This blew my mind when I found out last year, maybe two years ago? I'm 40, and only just found out a year or two ago that you won't naturally submerge in quicksand. I understand why media does it for dramatic effect, like fictional vent shafts people can crawl through, but it still blew my mind lol.

@@KleinesSteinnot even your neck as far as I understand. Displacement creates a balance that will not let you sink below waist/chest height. So as long as the tide isn't higher than your chin, you can live a few days while help searches for you, or until you figure out an escape.

Almost every half serious look at it basically states "you really have to want it to even come close to be harmed by it"
When the Simpsons is the most accurate media portrayal of something ("and now I'll just reach in with my face and pull my leg free..."), you know its danger is overhyped.

The real danger isn’t drowning, because you will float easier than water because mud is denser. The real danger is hypothermia because the mud can draw heat from your body quickly, even in tropical climates. The ground is alway cold, just like sleeping on the ground at night can cause hypothermia.

The snake is a red tail boa/common boa with a light color morph, at least it's in the right region this time. It's still not venoms just a constrictor, most movies will use these snakes as they are big, easy to find, and easy to handle. I don't find them scary they are really sweet as pets.

    • @joshuacain9845

Infection from a Nonvenomous snake bite is not even in the top 5 biggest problems you’d have while stuck shoulder deep in quicksand, dehydration would kill you way quicker, and if you choose to drink the quicksand water, those parasites would also kill you before an infected boa bite. So it’s not even worth worrying about

It is a Boa constrictor. Absoutely harmless. Maximally 4.5m. But dependent on subspecies & local form.
Pythons are old world snakes. Only Loxocemus bicolor occurs in the Neotropics.
And a Boa constrictor is live-bearing (ovo-viviparous; lecitotrophic viviparity). It bears living young surrounded by an egg sack & nourished via dodder.

@@TalentCaldwell It's still pretty shitty quality, since you could in post attempt to cgi over them, or simply make them off full cgi / practical effects, instead of pretending that Venomous snakes will strangle you to death and vice-versa.
The most infuriating are situations like in this example, in which, for some inexplicable, god-hated reason, the snake is a poisonous one THAT ALSO CONSTRICTS.

The snake in the movie is a boa constrictor, It's non-venomous and the way it kills is in the name, additionally unlike pythons boas give birth to live young which makes the fact the movie didn't use a bush master even more infuriating because bush master's are the only kind of new world pit vipers that lay eggs!

The snake was definitely just a good boy python actor. Probably safer to do that than use a real venomous snake, even if it was de-glanded.
