A couple of notes- Spennymoor Towns goal against Chorley came a week before Stockport’s title win against Nuneaton Borough (didnt get it across well enough in the video) Wrexham’s 5-3 loss on the opening day was to MK Dons, not Swindon Town. Enjoy! 🎉
I’m a County fan and it’s good to have a relatively new rivalry between a club that have been in a similar situation, in which both have great support. I do fear that Wrexham may become more tourist-heavy due to the big names of the American ownership, but I hope the rivalry lasts for a long time! They’re certainly not tinpot like Salford City, and the fans are nice to have some banter with, unlike some at Birmingham City this season! I can’t wait for the next game against them in November!
@@Paul-eb4jp Exactly! Like in all of football a rivalry should be healthy- but sometimes it’s taken too far. I think both clubs should have a great deal of respect for one another. 🤝⚽️
I think that’s true from both sides. If there is a rivalry, it’s more of a healthy one than anything. I’ll always be pleased if Stockport do well, as long as Wrexham match it the same season or the next 😂
as a Wrexham fan, it all started for me when we were in the national league and head-to-head with Fleetwood for the title. Both, us and Fleetwood were on a winning streak and we were head-to-head at the top. Stockport at the time were struggling at the bottom. We went away to Stockport expecting an easy win. We lost 1-0 and our form dipped after that match. We ended up on 98 points and didn't get promoted. I'll always think the dip in form was because of that match and why we didn't get promoted.
As a Wrexham fan I don't consider Stockport a rival at all. Just so happens we've competed with them for promotion a few times recently. Don't think of them as any more of a rival than Notts County who we went head to head with in 22/23
Enjoying it so far but worth noting the Glen Taylor goal for Spennymoor against Chorley happened the week before we beat Nuneaton. The reason it was so impactful was because it meant we went back top with a win over Curzon Ashton, and the Nuneaton game was as close to a guaranteed win as you could get. Chorley also won on the last day of that season. It's not a big thing but I think it's important.
Stockport lad here. It's entirely manufactured by league status and jostling for the title/position. Nothing more deep seated than that, not on our end anyway. The documentary also wanted a villain/rivalry, and they've tried to insinuate that we fall into that category. It's not really stuck and is void of substance because we dont see them in that way, and on their end we're not Chester 😂
Like many Wrexham fans have stated. I am a Stockport fan and I don't see a real rivalry. We have digs here and there because we have both been on the rise at the same time. We have no historic hatred and both clubs deserve the success as we've both faced financial difficulty and many fans stuck by the clubs through everything. I think now in League One there's so many decent teams it's not just us vs them, it's us, them and about 6 other teams who could win the league / be promoted.
I feel like the other 2 rivalries that formed with Wrexham are notts county and Shrewsbury. Those are some quality matches to watch some times. Of course it’s a completely different for of rivalry with those two. Gotta respect the old Wrexham fans who stuck with the club long before Hollywood.
Honestly, the only issue i have with Wrexham is the constant love that the media have for them, would have thought they were the ones to win league 2 last year with the amount of coverage they got over us
Not rivals. Both clubs with previous bobbins owners. Enjoying the recent success. Done by engaging the fans and bringing community’s together. Come on County.
Only mistake in this video is that you said we lost 5-3 to Swindon on the opening day. It was MK Dons unfortunately. If i remember rightly, the Swindon game was 5-5
In a way it sort of is, but the difference is(correct me if I'm wrong) baseball kinda has promotion/relegation system, but it's only for the players and not the club itself.
@@TheHabsification correct I think the main difference is how corporate baseball is, clubs can fold or relocate on an owners whim. Minor league baseball definitely has a local community aspect but the promotion/ demotion of players can affect competition.
@@Mad_ox8 That's due to the Franchise model of major professional sports in the US, as opposed to the Club model of major professional sports. For example the MLB owns all the teams that play in the MLB, but you can be an owner of a MLB Franchise thus allowing you to buy into the league itself. Owning a Football Club does not allow you to buy into the Premier League, because of promotion/relegation. Funny thing is the National League is 1st rung of professional Football, but it's Non-League Football and sits at the 5th tier of the English pyramid, but that isn't even the lowest tier of the pyramid.
theres no rivalry whatsoever it was a promotion battle that got heated when we played no one was calling chorley our rivals when we battled them for promotion its just media ruining football not even in same country aha
I mean Wrexham fans don't pay out to fly planes over Stockport's ground or Wembley... We don't consider Stockport a rival anymore than any other club in the league... Stockport fans seem to consider us rivals and we seem to live in their heads rent free on the social media groups. We wish them all the luck in the future and keep on paying out for those planes, we are always looking up these days anyway 😂
I've worked at Stockport County as a steward. I was there when they beat Sutton 8-1 and they were singing "Who do you think you are? Wrexham?" who they'd recently beat 5-0😂
I’ve never thought there was much of a rivalry between the two clubs…I can remember first going in the snow in 1979, where a second division Wrexham beat us 6-2 and I’ve been to The Racecourse over 10 times since but I get the impression that Wrexham hate everyone to be honest…could be an inferiority complex about us being English though…this backfired in the 90’s when as usual they were singing “Argentina, Argentina” about the Argies knocking England out of the Wold Cup,to which County shut them up by chanting “There’s only one Simon Weston”

This is a really well done video as a Stockport fan, good to remember all of this! Definitely earned a subscription
Fantastic video from such a small channel, keep up the good work.

Just stumbled upon this video. You done a good job at summarising what has been going on!
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed
I'm a County fan and have a healthy respect for Wrexham, their fans stuck with them through the hard times well before the Hollywood stars came along.

but no they are not a rival. Our rivals are Chester and Tranmere with Shrewsbury coming close behind.
This is a great video. I hope that other clubs that have fallen from league 1 to non league in a short period can make the rise back up.
Hope so!
As a stockport fan, this is a rivalry purely based off competition and nowt more really
As a Wrexham fan I don't consider Stockport a rival at all. Just so happens we've competed with them for promotion a few times recently. Don't think of them as any more of a rival than Notts County who we went head to head with in 22/23
I am exactly the same. I call it a situational rivalry. Both clubs on the rise at the same time. Fighting for the same prize.
Me too……..just another game

Also Wrexham's opening day defeat last season was MK not Swindon Town
Did try and mention the Spennymoor game as a week before but maybe didn’t articulate well enough 👍

We replaced you with Notts County in the second season and then you came back for the third season 😂 I have nothing but respect for Stockport
As a stockport fan, thanks for mentioning us 👏🏻
Hope you enjoyed! 🙌🙌

I noted this in my pinned comment 👏🎥
Fan of Stags, both team have proven themselves to be amazing but i hope they stay in league one this season, while we get promoted
Both teams are miles behind the leaders.
From the US but find non-league so fascinating, sort of reminds me of minor league baseball

It's called banter.
That's just a bit of fun.
It was funny, that was all.
To be fare, I think the plane only came about because someone rang our ticket office 🙂
@@neildeakin4454 for a cup competition that they lost in the final 🤣

That Sutton game might be one of the best examples of self sabotage out there.
@TheInswingerFootball Loved that when I was there. It was 8-0 though. We wouldn't conceed
8-0 mate 😉
