    Here in Australia coco coir is more cheap and readily available than peat, I think it makes sense to use whatever is readily available in your part of the world, no point using all the resources and fuel and causing so much pollution to ship things around the globe for such an expensive $ cost.

    I find compressed coco coir is actually cheaper than peat moss once it expands out. Also prefer coco coir in our planting mix and containers because it provides more aeration than peat moss. I wasn’t familiar with feather mill but am going to try some.

      Thanks for sharing. You’ll love the benefits of the slow release nitrogen from the feather meal. However, the smell is not so great 😄

    Am I missing something?
    40% peat moss
    25% stupor soil
    10% vermiculite
    5% feathermill(?)
    Adds up to 80%...Also no links in the description.

    I haven't had a lot of luck seeding veggies in coco coir. Although the coco coir is supposed to be rinsed by the manufacturer to eliminate salts, I think there is still a significant residual in the medium. I prefer peat. Has anyone else had issues with starting seeds in coco coir?

      We’ve heard the same thing

      I have used coir for a few years now and at first I loved it but in that last 2 years I have noticed a lot of fungus gnats and my seeds not starting as well so I'm not sure if they are not rinsing as well as they used to or what, but last year I went back to peat though in California they are starting to limit what peat we can get for some reason. Finding the best seed starting mix is a struggle and I like to make my own because I sell vegetable starts in the spring so I need a lot. This looks like a great mix here!

    Hi Jill~We're up in NY and not sure if soil blocking would work for us because our seed starting period is about 8+ weeks indoors. No greenhouses yet. Not sure if the blocks will maintain their structure by the end? Thought I'd ask the Soil-Blocking-Queen 😍

    • @WhisperingWillowFarm
      @WhisperingWillowFarm  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Great question. If you have that long a period, you’ll need several size soil blockers. After the seedlings get so big, you’ll place them into a larger soil block to give them more nutrients. I typically do this with all my seedlings. I’ll have a video out shortly on this topic because I get this question often

    So the controversial part is the peat moss? Nate was driving an excavator a few days ago and now he is wearing a pinky shirt. How quickly times change. I'm just taking the piss, Nate. By the time you've tattooed the daisies on your neck, the world will have caught up.
