  • Alcala comes from the Arabic word Qala't. A traditional Andalus town that sits on a rock elevated 3,376 feet. In the 8th Century, a military post was established. The Fortified town enclosed by many walls and large doors was Conquered in 1341 by Alfonso XI, he added la Real (which means Royal). Inside the walls, there is a Mosque, a Citadel, ruins of a fortified town, and market place. The Church has a glass floor which exposes a burial ground.
