Actually, she does NOT. She has credits towards her doctorate. We both studied with the same professor--Dr. Everett McCorvey. Nonetheless, she is incredible and I love that woman.

Callie Day is actually a classically trained dramatic soprano. She just has a very well-developed chest voice. I noticed women who sing darker or fuller tend to automatically be misclassified as contraltos online. If you compare her to an actual contralto with a strong chest voice, you'd see there's a HUGE difference. Callie is a masterful singer and one of my favourite gospel musicians.

Callie is one of the most skilled singers I've ever seen in my life. Her vocal range without use of whistle register is incredible and she's clear and agile in every part or her voice.
That's just God! Holy Spirit. It's a special sound. A lot of people can sing, but they have no anointing. This woman has the anointing.

Just some information regarding Callie Day's performance: this was recorded a couple years ago in Gray Auditorium, Presser Hall. This building is a part of the Berea College campus. This specific recording was done during the African American Spiritual Festival! I was there when Callie did this, and it was so amazing!

Callie Day is simply blessed by God and so was Whitney Houston. You can examine her over and over.......there is no one else who has what God alone has given. Sadly, there was a distinct lack of head explosion in her reaction. I just don't see how that was possible to not get swept up, not only by Mrs. Day's vocal technique and range, but some of the melodic choices she made with those runs. Nothing but the feels for me, every time I hear it.
