9 minutes in and it's already a thousand times more informative than the dozens of other (surely well meant, I did notice!!) videos I watched put together!! Wow! Thanks!
I'm glad I found your encouraging videos. I'm one of those "older people" who are aspiring to become a flight attendant. After several different jobs, most recent one being a Bed and Breakfast owner/innkeeper in Vermont, I am selling the house, moving to a whole different part of the country (AZ), to a new phase of my life (with my partner of 24 years), and I just sent in my online application to an airline, at the age 52! Just got more excited listening to you.
My son has a FTF in a few weeks with a major carrier. I’ve been watching many of your videos and passing them on to him. I’ve grown quite fond of you in the process, and just had to sub to continue “our” relationship! Thanks for taking the time to help others, you are a wonderful person!
You have the knack! I love all of your videos! At 50 years old, I'm leaving the classroom after 28 years and making a career change! I'm excited and up to the challenge- will keep you posted! Thanks Steven! You rock!!!
I LOVED this video...although i already did my video interview last Saturday (8/31)..everything you have said i was right on the money with..along with my contagious smile. So i feel CONFIDENT i got this !! Thank you..ill keep watching your videos and keep you posted !
Hello Steven, I just saw your video. I have seen several interview tips and you are right, there are so many video tips for the ladies, and not many for the men. at to come across your video. I completed my video interview with Delta today and I feel much better over my responses after watching your video. Thanks for doing this!
This is only the second of your videos that I've watched so far. Thank you for the amount of attention to detail that you give.certain items are said repetitively but you have given additional items that are very helpful. ... Now on to the next. 😃👍
Thank you, thank you, thank you for addressing the highlighted Rudolf The Reindeer nose. I’m currently cabin crew but I’ve got 0 makeup skills, as I applied to a main UK airline I’m trying to improve my makeup skills, because I feel it important as it gives a more professional outlook, so I’ve been watching a lot of TH-cam and Instagram tutorial to educate myself, yet the majority are so over the top!!! It all about the contouring, then the highlighter, the the bronzing, ten thousand different product, you kind of get lost in all of that and end up just seeing the clownish makeup with that tip of the nose almost puncture you! Having said that: as you were once a makeup artist I think it would be interesting that you make a video teaching to do a natural everyday flight attendant makeup. Congratulations for your videos.
Thanks Steven your video was helpful. I had an interview with DL on Tuesday and got an invite to ATL the next day, I could not believe it! I will be heading to ATL in two weeks.
I'm so nervous had an interview and messed up twice on the reading out loud because I was so nervous. I hope this don't stop me. I did well afterward and was able to finish the script
Many years ago I applied to a number of airlines for an FA opportunity, and it went like this: 1. Write away for an application. 2. Submit it by mail (and they even found a way to charge for the process!). 3. Get invited to a local group interview, usually at a hotel. 4. Or get invited to a hq for a group interview (sometimes step 3 was skipped). 5. Selected from the group interview to continue. Now, even though some airlines may do the open group interview process on a schedule throughout the USA at times of high hiring, it is more like 1. Submit application electronically. 2. Do some sort of computer video interview. 3. Travel to a city for a group interview. 4. Selected from the group interview to continue. Can you comment about the big picture of the process you went through?
mrtodd3620, well, the process you described actually looked a lot like the process I went through! I applied online, got a n actual IQ test (really! But now it's just a questionnaire or assessment.) then traveled to the interview where I got my CJO.
Completed my VI (my second, btw) with a mainline carrier. I went on Glassdoor, wrote down potential questions and prepared my answers. Started VI and every question I had prepared for was on the VI, did I nail it? Nah...just the opposite. I bombed miserably. Ugh! How could I let that happen. I let my nerves get the best of me. 😩 This was my dream Airline too. I guess I’ll have to wait another six months.
Paula Cruz, each "bombed" chance is a lesson learned and a step forward. I'd suggest applying to other airlines, if you haven't already. Have courage and keep going. :)
Really wish they still did the “cattle calls”. It’s so much easier to do the interview in person than the video method. I’m fairly sure many FAs today, if they had to video interview nowadays, they might not have gotten in vs. the “cattle call” way of the past! I myself am having a VERY hard time trying to get back in. Really wish I never left...
If I ever decide to try to become a flight attendant, I know I'll be not only prepared but confident. This was SO helpful. And, of course, I'm always looking for an excuse to get my makeup done at Sax. 😊
The vi was the worst experience of my whole life. I got so nervous and kept on fucking up.... I wanted to cry when I finished it. You never know I could or could not get it but if i don’t then fuck it. I still feel like shit and it’s been 6 hours since I’ve done it
I completed a video interview Friday. I thought I had prepared pretty well but nerves got to me. I really hope I get through it. Thanks for great videos.
Hello, and thank you for this very informative packed video ! Much needed here as I'm also aspiring to be a Flight Attendant, (i'm MUCH older than you are !) Steven, sounds very overwhelming ALL the things that are needed, specially the electronics. uhm..
Hello Steven, As others have said, thank you for all your informative and encouraging videos! Your airline is lucky to have you. I have a f2f interview with UA in a few days, and I have a hair question. I am a 58 year old woman, and I have highlighted hair that is a combination of blonde and gray. Are there any female gray haired flight attendants? Or would you recommend coloring the gray completely for a more polished look? And if my hairstyle is a long bob, just above the shoulders, can I leave it loose as long as it is groomed? Thank you for your opinion... it is very much appreciated!
I dont necessarily think that anyone would have to color their hair to look polished. But a good cut can certainly help! Airlines used to make everyone put their hair up but hair that's above the shoulders shouldn't be a problem. I'd just keep it back away from your face during the interview.
Haha, smizing is a term for affluent flirting! Love it! Also yes, black can really wash lighter skin or lighter hair folks out. Going to a makeover counter is also a super great idea, especially since the camera does really require more coverage than what you would wear in public, but again be careful and natural. I have actually practiced my makeup and then taking short videos in different lighting til I was happy with it. Difficult passenger that always wants to stand up during takeoff/landing, ummm honey, nobody wants your lap dance so please kindly put yourself in your seat with seat belt for everyone's safety! :-)
So nice that you personally love natural hair, this however is not the opinion across the board. Our natural hair unfortunately is still not accepted as professional.
+Freedom Speaks that has to be changing. So many of the girls I work with natural hair. And I know I've met other flight attendants on different airlines that have natural hair. I certainly hope that bias against natural hair is on its way out!
Another great video ~! When I was hired by my airlines there was a walk-in then straight to (what you would call now) F2F However your information is so valuable ~ 😄😄😄
Hi Steven! I passed my video interview with my airline. Now they invited me to a phone interview. I was wondering if you did a phone interview when you applied to your airline. I'm just trying to figure out what to expect from this next interview. Great TH-cam channel by the way!
A phone interview is much like a video interview. You want to pay attention to the questions and how they are phrased...the in person asking the questions can't elaborate on or reinterpret questions for you...they can only repeat the question if you need them to. Listen carefully and speak clearly *with a smile in your voice the whole time*! Smile when you talk. It helps warm up your tone. I love phone interviews...weird, I know. I turn up my enthusiasm and try to have a great time being as positive and engaging as I can. Enjoy the process.
Thank you so much. Nerves of course. Question: I was planning to wear a black tailored suit with a plum tie ( it looks silk, its not). What do you think, if you like can take a pick of the tie for you.
I just love your videos, I just completed my video and received an e- mail that they enjoyed my video and they would like to invite me to complete the next stage in hiring process; an on,line assessment focused on customer service. I’m so nervous , I retired from The NYC Dept of Probation after 30 yrs ( I’m 55) my friends are telling me I’m to old for this, any advice on assessment.? Thank you,! 😊
I would take the assessment like I would an old fashioned Cosmo quiz...answer each question in an idealized way of how you'd really want to behave in each situation. I hope you've seen my video about being an older flight attendant...it's titled something like, So you want to be a flight attendant but you're over 40 and afraid.
For some reason I cant get past the assessment with Spirit but Ive gotten video interview with Delta and now phone with Frontier Airlines in the A.M.! I know they are in contract negotiations forever with no results but thought it was worth the shot!. Do you guys at Spirit do an Eye Test ?
Hi Steven:) My video interview's coming up. Would you recommend a red dress with beautiful small diamonds on the shoulder and my shoulder is showing a little but it's extremely conservative? Thank you.
Nothing of your shoulder should show. Your description doesn't sound terribly conservative. I would play it very safe and if you like the way the dress fits and looks maybe wear a blazer over it? When interviewing for this kind of job I would play Super conservative. Maybe even wearing something that hints suggestions of that airline's uniform.
onewordwoman, Well, you can see I'm quite familiar with sparkles in my hair. I think coloring your hair is a very slippery slope. Once you start it's almost impossible to stop. The maintenance of hair color alone is too much for me. Besides, I think silver can be quite chic. Rather than spending the money or the time on hair color I would just really get a fantastic haircut. If you're going to bring color, bring it with a nice crisp powerful lip.
Hello Steven, thanks for sharing this informative videos, I know ito will help me a lot when I start the app process. Not sure if you’ll have an insight on this question, but here it is, I was a flight attendant many moons ago😂 in your opinion, should I include that in my resume ? To be exact, I got hired in 1987 and quit in 1991 to migrate here and join my husband who was in the navy at that time. Will it help me at least to get my foot in the door if I include that in my resume or will that hurt me? Thank you so much
Hi there! I'd certainly include it in your resume. When in a face to face interview I would reference your time as a FA just enough to let them know that you're familiar with the lifestyle and it's requirements.
You know, I hadn't thought of that. Personally, if I could, I would stand. I speak more clearly and I have better posture when standing. This would be a great thing to practice before doing the VI....video yourself standing while speaking and saying the same thing while sitting.
@@flightattendantsteven I tend to put my hands behind my back when standing up but my posture sometimes suck lol. I have a video interview tonight so I'm watching your videos to prepare on somethings.
If you are comfortable speaking sitting down or standing I think the next important thing would be your background. Have it be as clean and clear as possible or if you dont have a clear space, try for a simple professional space like an office or something.
Howdy. No...I wouldn't. I'd really keep the language of the clothes I wore similar to that of the general industry. If you were applying to Neiman Marcus or Saks...I'd love the bow tie. But, I'd keep it classic for a flight attendant interview. That's just my opinion.
My own answer was just based on my experience dressing men as a professional stylist. Somebody is always going to have a different experience and opinion...thank goodness! I'm positive that you wouldn't be cut because if a bow tie, but when it comes to this kind of interview I try to play it on a traditional note. Wear a bowtie if you know you look amazing. I just gave my opinion.
Are you talking about the emergency exit row briefing? My airline has a card that we're actually supposed to read...so there's no mistakes or misunderstanding.
Hi Steven, How long before you heard back from your airline after your video interview? I did mine on Tuesday but with everything going on I’m not sure how long it’ll be?
I know you're anxious to hear back, but I wouldn't imagine that were hiring anytime soon. The money the airlines came with strings attached...the airline can't furlough anyone until the end of September. If things don't improve over the next month or two...and improve by a lot...I'm afraid that furloughs might actually happen. In that case it'll be a long time until we hire folks. So, sit tight and try to be patient. When they are ready, they'll contact you.
Hmm. Funny, I'd never write anything like that in a comment section. I might think it, but, I'd never write it and hit send. Thanks for the reminder for me to check myself before writing anything on a public platform. I'd hate to come across as a hater.
@@flightattendantsteven I am not a hater, I actually love your videos as you are genuine and sincere. I just thought it was funny thus the smiley face next to my comment. Ok, maybe 1 or 2 sizes too small, not 4 :-)
Ok so i stumble on your you tube and it caught my attention cause you are older fa i myself is older and trying to get in the industry im doing my video interview tomorrow and would like some pointer on what sort of questions will be involved and some good answers ..not interested in the dress part already got that captured just skip right to what. Type of questions i should be practicing on answering while in front of the mirror
Glass door was totally useless in my opinion it seems to that no present flight attendants are really helping with these questions everyone is just referring or redirecting us elsewhere like is it not prohibited to tell or what like i would appreciate you guys to just say thing what is a violation to your job or some thing like damn ...im getting real irrate with all these hundred videos and everyone is repeating the same crap#!#
First of all thank you so much for the super quick reply ❤️ they said usually people do it within 2 days but please take all the time you need and when I called them they said no there’s no time limit byw it’s with delta airlines
Cool! I would get it done soon. Their hiring windows aren't open long. Definitely do your research first, but try to enjoy the process...it will come across to those who watch the video.
I don't know of an airline in the US that doesn't allow a beard...a tasteful, classic and tailored beard. My airline allows a beard up to one and a half inches long.
@@flightattendantsteven bro I just got an email from the airline inviting me to do a live video interview.I'm exited and nervous, what do you recommend me? any advice, tip or something. Thanks

Howdy. No...I wouldn't. I'd really keep the language of the clothes I wore similar to that of the general industry. If you were applying to Neiman Marcus or Saks...I'd love the bow tie. But, I'd keep it classic for a flight attendant interview. That's just my opinion.
I agree with you. An applicant should give the message that he can be compliant and fit in, not that he will be a renegade.
Renegade! LOL! Only once you're off probation.
I wore a bowtie for both my video interview AND the F2F and received my CJO... with a mainline airline. You have to wear it, don't let it wear you.
Love Tyra banks 😅👏🏽
This was very helpful. Thx!!!
Hi can you pls help me with inflight briefing
We have test and i m not very confident how to do in short n simple way
Are you talking about the emergency exit row briefing? My airline has a card that we're actually supposed to read...so there's no mistakes or misunderstanding.
Hi Steven,
How long before you heard back from your airline after your video interview? I did mine on Tuesday but with everything going on I’m not sure how long it’ll be?
I know you're anxious to hear back, but I wouldn't imagine that were hiring anytime soon. The money the airlines came with strings attached...the airline can't furlough anyone until the end of September. If things don't improve over the next month or two...and improve by a lot...I'm afraid that furloughs might actually happen. In that case it'll be a long time until we hire folks. So, sit tight and try to be patient. When they are ready, they'll contact you.
It is funny that you talk about a shirt that fits....not too small and that shirt you're wearing looks to be about 4 sizes too small :-)
The Glassdoor website is great for interview questions. Good luck on your interview tomorrow!
I received a video interview a month ago but I’m too scared to do it is it to late to do it? Help please
Most video interviews have a limited timeline. Look at the email you probably received with the interview link.
Thank you so much you are the best. I’m sending love and respect ✌🏻❤️
I thought you had to be clean shaven🤔
I don't know of an airline in the US that doesn't allow a beard...a tasteful, classic and tailored beard. My airline allows a beard up to one and a half inches long.
Steven Pereira I thought frontier didn’t allow beards but that may have changed. When I heard it I thought it was unfair and ridiculous
I've been interviewed seeeeeveral time and so far nothing at all
Remember, each no is a step towards a yes! Learn as much as you can from each interview...it'll help when the time comes.
@@flightattendantsteven that is what I think. One day the "yes" will be here
@@flightattendantsteven bro I just got an email from the airline inviting me to do a live video interview.I'm exited and nervous, what do you recommend me? any advice, tip or something. Thanks
DADDY
Yes. I gave up with TUI once they emailed me saying it was a video interview ☠️ plus my speaker on my IPhones dead 🙈
Traumatic 😂 Freudian slip
I was thinking the same thing! 🤣
