    Love this pedal. I need to own it again! The blend also goes a long way with the distortion. This pedal keeps it simple. A lot of times, that’s all you need and all it takes.

    Just bought one as fed up of lagging my bass amp around. Great review and can't wait to gig with it. Straight to FOH for me!

      The ampeg is way more expensive but I'm not sure what else it has. The mxr looks like it has everything I'd need.

    I got mine at Hallandale also when they first came out.. really liked it.. loading out my spkr cab fell on it damaging the foot buttons.. I sold it a repair guy for a few bucks.. I should get another because I can’t really find my sound on my VTBass DI..

    There also seems to be some LPF and HPF going on when the color is engaged. Running the mid at max with the color engaged can help bring those mids back in but still give you a “colored” tone.

    • @herobass
      @herobass  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Agree. If you see the Frequency Analyzer some part of the high mid get cut. It’s not much but yeah I agree with you also the low and high and gets clean up a bit. Thanks for the comment!

    • @burningkarma
      @burningkarma 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@herobass Thanks for that Frequency Analysis in the video. I'd be curious to see one with how changing the different eq's would react with the color switch.

    • @herobass
      @herobass  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I didn’t go that way because the possibility were endless. Since the color button emphasizes the Lowend and the highend cutting some of the midrange, I try to focus on the one setting I believe people would go for initially. You bring a great point. I’ll keep that in mind for future pedal videos. Thanks again!

    Hi! I'm trying to choose between this mxr pedal and the ampeg DI. The thing is that I want to use monitor headphones on stage. With the Ampeg I could do this, but I dont know if I can plug headphones to this pedal. May be the parallel output? But then I fear I would only get sound on one side of the head phones, since its a mono output.

    • @herobass
      @herobass  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for the comment. Personally, I don’t have experience with the amped DI pedal.
      I’ve use the MXR BASS DI pedal in my board or recording not as an monitor, because most of the places I’ve played I have an in ear system. I have use this as my amp, going straight to the front of house, and it works great. And yes, if you try to get a signal from the parallel output I believe it will be a mono signal.
      When I originally got then MXR bass DI, I believe ampeg pedal was not around. I do like the option to practice in silence without disturbing the ones around me.
      Regarding the MXR, the best selling point for me was the tone versatility, the 2 switches for the EQ and Drive, the outputs and the price. If the ampeg checks all of those or any of your musical needs, then go for it.
      I really hope I shed some light on this topic. Thanks again and please if you haven’t subscribed to the channel for more content like this. Have a great one.

      @basshero the Gate know is working when the distortion os disengaged? I mean, can you use it to get rid of noise in the clean signal?

    • @herobass
      @herobass  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The Gate works with the distortion.

    • @herobass
      @herobass  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The EQ and the distortion side have 2 different switches and work independently.

  • @ObzzorRock
    @ObzzorRock 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    This DI gets really good reviews but this is the first video where I actually thought it sounded good (many others set the distortion to extremes that I couldn´t stand). Here the light crunch was what I thought I might actually use.

    • @herobass
      @herobass  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for that. Personally I think like you, to much distortion from this unit can sound a bit to harsh. For Bass I prefer the sound of Overdrive to distortion. That’s just me. Again thanks for the support.

  • @xtremeboy851
    @xtremeboy851 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    can you explain the groundlift/phantom on it?

    • @herobass
      @herobass  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The ground lift is for the removal of any ground or unwanted noise that may originate from the pedal when connected to other sources.
      The phantom power button works when you need a power source for the pedal and don’t have a 9v battery or a power supply for it. Using this option will take power from the mixer that is connected to.
      Both these options work with the button on the down position. Thanks for the comment and hope that helps.

      @@herobass if I connected to the XLR out and using 9v dc adaptor and my bass is active then I press the button down, what will happen? is it something wrong or not? thanks

    • @herobass
      @herobass  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      To my experience, it would continue to work only as a ground lift. Again, I use this pedal mainly with passive basses. I don’t think anything would go bad. Also, when recording, I use the XLR and the output at the same time to double track the bass, with the ground lift and thing have not gone wrong. That I know of…
      When I have an active bass, I go for my Darkglass B7Kv2 (updated video on the B7K, coming on a later date to the channel.)
      Hope that helps.
