    These Matchbox kits were always phenomenal value. The idea of a kit including diorama base and figures for no extra cost (as they originally were) is so good. Good kits too. Well done Revell for continuing the whole package.

    When I were a lad my 50p pocket money covered one Matchbox kit with 15p change for sweets, so I have very fond memories of this kit. Nice build, well constructed , painted and weathered. I usually use Seraphim Sepia for the wash, but the Nuln Oil looks really good, I might switch. The tracks always have loads of mould release agent so need very thorough cleaning after which they can be superglued. I like to glue to the toothed sprocket first and then glue to the top of the wheels/track guides adding a bit of track sag (might need to make sprue spacers to temporarily force the tracks to sag until the glue has set. The Matchbox or Revell rebox tracks can be gently stretched if they are too tight, or a very quick dip in boiling water will shrink them, but take care and go slowly, they can shrink so tight that they'll snap the wheels off! (I know from personal experience). Oddly Airfix 'rubber band' tracks don't shrink in boiling water. Also keep the boiling water away from your paint job, it might not damage it, but why risk it! With a bit of practice (and maybe some strategically placed weathering) those old rubber bands can actually look pretty decent. :)

Dad helped build and paint - he had more fun than I did I reckon :D There is a full range of other 76 scale tanks with bases and often figures. As you point out, the figures and base really help bring these little models to life. May have to buy some of these for some nostalgia builds!

Sadly, I've never built either three Firefly not the Cromwell, but I have faith I'll find them both. They are on my wishlist so.......... Idea for a painting / spray station.
    A cheap / second hand PC case with a clear side
    Pair of gloves
    Get rid of the guts of the case - drive shelves etc. to leave an empty box.
    Cut two circular holes in side, stick cuffs of gloves to circumference of holes.
    Voila. You can then put the model and spray can inside the case, close the lid, put your hands in the gloves and spray with your lungs intact :)
    BTW you're better at dioramas than you think!

    I liked the addition of the Arabic music in the opening scene. I also thought that the tank looked larger than it is, until the scene where you are working on the model. • @brianartillery

      The annoying thing with these kits from Revell, is that they were originally Matchbox kits, which were originally designed for younger modellers, and, as such, came with very carefully designed, 'idiot proof' pictorial instruction booklets, with easy to undestand symbols, etc. Revell ditched all that, and used their own. Unless there are particularly fiddly parts, I don't bother with the Revell instructions on their ex-Matchbox range. - I made the originals in the 1970's and 80's, and kept a lot of the original paperwork.
      Oh, and it's always a good idea to paint PVC tracks completely, with acrylic paint, before fitting; the PVC can sometimes react with styrene, and either dissolve it, or undergo a chemical change, and become friable and crumbly, so, instead of tracks, you have dust.

  • @gerardburton3741
    @gerardburton3741 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    This just an old reboxed Matchbox kit from the 70's. It was great kit then as Matchbox did models that were not generally available. But I cannot see any difference in the mouldings to bring up to a more modern standard. Still it is a nice kit.

    “This kit does not have the provision to position the hatch in an ‘open’ position...”
    Not true. I was able to position the hatch open by careful balancing whilst glueing it to the wall provided by the upper cupola half. I even managed to fit a (modified) PSC commander figure into the open hole!

    • @ModelMinutes
      @ModelMinutes  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      In some kits you get the choice of open or closed hatches included. What you are describing here is a personal modification to the kit which is not mentioned in the instructions. I still stand by my original statement

    • @Mr_Bunk
      @Mr_Bunk 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@ModelMinutes Just because the instructions do not mention such a method does not mean the kit lacks the provision for it. That would be like saying that the Airfix WW1 'Female' tank kit lacks the provision to build the option of two complete 'Male' sponsons because it doesn't mention them in the instructions, even though there are enough parts available to do so.
      I positioned the hatch without any need for further scratchbuilding or major modifications beyond the ability of even the very beginner. I still stand by my counterpoint.

    If you would have, say, this kit (in 1/76) and, say, a Panzer IV (in 1/72). How easy would you be able tot tell the scale difference?

    • @joeshmoe9978
      @joeshmoe9978 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you had 1/72 figures with a 1/76 vehicle, they would look a scale 8 feet tall. I seen a picture of a build that had a 1/76 tank with 1/72 tank riders, and it just didn't look too good.

    Thought re instructions.. maybe advise people to cross out options / parts they don't intend using? That way when it comes to fitting them together nobody accidentally uses the wrong part(s).
    Only including a closed option for the turret also avoided the bullet (pun intended) of having to mould an interior. Given the age of the kit that would be unlikely.
    Re tank tracks.. it could be worse.. individual links at 1:72 scale.. plank on frame with a vengeance *lol*
