The problem with Talk TV coverage is they use topics like these to bash a competitor e.g. the BBC. This is a serious subject. The headline seems incorrect as it seems Edwards got the standard sentence given his crime and first time offender.
It is not standard at all for his case to have been heard in a magistrate court though. Also 1st time offence for many of the rioters in the summer as well but the instruction from government was to make an example and give swift justice.

Suspended sentences : When the crim reoffends ( as they usually do) the original sentence kicks in and is served CONCURRENTLY so no penalty at all.
