From my past of making the fastest air-breathing airplane I could, I've learned that rapiers and an sr-71 style body (go figure) have allowed me to reach speeds of up to 1,750 m/s with aerodynamic heating being the main bottleneck I've encountered. May have to play around with using a fairing for a nosecone like you did, keep up the good work!
The air breathing mode on a rapier engine can actually go a little bit faster, and its still a jet engine. All the ramjet planes I have tried can only get up to around 1400m/s but I have got air breathing rapiers up to around 1600m/s and it could probably go faster still.
So, funny thing is, I made an a airplane in KSP that would usually go unto 1590m/s, until it just burned, due to heating! I haven't tried any radiators, but do you think I should upload a video about it?
Maybe. But, I recommend filling one section to the bream with radiators. Make sure they’re active before you put move them into the body to cover them. But your plane sounds very good!
@@MurrayCupholder Ok, so I also tried a variant of my airplane that uses the rapier engine, (in air-breathing mode), and it miraculously went 1798 m/s first try! I did this technique where I slowly gained some height and speed, then I wiped the nose down a bit very gently and then raised it up again! I basically tried to maintain my height while also letting gravity pick up some more speed! I then changed the rapier engine mode to the Closed cycle mode, and WOOOHOOO IT WENT SO FAST I ESCAPED THE ATMOSPHERE AND WENT TO ORBIT! I ALMOST COLLIDED WITH DUNA! Also, I think you're plane's overall shape must affect the plane's speed a lot! Mine's is almost like a thick needle, and I made sure the Air goes around it like a bullet! Shall I make a video about it? Also, why don't you make a Christmas KSP Video? I am doing one!
@@MurrayCupholder Yes, a Christmas special! Currently I am making a Music Video in KSP for the Song "All I want for Christmas Is You" By Mariah Carey. I decide to use my Fastest Airplane, the one I mentionedd where it went like 1790 m/s! Also... CHEERS!
@@MurrayCupholder so your telling me that if i took the giganitc wings and used those, it would be the same as using the concord wings, assuming they both produced the same ammount of lift and produced the same center of lift?
Have you tried Ferram AeRospace (FAR)? It's a mod for aerodynamics that makes plane design much, much more realistic. If you put it together right, you can build planes that can reach up to 1600m/s or possibly even 1700m/s, although I've never gotten that far. With FAR, wing sweep, fuselage shape, all sorts of stuff affect how well a plane flies in various conditions in ways that just don't exist in stock KSP.
@@MurrayCupholder It won't let me. Just search it with Google or something, the KSP forum post about it should be the top result and you can get it there.
Just use vector engine its better also you can use fairings and engine plates (if you have making history) to get completely rid of all drag theres a video somewhere on how to do it
Is more a limitation of the physics engine of the game, not so much of the airplane: I did a recent test were I flew around Kerbin in a "Rutan Proteus" like airplane, it averaged 1350m/s, with a Sr-71 style it went up to 1400 something. The thing is that you fly high to have less drag, but then there is less oxygen, if you fly faster you get more oxygen, but around 1400 seems to be a hard limit. Else would be to umbalanced to go to space I belive, it is fun to try and test, thou

for more speed angle the wings and try the f12 menu, helps notice drag and lift
Sweep angle has no affect in KSP
unfortunately, @OneMoreDesu is correct. but good insight.

yep. that's KSP for you.
hypersonic pencil 👍
pencil with wings
nice

Vector doesnt have enough isp for planes, hes trying to go for long flights
unfortunately, i dont have any mods for engine plates, or any means to get them, but that would work. i did see that vid.
@@escoosy1763but then, with no drag, you could orbit Kerbin at 10 kilometers above sea level.
@@MurrayCupholder Oh i forgor about that
But arent rapiers better for that?
@@escoosy1763 you’ll see in the next video, which is uploading when this message is sent.
i'm very proud of this aircraft. none other like i've ever built. Watch my latest videos! and the DC link finally works.
You can just build a smaller one that can reach 1050m/s with postburner
Less drag u have more is the speed that u can achive, so smaller wings are perfect for supersonic jets
@ I did exactly that on the exact same plane, but I got worse results, at 700 meters per second being its speed cap.
Depends on the type of engine and the type of intake
Maybe u could place on this Albatros the structural intake that has better aerodinamics and try to get like delta wing D that are long and thin

In my latest vid, I crushed that. But, the physics engine is definitely a problem.
cool but ive made a plane that can go 1500m/s witch is mach 4 but 1 wrong move and it will go boom
