I met him one time at a bar in Seattle. He asked me if I ever saw the movie Goodfellas. I told him it was one of my favorite movies. Then he told me that he was Henry Hill. Awesome video, missed an interesting fact about his time in school though. According to History Buffs (as well as a few other documentaries) Hill was probably somewhere on spectrum, with ADHD and some mild Dyslexia. Seeing as Hill was in grade school in the 50's and neither of those were diagnosed yet, teachers wrote him off as a bad student which pushed him away from school even more. Interesting to think if the teachers treated him different he may have had an entirely different life.

Goodfellas has been one of my all time favorite movies since it came out. Now it's one of my daughter's favorite movies too. Henry Hill was nothing if not an interesting character.
I'll never forget the first time I realized what Hollywood actually is. The Golden Globes had Scorsese, DeNiro, and Liota give a presentation about Goodfellas. They said "this could not have been possible without the amazing life lived by Henry Hill. Stand up, Henry." and everyone there stood up and gave him a standing ovation. Yeah...thanks for murdering and robbing people for a living, scumbag. But to the actors, he's a hero, I guess. Edit: Although in fairness, when I was a kid and watched the movie for the first time, I gasped and felt sad for about 1.5 seconds when Pesci's character was killed. Then I realized "hey...I should be cheering! This guy was a demon walking the earth!". But then again, that's probably more to do with Joe Pesci's acting than anything. I was 19.
Henry was on the Howard Stern show and when he was very Drunk admitted that he killed 3 Guys on Paul Varios order. Henry seemed very sorry and sad about the murders,....but then he was pretty drunk too!
There has been one man who stood trial for the Lufthansa heist, and that was Vincent Asaro, I was back in 2015. He was found not guilty, he was the only person left alive from the heist and it was ridiculous that they even put on the first place. He was being held at MDC Brooklyn when I was sent there from MCC Manhattan, another Federal lock up. I had just played guilty to a string of bank robberies, and in the feds you got to get classified in either Brooklyn or Oklahoma. After that, then you find out where you're going for the rest of your bid. Then he was being held there because he was on trial. He was a captain in the Bannono family, and the prosecutor is the last he was involved in that heist. The real reason was to prosecutor most likely wanted his name in the papers, and that was a quick way to do it. Vinny was a good guy as far as I know him. Everybody was happy that he beat the charges. Although he was sent to prison for ordering and arson, but subsequently released because his health is deteriorating and covid-19 came. That was the most ridiculous trial ever. A total waste the taxpayers money.
If there's anything Hill's life teaches it's this: if you want to be an old mobster, be sure to be both smart and lucky (even 'Lucky' Luciano wasn't that lucky...).
Joe Pesci and the scene where he wants an explanation of how funny he is, to me marks the movie "Goodfella's". That was a great movie to watch when it came out, and still is.
Truth is : Henry Hill was only an associate . He was a nobody . I can think of a dozen gangsters to do a biography on : Carlo Gambino , Sammy the Bull Gravano , Roy DeMeo, Toddo Aurello , Frank De Cecco , Tommy Pitera , Michael Franzese , Nicodemo Scarfo , Tony Spilotro , Carmine Persico , Vincent "The Chin" Gigante , Phil Leonetti , Albert Anastasia. Henry Hill was a nobody. The guys I named were all heavy hitters.
@@MaxwellAerialPhotography not really . You ask any of the gangsters of that time , pretty much all of them thought he was pretty worthless. He was not a great earner like Michael Franzese or Sammy the Bull . He never possessed the intellect of a Frank De Cecco or Toddo Aurello . Julia d’Aunigny (1670 or 1673 -died 1707) - 17th century French opera singer who was known for her flamboyant lifestyle. Her father was a secretary to the master of the horse to King Louis XIV. She was a keen sword fighter, cross-dressed and tried to run away with a female lover after killing a man in a duel. She died at the age of 33.
Past American presidents, British prime ministers, monarchs and Roman emperors would be good as well.
There’s a docu miniseries of the Irish mob. It talks about Henry Hill and features him himself. Ends with Henry saying “I’ll outlive all these bastards” and followed by “Henry Hill: 1943-2012”.
As far back as I can remember I always wanted to be Simon Whistler
The Mafia really doesn't have a great retirement program
You’re the best dude, this is just what I needed !!
I don't think he would have been on the spectrum. He wouldnt have lasted so long in a life of crime.
@@silvervalleystudios2486 It wouldnt be hard for people with high functioning ASD to live a mostly normal life, it would just make some aspects harder, like for example, reading, or understanding numbers. Or if he had ADHD he just would have been more distractible.
Just because someone is on the spectrum doesnt mean they are incapable
@@seraph535 It's not so much about capability. I think the traits like fussy eating, the fidgeting, etc would have rubbed up the wiseguys the wrong way.
@@silvervalleystudios2486 Hard disagree. Technically everyone is on the spectrum, it doesn't put you at a disadvantage in the rest of the world to know where you fall on there. Hill was great with numbers but had poor social skills. I'd very much believe it.
@@silvervalleystudios2486 I'm gonna go get the papers get the papers.
If you paid you could hold your own and earn them money, none of the wiseguys will care.
Great content. Thanks Simon!
Now I wannna go and watch Goodfellas
Simon I think it's time we all get a video on your Biography ✌🔥
"As far back as I can remember, I always wanted to be a gangster
To me being a gangster was better than being the President of the United States"
Hey could you do one of these on Theodore Morel, Hilter's personal physician. Dude was weird.
Wow that hilter guy sure sounds a lot like someone else
I'm sure that Simon could make a trip to the corner shop the most interesting thing I ever heard.
Wow.. never expected this one 😱! Thanks for this one ❤
My sub feed has a lot of simon today and I'm not complaining
Please do one for Joseph Smith, the founder of LDS church/ Mormon denomination. A big fan of ur videos and content. Thank you for doing this.
Was waiting for this one!
Tommy DeSimone was a certifiable maniac. In the film, Tommy DeVito is played by Joe Pesci, who is 5'4" tall. DeSimone was 6'1" and about 200 pounds, and the real guy was so dangerous it made the other goodfellas nervous.
He once shot a man from across the street just to demonstrate his new gun to a friend~
Hill's life in witness protection was far more interesting.
great as always
The funny thing is that they changed Jimmy Burke's name in the movie to his actual name, Jimmy Conway. Burke was the name of his foster family.
Ray Liotta was definitely wrong for the part as Henry Hill in “Goodfellas”. Ray was too handsome.
Henry Hill is also the government name of a certain cartoon character we all know and love...
Knowing next to nothing about Goodfellas, this was an extremely interesting and informative video for me
You add some spice to the beard my man? well done Simon
Goodfellas has been one of my all time favorite movies since it came out. Now it's one of my daughter's favorite movies too. Henry Hill was nothing if not an interesting character.
You made my day with this
If haven't done one already; I would love to see a video on Benny Hill.
👍🏽
I'll never forget the first time I realized what Hollywood actually is.
The Golden Globes had Scorsese, DeNiro, and Liota give a presentation about Goodfellas. They said "this could not have been possible without the amazing life lived by Henry Hill. Stand up, Henry." and everyone there stood up and gave him a standing ovation. Yeah...thanks for murdering and robbing people for a living, scumbag. But to the actors, he's a hero, I guess.
Edit:
Although in fairness, when I was a kid and watched the movie for the first time, I gasped and felt sad for about 1.5 seconds when Pesci's character was killed. Then I realized "hey...I should be cheering! This guy was a demon walking the earth!". But then again, that's probably more to do with Joe Pesci's acting than anything. I was 19.
The way he says mafia makes me laughia.
awesome comment
The best scene in Goodfellas - Paul Sorvino slicing garlic with a razor in a prison cell, cooking homemade Italian food with his mafia crew.
I never liked the scene in Goodfellas where Jimmy scolds Henry over the drugs. Jimmy in real life was an absolute rager and loved coke
He was hilarious whenever he was on The Howard Stern Show
His drunkin laugh and claims of being sober were classic
As far back as I can remember, I always wanted to be a goodfella
Simon Whistler Godfather of TH-cam!
Thanks
I'm so used to mistakes on so many other TH-cam sites that when referencing 1979 with 1969 on the screen. A first. Great content as always..
Joe Pesci and the scene where he wants an explanation of how funny he is, to me marks the movie "Goodfella's". That was a great movie to watch when it came out, and still is.
well done video
You know what I need more than I do Simon ❤
Henry Hill either owned or worked at a restaurant in North Platte, Nebraska. He also got busted in North Platte for drugs a couple times.
Is he better than Harry Hill, though? There's only one way to find out....FIGHT!
He’s dead. I Suppose Harry could dig him up with that big finger of his
I met this guy in a bar, lucky to have quick drink with him and get his autograph.
Yup me to
Pleased turn the volume up on your videos..
i love your channel
At 15:10 you say "1979", but the year on screen is "1969".
With knowing that Hank is the diminutive name of Henry now all I got running through my head is, "I sell cocaine and cocaine accessories."

Henry Hill was only an associate because of his partially Irish heritage. He was more valuable to the mafia than many made men.
He was never as blood soaked like Tommy"Karate" Pitera or Roy DeMeo. Nor did he possess the cunning of a Vincent "The Chin" Gigante or a Carlo Gambino. Henry Hill was nothing.
@@freyasslain2203 of course they say that after he turned rat... They aren't about to shower the guy with complements!!!
Henry Hill may have been a middling gangster but he is notable for being one of the first major insiders to testify against others, leave the gangster life, give candid interviews about everything he saw, survive and die of natural causes.
Henry Hill was subject of one of the most popular films of all time regardless of his ranking in the mafia.
About time
When I was in my band Arrowhead, we went to Nebraska i believe, and ate at his restaurant. Nice guy, but after watching Goodfellas none of us wanted to complain about anything lol.
