A big advantage spacex has is the number of engines they produce. Factory production is inherently more reliable. But, the frequency of production also means processes are continuous and refined at a faster rate than infrequent large engine production.

It helps a lot with development, because each engine is essentially disposable until it's actually relied upon for a mission. Pop media likes to make a big deal out of engine explosions, because they're dramatic, but it's fine for an engine to explode during testing when the engine isn't a precious one-off prototype hand-crafted by master fabricators for years.

I think the biggest advantage is reusability. You can examine engines after every flight.

I really didn't expect to see a private endeavour to develop a space programme in my lifetime. I'm blown away. If someone told me this is where we'd be 10 or 15 years ago I would have just laughed. Just incredible.

This "project" is all NASA product. All patents are from it, knowledge too.

    • @robertthomas5906
      @robertthomas5906 ปีที่แล้ว

@@voldemarvaglaots6690 Did you listen to the video? Because if you did you'd know that's not true. Nasa has nothing like these engines and the Russians even said so smugly because they didn't know about space X's engines. They thought the US would have to use broomsticks and laughed about it when they announced they were cutting the US off from their engines.
If you're going to give credit you need to give more credit to the Russians than NASA. That's where the knowledge started for these super engines. A great deal of research and testing went into what they have today. Nothing about it is from NASA.
Give credit where it's due. Space X has made some incredible progress that nobody else in the world has been able to make. Artemis illustrates this. It's more of a cash cow of corruption than a rocket. That's obvious. It is still using 1960s era rocket technology. You can't give NASA credit for someone else's achievements when NASA isn't even using it. If NASA were smart they'd incorporate space x's engines on something new and get away from the Artemis project. You could say it's a product of Space X. They'd be using Space X's knowledge.

    • @tthompson2538

Nice job, but there's some technical details wrong in there. You said the Merlin 1D has 1.7 million pounds of thrust, that is no where near correct. Maybe you meant the total thrust from all 9 of them on the Falcon 9. And the RS-25 Space Shuttle engine does not have 2 combustion chambers! That would be the engine you mentioned just before it, the RD-180. Keep up the good work though and maybe just check a few more facts.

You failed to keep up because right now the leading booster has flown 16 times and the next leading booster has 15 flights while SpaceX is saying that they now expect to be able to get 20 flights out of each booster.

We recently tested our new RD-171MV, a four-chamber engine with a thrust of 800 tons - at the moment, this is the most powerful rocket engine in existence. It was created for the new Soyuz-5 rocket.
We are also working on the methane engine RD-0169 for the Soyuz-7 - it will be an analogue of the F9, but of the middle class.
Work is also underway on the Krylo-SV light launch vehicle. It will be a rocket with a reusable first stage, which has a folding wing. After separation, she sits down like an airplane.
We have also been working on the Zeus nuclear tug for many years. So don't worry about us, we're fine =)

At least three old scripts clearly were unstapled , thrown in the air, and read as the pages were picked off the floor. At least there wasn't any Delta 5 used in this effort although telling us an RS25 engine has two combustion chamber is an interesting alternative fact. No wonder the Space Shuttle had problems. All pictures clearly show it flew with just 1 1/2 engines. How Humiliating!

Technology improves, so old ideas that were not truly feasible due to lack of materials that met the actual conditions found during use, can be retried with newer materials 40-50 years later.

is SpaceX wants to achieve greatness, then they need to show out with the best would you be the later models and knows probably the Raptors three would be a good place to start. They have more experience building Raptors and it has been streamlined. They can always throttle down a little bit and takeoff so they don’t screw up the pad again. I know his idea is that we won’t have much water on the moon or mars, but the moon is super easy to get off of they could use Chi thrusters of the shot to get off that and there’s much more water on Mars definitely enough to make a deluge system which would also think in the atmosphere! Plus spin prime cash should probably just be vented since it is 40 times more potent than CO2 as a greenhouse gas. Therefore warming the planet up and creating a thicker atmosphere CO2 is important if you want to get plants growing, which is needed for US! as well as an effective biome, including fungus at some point and carrion eaters herbivores and predators. al gore suggest cows…… good to eat, and them farts man!😱🤪😂😂💯

Q, why does Elon Musk not invest en develop Professor John Searl of SEG MAGNETICS Magnetic Generator instead of wasting money on fossil feul engins, they flew beyond comprehension in the 1960,s and generated vast kw's of energy back then but we still messing with fossil feul engines. Just imagine the space and weight one can save, with having a magnetic powered spacecraft, no feul, no combustion, negative ion powered, sine waves, no friction, no heat

Don't you know the Russians regret not getting more involved with Elon when he wanted to buy a Russian ICBM. Hahaha....karma.
