Every subsequent sentence describing the rig and how it is going to work made me smile more and more. Outstanding! Never seen another review like it. I've been mountain biking since the late 80"s starting off with rigid hardtails. Since then, I've owned hardtails with suspension forks and full suspension bikes. Been through a lot of grips over time. Like you, I prefer comfort and durability first. I prefer grips close to 30mm. I'm a trail rider with not a lot of huge decents, and I do ware gloves most of the time. My old hands aren't as forgiving as they used to be. Grips are a personal preference, but your tests were very informative to say the least. Thanks for your outstanding effort!!

    Cool video! I rocked the RaceFace ones on my last bike and they were ok. Pretty durable! But I agree with the test. They are kind of thin so I felt a lot of the vibrations. Grip was ok, but I once forgot my gloves and it was raining and it was scary lol I also realized that I keep my hands pretty far out on the end of the grips so the second clamp was quite annoying… I now have the Ergon GD1 pros and they feel much better for me. A lot more comfortable and considerably more grip. Mostly ride in dry conditions and usually with gloves, but they were fine without the gloves and in the wet as well… I like the Ergons a lot! And they match my bike color in Moss almost perfectly so that’s cool as well ^^

  • @Waremonger
    @Waremonger 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Great video and very thorough, as usual. Personally I wouldn't use grips that do not have a plastic or alloy end cap. I've clipped too many trees with the end of the bar and with the full rubber grips I've almost had some crashes. The grips with plastic / alloy end caps will just deflect off of the tree and are also more durable. I was using Odi Ruffian Lock-on Grips and loved them but they do wear out somewhat quick so I would have to turn them about a quarter turn every couple of months as the grip would start wearing down smooth and causing hand pain because you're basically grabbing plastic at that point. I just bought a pair of RevGrips Pro Series RG5 Grips and put them on my bike last week. I've only got 2 rides on them and they were a bit of a PITA to put on but I do love the grip itself. The claims of vibration dampening may be dubious as the trails I ride have a lot of long rock gardens and your hands take quite a beating and I didn't really notice a difference with the RevGrips. I don't get arm pump though so maybe in my specific situation they can't help. I'm curious to see how long the grips last before wearing smooth.

    love the testing. i do feel you actually rushed at the end where you flash the grades. i would like to see the entire grade chart to compare as well as all the numbers. i’m also hoping you can do the evo factory and oneup thin, regular grips. did u test the glove pull with the grips turned towards the grippier side rather than just the top? i feel some grips have more textures at certain angles below the grip not on top.

    Hmmm just anecdotally I find the PNW grips to be buzzy. Vibrations to hands is a measure of both frequency and amplitude and I'm having trouble interpreting the single Z axis number there. Either way I think a foam or silicone grip might be best in this category if it's important to you. Wolftooth fatpaws, ESI grips, and Ergon GXR all have superior vibration dampening to any lock-on.

    • @SimplyMountainBiking
      @SimplyMountainBiking  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you for sharing your experience. I considered measuring vibration across all axis, but didn't have a good way to isolate X & Y axis...thus narrowing in on the Z axis to be representative of how vibration is dampened generally. -Jay
