Hands down, the best Social Link in the series. It draws upon the raw themes of Persona 3 by presenting us with a character whose whole existence in game is about accepting one's own death. Definitely the biggest surprise was that we're talking to Akinari's spirit the whole time. That he lingered there not sure whether or not he was ready to go. Such a beautiful bow to go on top was meeting his mother and being able to show the notebook that Akinari gives the protagonist and giving her relief of hew worries of never being able to finish let alone hear it.

A nice thought. But sadly, it's likely to not be true. Makoto is dead, but he hasn't left, per say. His soul is the seal that keeps Nyx at bay. So long as he is, his soul can't move on.
In the end, all that really matters is how you left your mark. The idea that Akinari, who struggles with breathing just walking around, still spent time playing with Maiko so she wouldn't be alone. Even lost in his misery, living without hope, he still tried to do good for others. Akinari and Makoto share a lot of parallels...
