Darren Criss was spectacular in Maybe Happy Ending, a truly innovative, charming musical. It may end up being the favorite for Best Musical come June, and Darren could be the dark horse in this category.
Loved the list. Hope you do them for the potential supporting noms. I agree with your two locks but I'd have to put Darren Cris as a lock. With the block of tickets released, it's clear producers are gonna do their darnest to keep the show open til Tony noms come out and as long as that happens I'd argue Cris is win competitive. That show is guaranteed at least 6 tony noms at this point.
I saw Maybe Happy Ending - loved, loved loved it and Darren Criss deserves a nomination. Already have tickets for Penzance in April. Can't wait. Love Ramin. Just missed Operation MIncemeat in London in Sept. Will see it in April, too.
Right now, I think Francis and Criss are frontrunners for nominations, just because their shows are running and received good-to-great reviews. Even if Maybe Happy Ending closes before nominations, they'll be recognized. It's by far the most highly rated show of the season thus far. I agree that Groff will probably get nominated, mainly because of his pedigree (though the vocals that have been released don't sound anything like Bobby Darin's sound or style). I'm highly suspicious of the Penzance "reimagining" and don't expect it to do well critically or commercially, so I don't think either Karimloo or Hyde-Pierce will be nominated. That leaves Jordan, Durand and Cumming vying for the last two spots. Igelhart actually has received VERY good reviews for his performance, so he could sneak in if Groff, Jordan, Durand or Cumming don't live up to expectations.
Great list, Floyd fan here - there’s a lot of love for the show in the industry, and as long as they don’t f*+=* up the production - which I don’t expect - i predict they’re going to give the show as many noms as possible. With Jordan getting passed on last year for a stellar performance, I can see them giving him the nomination at the least and I can also see, if he gives it 200% - which considering his work ethic and typical dedication - running away with the award. I can see Sunset getting the best actress and best revival, so they might want to divy up the love and give best actor to Floyd. I definitely think Darren is nominated, but for a win it’s a little bit of a quiet performance though excellent, Tom is great but the reviews bias mostly critical of the show, a la Cabaret, might mean a non-sweep, so a Tom win not guaranteed. With Jonathan just winning I don’t think it’s a guarantee win this year unless he blows our minds in that performance. The rest we’ll have to see when they open - love the coverage, this is exciting, can’t wait for more!❤🎉
So excited for Floyd Collins especially with this added context. Good point about voters wanting to spread the love which could affect Tom's chances of winning!
jeremy jordan better be nominate or i will not watch the tonys how dare they not even acknowledge him or even the great gasby will see what happens and if they will do the right thing.
Nicole's prolly gonna win but I prefer Audra's complex (anti-one-note) haunting yet grounded journey in Gypsy... which is the opposite of Nicole's kabuki performance. IMHO
Couldn't get passed all the "innovation" shticks and gimmicks from Sunset. It was like watching a high school performance with more money and a better production. Pair that with the kabuki performances.... at times it felt like a series of rehearsals in a dance studio. IMHO
Jonathan Groff always is my favorite. He's a true star.

Excited to see how Maybe Happy Ending and Darren will do in the spring
Darren is one of the main producers on Maybe Happy Ending so if they win best new musical, he could still be a winner 😂

I have heard from some people that saw a run through of just in time that you are right Jonathan is definitely going to be nominated
Excited for Just In Time!

I'm hoping to see both Operation Mincemeat and Pirates in April too!

So curious about how Penzance and Floyd Collins will be received and about the longevity of Maybe Happy Ending
Darren Cris is so good!! He will be my winner!!
I would keep an eye on Ainsley Melham. Having seen him in a few musicals in Australia, he always delivers.
Good to know thank you!
Adam Lambert in Cabaret
Not eligible.
Bio Pics? Movie term, and this is not the Oscars.
Good catch - bio musical

Tom Francés for the win btw BIOPIC is a movie not a stage play.

How could you predict for what hasn't even opened yet? That's silly
I have Durand, Francis, Jordan, Groff, and Iglehart
Darren Criss is a lock.
Nicole and Tom will replicate their win from Olivier 🎉🎉🎉

@@eyesproket We all know the final battle will be Nicole VS Audra, but who will win?
