Happy Romanticshipping Day! What better day to post the continuation of Serena's Hoenn story? And yes, this takes place before her return in Pokemon Journeys.
For those who don't know, I believe that when Serena first began her Contests in Hoenn, she met Drew at her very first one. She inevitably lost to him in that Contest, but Drew saw potential in her and offered to travel with her through the Hoenn Contest season in order to help her hone her performances. Serena accepted his offer and traveled with him through Hoenn (as seen in part 1). Drew fell in love with her along the way and Serena liked him a lot but didn't give her feelings much of a chance to grow because she was still in love with Ash. Feeling confident once she qualified for the Grand Festival, she called Ash in Alola to tell him how she felt. However, once she did, she discovered the truth. Ash already had a girlfriend he was in love with. The news of course shocked Serena to the core and caused a massive depression that led to her losing the Hoenn Grand Festival. Only when she was at her lowest point did she realize that there was someone else out there for her. So she updated her look again, this time featuring the earrings he gave her.
