I think the rug helped a lot; I noticed a huge difference immediately. I don't think it ever sounded bad with echo though. LOVED THE PURPLE.

Also you can get floor to ceiling curtains (online) and those help A LOT with echo. Especially thick ones like blackout or double lined curtains! hope this helps!
