1986, and teaching it since 1994. So i think i'm quite able to analyse riding style. It's not a big criticize, just a technical correction.Have you look at my videos ?
      And by the way, i have not see many videos of you snowboarding....
