In contrast with how they treated matilda as a character, Danny DeVito and Rhea Perlman treated Mara Wilson incredibly well as her mom was dying of cancer. DeVito even made sure her mom was shown a rough cut of what they had filmed before she had died

They didn't adopt Matilda-She's their biological child! Harry was just seeing her through the window that dads would see their kids through at the hospital

The crazy thing is that the actress who plays Ms. Trunchbull also played Aunt Marge in the Harry Potters. Even knowing it’s the same person, she is barely recognizable between the two roles.

When the Trunchbull is introduced in the book they explain she gets away with all this stuff BECAUSE it’s so extreme. Nobody believes the kids.

Matilda wasn't adopted. she's biological. She just got dressed before she left the birthing suite. lol

I totally get why you thought she was adopted. Like how could they treat their own flesh and blood that way right? But they did 😂

Hey Billy, I happen to work in libraries and have some answers for you. Why does no one question Matilda? It's part of our privacy policy, we don't ask for personal info unless needed. Our job is to help people navigate their information needs regardless of age or interest. When it comes to children we acknowledge their right for privacy and freedom to learn, independent from that of their parents. In fact, I have not seen or met the parents of over half the children I interact with.

We loved it because Matilda wins. We like to think that if we are kind and smart we can beat powerful cruelty. Neil Gaiman the author of Coraline was asked why he tells dark stories for kids. He said "Children know that dragons exist. They need to know dragons can be beaten."

As a kid I grew up in an abusive household so this movie was comforting to me because it made me believe life could get better, that there was a chance for me. I lived vicariously through Matilda. Unfortunately I didn't get out anywhere near as early as she did, but, things are better now.

I literally never realized her dad was mad because her book was titled Moby Dick and he took offense to the dick part. I always thought he just thought all books were bad lol.

Miss Honey is the reason I'm studying an Education Degree. She made it seem like such a chilled job.

Another big difference from the book: at the end of the book, Matilda actually does lose her abilities.

Why is it just now occurring to me that Danny Devito also did the voice over? That's crazy! I always thought about how nice and calm the voice over was and how loud and horrible her family was. That's hilarious.

Mara Wilson was actually really nervous about dancing on the table, so Danny Devito got the whole cast to dance behind the camera with her.

The cake scene: obviously the kid didn't actually eat all of it, but he still did have to eat a lot of it. In fact after they finally finished, he got sick to his stomach. I think what they basically did was have 4 to 5 different cakes, each with more cake missing, to make it look like he'd been eating it.

Miss Honeys house is very different from the book. The main difference being that there is literally nothing in there besides a small camping stove, and two wooden boxes. Matilda didn't decide to help her just to get justice for Miss Honeys father. She also did it because Miss Honey needed serious help.
