- A Florida police officer has been stripped of his badge and gun after he handcuffed, fingerprinted and arrested a six-year-old for acting out in her first-grade class.
Dennis Turner, a 22-year veteran, was fired from the Orlando Police Department following an investigation into the arrest he made of the child. Previous reports stated Turner also arrested an eight-year-old in an unrelated incident. However, the police department clarified both children were six.

I was 8 years old when i was arrested for a school fight. I’ve been afraid of cops ever since. This little girls story breaks my heart. A black and a white cop arrested me. I got tears in my eyes from hers and my experience as I relive it.
I was five and acting up in the mall and my mom had a mall cop come over and act like he was about to arrest me (I didn't know the difference between a cop and mall security at that age) and I still remember that being terrifying. I'm white btw, can't imagine a black mom doing that. I can't imagine actually being arrested and taken. I'm sorry that happened to you.

I've seen this district attorney before I believe she was pulled over by some police officers before about the tint on her windows..... She made me proud to be a black man at the way she showed extreme patients with the police officers and her cool and calm professionalism.... And as soon as I saw her again.... I remembered her instantly....and she hadn't lost a step she was still cool calm and collective and every bit of professionalism exude from her! Not only is she beautiful but intelligent and well spoken! She is every bit that makes black so beautiful! Blessed is he that has her heart!

Yeah since they cant throw little black babies to gators like was common practice up until the early 20th century their trying to put them in prison.
You should read about what happened at Dozier's School For Boys, which was shutdown in 2008 for massive human rights violations in addition to having unmarked graves of little boys as young as 12 years of age from as far back as 1940. The Kids for Cash Scandal really revealed the flaws of the school-to-prison pipeline and the corrupt judge got 28 years in federal prison as well as $1.2M in kickbacks from private for-profit prisons

Are you suggesting this little girl doesn't deserve two parents. Are you suggesting there are no black fathers? You asked where is her mother as though she doesn't have a father? What kind of an assumption is that? How do you know the parents just didn't want to be on camera? How do you know if something tragic and outside their control did not befall them? Besides she didn't appear to be lacking for anything so if her grandmother is giving her the grandest of motherly love how in anyway does that have a bearing on this story. The grandmother already explained that the child is sleep deprived. Grown folks with self control would become reckless when operating on little sleep day after day... Oxygen is very vital in brain development and while she sleeps she is constantly being deprived of that much needed brain developing oxygen.
So that we are all clear, parenting matters no matter the excuse, but that is what childhood is...the exploration of character, morals, principles, and behaviors.
Children can not and shall not be expected to always behave perfectly. If so, what is the job of a parent.

Anyone who would put a six-year-old child in handcuffs because they’re throwing a temper tantrum should be investigated… He probably has a history of violence in his own personal family. He obviously believes temper tantrum‘s are a means for a rest. And is not able to make sound judgments. I’m glad he was fired because apparently 25 years on the police force has rendered him incompetent, senseless and inhumane.
I pray that little baby was not sexually assaulted. I'm sure the cop had a reason in his mind as to why he wanted to isolate that child. PARENTS NEED TO SUE! & Seek treatment for that little girl. What ever happened to taken the children to the principal's office or call their parents rather than criminalize them .
What's sad is that it really could have been worse in Florida in a different way. There is a law that would have allowed the children to be involuntarily committed to a mental institution. Under those circumstances there is the same trauma of police intervention, handcuffs, and the possibility of the parents to not have any access to their children for longer than this case. And no apology or admission of error by the adults involved. Look into the Baker act. Never consent to allow your grade school child to be taken into custody by law enforcement.
That poor child will never forget this trauma. That lousy cop just wants to sit at the master’s table and it backfired on him.
It hurts to know that baby will be hurting from that situation for a long time. I hope she’s able to forget

When I was their age and got into ANY KIND of trouble, my parents were notified. When my kids were their age and if they got into ANY KIND of trouble, I was notified. So, why were these 6yr olds handcuffed, arrested, hauled off to jail, fingerprinted, had their mugshots taken & charged w/battery before notifying the parents or guardian? This is one of the craziest situations I ever heard of.
