As the 2nd Life Bikes guy would say, that bike is “proper crusty.” I’m glad you’re bringing it back to life.
Nice video format. Don’t overthink it. No need for background music or other silly fillers. This works.
I agree with you on the format. I love that he doesn't have too many cuts. The pacing is great.
really liking the longer videos to see everything you're doing altogether + explanations super beneficial for a noob like me :-)
Sick video, love the casual style.
Love your chill filming style. It’s fun that it’s not rushed or scripted.
Good stuff laid back commentary and good camera angles. At first I was missing some background music, but after awhile I started to enjoy the simplicity without music. Keep doing your thing will be back for more 👍👍
Awesome stuff man!!
I definitely like this kind 😎🤘🏻
Clicked on to see a tear down, …decided to stay once you brought out the chain tool. Nice! 👍😎😁
Love it
good shit. keep going.
"It's got like 4 cracks" - that's not good - "I'm just gonna run it" - HELL YEAH!
looking forward to seeing part 2
Those cranks have an unique bcd. It seems similar to the TA Specialtite with a 50.8 bcd. Very cool you should use them. Also, you should tell use about the vintage parts. Thanks for the video.
I'm personally here to see old/trash bikes brought back to life. Your IG Reels on the chrome finished ATB you built up for your cousin(?) were great. But this challenge is unique! Lots of people on the internet are already upgrading vintage bikes. I want to see more content on how to make real rat bikes for people to actually ride, not more gravel conversions. But whatever you decide to do, good luck! I'm rooting for ya.
I appreciate the support! I think you'll really like the next project...
Really cool seeing this. I used to get beers at road 34 on dollar beer night and recently got back into bikes and especially retro mountain bikes. Fort Collins is a dope town. I miss the abundance of parts from the co op. Stoked on the whole bike build off!
Never heard of you before this video, nice and chilled out which is refreshing
Glad you enjoyed!
I watched the video with pleasure... greetings from Serbia
Amazing stem.
I ❤️ cheap bikes!!!
I really like your video style! I think it shows all the ups and downs really well. A super fast way to get stuck crankcaps off is to go with a slim drill all the way around. It leaves much cleaner threads and you don’t have to deal with a hot crank arm :)
Crusty af! I love Dustin Klein! Just popped on suggested videos so I’m gonna subscribe. Sweet video!
Very relaxing to watch.
Like the format on how u do ur video's personally i like the uncut versions where u see "crusty threads, bearings etc, being ur first video on youtube, I'd say it was a good watch nice intorduction to urself aswell. Keep at it....If u enjoy it continue even in the low times when you think a video doesnt do so good etc keep the dream alive
Finally a TH-cam channel your Instagram inspired me to build a gt timberline comuter.
Really enjoying the more raw style of the videos where you are just talking through your thoughts.
Great first long video really. No complaints. 👍👍
I use a coin on the caps, works fine. Nice content, keep on 💪
I may 100% throw my hat in and accept this challenge 😎 great video great start 👍
I really like the multiple angles. Too many people just put the camera in one place and go. I recommend that you do a little more talking about the actual build, and some of the skills needed for tearing down the bike. I’m liking your description of the front double U brake, that hammer on the quill stem, your three step bearing cleaning and the grease packing method. That’s really good stuff.
A tip a picked up from the Bike Farmer, polish the frame with Pledge or any other furniture polish on sale. Plus the waxy coating keeps the WD-40 in place.
Hey Max, welcome to youtube. Thanks for the video. I am already following you on insta, glad that you're doing videos on youtube now
Hey I love this. I am a bike mechanic at energy conservatory in Florida. There is so many bikes that I work on and want to make a video about. You inspire me to make a video because you show how I would act if I were to go about it lol much appreciation for your effort and content!
Especially for your first video, you're doing great!
Well done homie! Great video. Sick bike. Love that stem. 👍👍
Amazing. Keep it up! Ride safe!
I like the style. Keep up the good work
Love it ❤ awesome bike and video, well done! Looking forward to part 2. Greetings from the Netherlands
It'll be out this weekend! Thank you!
I really enjoyed this. Such a breath of fresh air.
I've been waiting for you to do a YT vid ever since i found ur insta
Bro. Your 1st video and you already have that many views? Congrats
Nice one. Looking forward to the rest of it.
Here to learn stuff as always dabbled in bikes but don't really know anything, even part names. Keep em coming mate, style and info is perfect.
Im in about 2 mins.. and you have said "um" once. Your pretty good at TH-cam already..
Great work on the first vid. Looking forward to your future content. Keep it up!
Thank you!
Awesome first video. I like the basic no frills walk through. Thank you
They also put double mount u brakes on the back of some 90s mountain bikes. I have a 92’ GT Avalanche that has a set on the back and they work pretty well
Gt was the only big brand to really do it other than the under chainstay mounted ones, the double u brake mount really caught my eye on this one
@@mull3tmechanic Huh, I didn’t know that. I wonder if they did it because of the triple triangle or something. I also have a late 80s Fisher Hookooekoo with the below the chainstay brakes like you’re talking about. Interesting technology. I recently replaced the brake pads on the GT and just used some V-Brake pads with some washers on either side of the caliper arms. I kept the original pads because I though they were cool and unique.
I'm 4:45 in and digging it. Keep making videos my dude!
That is awesome... please do another one this summer when I'm home from college so I can make my own video and bike
Loved the video dude! Cool you’re from Madison, and the bike was from Budget! I used to work there and now live in Colorado too. Cheers to Road 34, BBC, and cheap bike builds!
One thing I really like while watching build videos is when they do voice overs, like Gary’s projects. I think it allows you to talk through the process but a little cleaner.
Keep up the great work man!
You should do a Sing-Ray Build, that'd be cool!
Great video. I agree with reallyheavybeef (lol?) that the casual style and your easy manner in front of the camera is great. You seem very natural and you are very easy to follow.
Thank you 🖤
All the best with the channel....will subscribe....and look forward to the build off..steve Uk
Awesome video buddy. You knocked it out the park. My Buddy Robbie and I will be doing some builds as well soon. We're a bunch of old bikesmiths and some good stuff to come. Well done man. 🎉
Love your Shirt man!
Keep them coming. Very inspiring
Wait a really hot minute! Is there a "budget bicycle center" sticker on there? thats so fitting!
That's a sick frame. Hard to build a not very cool bike out if that. Good luck with the channel man!
Beautiful!!
Nice new channel, I'm looking forward to seeing where you take it. The cheap bike build contest is a great way to build enthusiasm around this rebuild/re-use movement (and a lot of small worthwhile youtube bike channels), kudos to you for starting it. I'm going to to resurrect something myself soon...kind of miss my Ross Apollo five speed. Might come up from Longmont to check out the shop sometime.
Hell yeah man! Come check out the shop any time!
@@mull3tmechanic cool I’ll let you know when I do!
been on this since the start.. have a build coming but not sure about videos.
I'll be doing the same thing as you just stringing together clips... going recon mission to check about a BB removal I'm having a second hand fight.
my 2005 TREK had a Plan B recently as well
Good stuff man!
Dig it
Love it man!
Liked the style! New follower, I just got into bikes and came across your IG looking to learn a bit more about parts and anything in general
Keep it up!
Good start. Audio tip (I am a sound recordist) just wear the mig the whole time for the best clean audio. When you hold in your hand, the signal is to hot & distorts. It’s a pet hate of mine from content creators. Louder audio isn’t always better. You want a clean consistent level. Loving your content, your style will develop itself, don’t force it, just be natural. 🤘🏼
Thanks for the tip! I realized it was starting to peak when I was editing. It's all a learning process.
Avoiding getting into the red will have you in the right zone
I'm building a BMX lowrider show bike, I got 3 sprocket freewheel and 3 speed in front. I'm building a blue and white Flatlander BMX at the same time. It costs me about the same to build as to get something from a bike shop but mine bikes have better parts and they are much prettier. I haven't built one in ten years but I'll be at car or bike shows in Farmington, Aztec, and probably Cortez and Durango. I can't do the cheap bike build yet when I have 2 others going.
Following🎉
I would definitely keep the rusted patina look ... and I agree to pack the grease
Concerning crank set. Other than no extractor/dust cap threads, is there any thing else wrong with cranks (other than being dented/scratched by hammering)? They look like 50.4 BCD cranks. Are they riveted, or bolted? Thanks
Bike! :-)
Are you buds with any of the fellas over at Brave New Wheel? Love the challenge, btw. Let’s grow the community!
Yeah absolutely! Great dudes.
Those darn bottom brackets
had the Dia compe AD990 on my bmx ealry 2000's :)
Did you get this bike at dream bikes in Milwaukee? They have a great basement sale in December. I scored a 1991 GT Timberline and 1988 Trek 850 for 80 bucks. One to fix for keeps and one to sell
what sort of grease do you use for the headset?
Love this kind of this videos. minimal voice more on work.
Hello from New zealand! My only comment would be just to remember not everyone is as experienced with bikes as you are so don't zoom through all the work you're doing without any explanation!? Cheers
I'm planning to do a series of specific matinence and setup walkthroughs to help people learn, that'll come in time though!
Is that short from Road 34 in FC?
lol - if i just waited a minute, I would have heard about the bike theft issue.. I'm out in Windsor and messing with some old bikes.
Yeah it is!
Part 2 for the full build?
At this rate mabye 3 parts
Why did you cut the grips off instead of using the air compresser with attachment that is on it?
they were insanely sticky, sometimes the blower doesn't work with those, so usualy I'll just cut em off
🇧🇷😎✌🏻
Rust breeds rust!
Clean the “patina” up.
Surface rust never hurt nobody haha
@@mull3tmechanic : I actually posted the comment before I finished the video.
Now that I understand where you’re going on this build…
Patina away 👍
are your tattoos real???
I’m not a fan of the language used. Can’t watch it with the kids or suggest it. With swears. Just how it is with me. Have fun and keeping it clean projects to a wider audience. 👍
Sorry it's not for you! It's tough for me to be not myself behind the camera so I made sure to label it not for kids
@@mull3tmechanic you can be yourself but still edit brother. Have fun with your build. Take notice on how the other channels keep it user friendly. 👍😉. Thanks for the reply.
Hate watch 😭. New core genres are popping up everyday.
