    I like that there is no pov videos teaching this, as if our perspective tieing our own knot is through the eyes of someone standing in front of us.

      You need to have a rope in your hand. You can't learn how to make knot by watching. It all makes sense while practicing.

    • @marknadolinski5450
      @marknadolinski5450 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Have you ever driven a car? How did you get to your climbing gym? The technique is what matters, this video shows you exactly what you need to know. Just grab a rope rope and do it, that's the best way to learn.

    • @Milesco
      @Milesco ปีที่แล้ว +23

      @@marknadolinski5450 The problem is that the video switches points of view halfway through, at 0:42. Worse, in the process, it skips ahead a little bit as well.
      Either of these things would make it hard to follow the knot-tying process. Both of them together make it _especially_ difficult.
      If the video would just stick to one POV or the other and follow it through without any jump cuts, everything would be fine.

      I'm an idiot and I found that easy enough follow. I'm apprentice arbouist and the slowest to learn out my whole company 60.

    The ropes are durable and just like the ones at the gym. th-cam.com/users/postUgkxTFxba6lNeHrZaHoY_LXe6ZzmMfaipnwu Caution: I bought the 50 feet ropes and they are long and heavy so make sure you have the space (I do have the space). If I was to do it again I would probably get a shorter version as 50 feet (25 feet each side) is a little long.

    I just tied my first figure eight from watching this video- AND reading my John Long book diagram, AND watching a few other videos. I am a slow learner and I did get nice and frustrated but I FIGURED it out hahahahaha ok downvote me.

    • @TemplarX2
      @TemplarX2 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You should never make a figure 8 using this method. This is only used when you don't have a carabiner and the figure 8 is acting as a carabiner. There are way easier ways to make a figure 8 in less than 4 secs.

  • @dirkanderson1606
    @dirkanderson1606 5 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    This is how I was taught, some people use a bowline, but there seems to be some issues with that unless you really know what you are doing.
    Figure 8 seems to be straight forward practically fool proof, I would also add a back up knot for further piece of mind.
    New REI is very welcome here in San Luis Obispo, do it up right!

    • @AdventuresInReach
      @AdventuresInReach 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Totally agree that figure 8 is more foolproof than the bowline. The figure 8 does not require a safety knot, but there's nothing wrong with adding one.

    *Верно* завязанный проводник-"восьмёрка" _(фламандская петля)_ при нагружении не станет скрюченной инвалидкой, а после снятия нагрузки *легко* развяжется - потому что её хвостик получит петельку для вщёлкивания карабина.
    A properly tied guide-"eight" _(Flemish loop)_ will not become a twisted invalid when loaded, and after removing the load, it will easily untie - because its tail will receive a loop for snapping the carbine.

    So is the figure 8 follow through the same as a figure 8 on a bight, structurally? I know the applications are different as you need to tie the follow through if you are going around a fixed point

    Держишь в левой руке. Если короткий конец находится справа, делаешь два оборота против часовой стрелки или три - по часовой. Если слева, то наоборот.

      First Last,
      *ЖИЗНЕННО более важно* не то, каким способом завязать СТОПОРную восьмёрку (для ввязывания в петли беседки _стоя на обеих ногах_ *этот - наиболее техничен),*
      а то, *где* при ЛЮБОМ способе вязки спасИтельного проводника окажется *коренной* конец:
      - _под горлом петли_ в результате пробития ходового конца в _готовое очко_ - или
      - *на плечах её корпуса,* для чего ВЫходящий из СТОПОРа конец *следует принудительно сдвинуть вбок* -
      что и сделано на 0:35 секунде.
      Результаты обоих вариантов при *лавинной* затяжке узла после выпрямления и выборки эластичности верёвки *(наибольшая* нагрузка будет в *н.м.т.* _свободного_ полёта сорванца):
      в _душащем_ варианте коренной конец, *обжимая петлю,* выдавит ходовой, пройдя ВДВОЕ больший путь до упора в корпус;
      в *упорном* варианте особо ползти коренному концу некуда - кроме как заполняя пустоту, образующуюся при уменьшении диаметра растягивающейся верёвки.
      На *термоСТОЙКОЙ* верёвке это приведёт к тому, что "задушенную" петлю без пары(!) сваек хрен раздашь
      th-cam.com/video/PJkCaUUhqgs/w-d-xo.html&feature=emb_logo ,
      а на *капроновой* - оплётка и подлежащий слой могут *оплавиться до критичного сечения:* именно из-за этого и обрываются упёртые глупцы с древних "прусиков" сизалевых времён 20-го века - во сколько бы витков их ни скрутили.
      _Ни одна разрывная машина _*_этого_*_ не протестирует - только динамический стенд!_

    You HAVE TO add a stopper knot ! PLEASE !! Not because the 8 on a bight may slip but because it helps preventing to forget to finish it..
    It's been made mandatory in climbing competitions worldwide for that reason after anaysing an accident that "nearly" happened.
