Hi I upgraded to the 10 core 2690 after watching your video. Get 3100 on Cinebench R20 and 7500 on Geekbench 5! Transcoding three sources of 4k clips (Mavic 2, Osmo Pocket and A6400) works perfect now. The reason I had to upgrade was that the computer almost totally froze when transcoding the exact same clips last week. All 6 cores and 12 threads maxed out 100%. Thanks a lot for your inspiration. I will upload a TH-cam of my upgrade soon. Looking forward to watch your upcoming videos!
Really? You need to know that the main reason why I make videos in the first place is because I want to help people to make good decision and upgrade their old Mac instead buying new ones. Yeah the 10 core is the sweet spot for video editing, I went 12 because I wanted to be 8k future-roof but right now I use 50% of CPU during rendering and exporting. The 4-6 core can handle 4k timeline but really struggle and the CPU upgrade is not that difficult ( I upgraded my iMac CPU as well and it was a lot harder). So happy you followed my idea, I'll wait to watch your upgrade video on the channel!
Hello, I have the same computer and I'm wondering which version of macOS I can upgrade to when we upgrade. Does it support a higher operating system than High Sierra, for example Big Sur, Monterey, Ventura? We have to use programmes such as Adobe photoshop, After Effects, do you think we can run 2023-2024 versions? Thanks.
C’è un qualcosa di familiare nell’accento? Totalmente usato, non ha senso prenderlo nuovo. Ed adesso lo sto usando con una bella e-gpu con Amd 5700 xt vai a vedere il video!
Actually torn between getting one of the trashcans or a new M1 imac. I could get like 128gb ram, in the old mac pro for the same price. They will last for many more years surely
@@ShadesOfTech I'm a musician, so my standard could be a little different so please concern. I haven't checked all of your videos but at least on this video, it has too less high and too much low, so it actually makes your pronunciation sounding a bit blunt. Furthermore, I'm not sure where it comes from but I feel like your voice sounds duplicated, maybe it comes from acoustic in the studio, using 2 microphones or possibly video editing tool problem. Lastly, if you are planning to get a microphone, pin mic or supercardioid one can be suitable for your production.
This is a good question. I didn't try it so I can't give you a 100% correct question but in theory it should work. If you already have the ssd, the adaptor is very cheap so you could try and report so everyone could know of your experience. What I am sure is that the connection will bottleneck the ssd so you won't be able to see advantages of the PCIe 4.0 but will reach only PCIe 2.0 speeds.
Has anyone upgraded the CPU and noticed an increase in idle temperature by about 7-8 degrees like i did ? is this normal ? Despite replacing the thermal paste with a better than factory one and cleaning the computer well ? In my case, going from the 6 core to the 12 core 2.5ghz using 120w instead of 130w power
I noticed an increase but you have to consider that you have a much higher tdp meaning that the Mac uses more energy meaning more heat. You should be far below 80 degree Celsius under full load
@@ShadesOfTech, Can i ask you what is the idle temperature of your Mac Pro and what is the room temperature. My 6core was about 40 degrees in summer in Cyprus where the room is about 31 degrees. 12 core fitted yesterday is about 48 degrees in the same conditions. It is the E5- 2696 v2. This CPU consumes 120w as opposed to the other E5's which consume 130w.
My room is at around 27 degree and the Mac Pro is around 58-60 degree but I am using a 4k display to the gpu and an egpu with a 5k display so I guess it will be lower without the egpu
Shades of Tech Thanks mate, you’ve been a help. Reason why im concerned is the seller put a security sticker about 1.5 cm x 1 cm on the CPU and i didnt take it off and so i thought that was the culprit 😆
As far as I can tell those temperatures are fine. The iMac I had before went up to 100c under load, with this one never exceed 80-85c it’s a great machine
usually the rendering and exporting times on FCPx are lower than premiere. FCPx has gpu acceleration so if you have a good gpu times drastically decrease. Premiere is still working on that
Ciao! Si chiama CITRO Contemporary Multicolour Ergonomic Office Task Chair della Project X, un brand inglese. Consegnano senza problemi anche in Italia ed è molto comoda. Ricorda un po’ la Herman Miller ma è molto più economica
I am just editing the egpu 5700xt video for older Mac. From my test it’s extremely important for gaming and FCPx video editing thanks to metal hardware acceleration. However the task you are asking for, especially blender a premiere are very cpu intensive so I would say that the first upgrade should be the 12 core cpu. I made the complete blender test with this maxed out configuration and with the egpu it took 50m less, it seemed a big improvement for me.
Yes you can but the 128 gb will run at lower speed so I don’t see any point in that unless you need that much ram but for my workflow O use 32 out of 64. About ssd you can actually go up to 4 Tb, I am planning a collaboration with an ssd manufacturer so I hopefully can bring that to you in the future
You can’t play on a Mac, unless it’s an iMac Pro or the latest Mac Pro because they don’t have good graphics. I don’t use my Mac Pro for gaming for that I have my ps4 pro soon ps5! :)
Shades of Tech can you show me which egpu case you bought? And where you got the thunderbolt 3 to thunderbolt 2 cable from and a link to 5700xt its not showing up on my google
Yeah nowadays the m1 represents a better value than this trash can. In terms of real world performance it’s comparable with this Mac Pro. The Mac studio just arrived.. 32c gpu it just obliterates this 12 core Mac Pro plus amd 5700xt egpu I had

@@ShadesOfTech I wonder if you could fit an m1 Mac mini motherboard inside of a 2013 mac pro enclosure?
It would be cool enough.. expensive but cool
@@ShadesOfTech l want to use a Mac Mini for ProTools should l hold out for the M2 Mac Mini?
Yes. Maybe you get m2 pro option
I think your video is legit however there are some sound issues. You should get a microphone and make sure that cut off lower than 60hz.

Warp stabilizer is slow af on my mac pro 2013 compared to my custom gaming pc
Yeah but it can’t run Mac OS. If you use some specific applications like FCPx you trade raw power for performance

Yes they are! I have also bought an amd 5700 xt with egpu, video on the way!
