    I would love to have a Bison camper but in the tiny form factor similar to the campers with no over cab bed like the Rayzr campers, Capri cowboy campers or Rock-a-bye drifter campers. What kind of budget would I need for something like that?

    Is that camper made by Bison or are they using another manufactuer then assembling them in house? What are the specs on the wall/floor materials and thickness? Looks very nice and well built for the overland crowd. Im on the fence about a build out like this unit or a slide in truck camper from NuCamp. I have a F350 srw long bed at this time and was thinking about trading out for a 550, but this being only 1300lbs empty gives me a 2k lbs of capacity before i hit my trucks GVWR. So i could do a nice build out on a unit like this and not have to take on a new truck for a build. Kudos to Bison and their skills, especially with those cabinets from a small manufactuer!!

      We build our campers all in house and from scratch. Using all American Made materials for the habitat itself. No cheap Chinese panels that you see elsewhere.

    Sweet camper! We need to see this Tacoma camper Bison mentioned. I want to build a small nimble off road camper to live out of for a Alaska & west coast national parks trip but when you start adding the #’s up all of a sudden it seems like you need a 3/4 or 1Ton chassis. I’m really thinking about a new Nissan Frontier access cab since the payload is a little higher. Then removing the bed and building out a 7x8 camper.

      @largemarge1603 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @Wyn,
      I think you are right to consider GVWR.
      Our ExpeditionVehicle GVWR -- 29,000#.
      Weight across the scale -- 14,000#.
      Cargo capacity -- about seven ton.
      2003, we converted a 1996 Ford CF8000 box-van to our concept of an ExpeditionVehicle.
      Nearly two decades full-time live-aboard.
      Summers up rough logger tracks to remote mountain lakes.
      Winters on isolated Baja beaches.
      .
      On skoolie and other home-built forums, we suggest builders:
      * acquire some old beater
      * toss in some car-camping gear
      * go have fun.
      Allow the conversion to evolve organically.
      .
      Building then using risks forcing the adventure to fit the rig.

      Don’t do it! Don’t buy a Nissan, you’ll regret it. Sadly, all car manufacturers make unreliable vehicles. Toyota and Honda are the only two left that make quality reliable vehicles. If you buy a new pickup truck, buy Toyota. It will cost you more but save money in the long run.

      @@largemarge1603 -- I agree and I call this Dynamic Design -- let your experiences in the real world inform your choices about what to put where. Or do the "no build" approach where things can be moved around until you like the fit. My first "build" was just a tall bed cap (about 6" higher than the cab) and the stove and sink were contained in their own cabinets in the rear corners of the truck bed. They had garage door handles and one could pull two pins and lift the cabinets out to use outside. This also makes more room in the truck bed to haul materials and tools as needed. :)

    That’s actually not too bad a price for that shell all things considered. That is pretty close to my price range. I wonder what the insulation is in it? I full time mostly in the northern part of the US so insulation is necessity for me!
    Been fulltiming in a northern lite for 3 years dang near. It works pretty well but I’m looking to get a bit more space and functionality/durability from a rig. Going to upgrade to a 5500 soon and am deciding if I want to keep the camper or make an expedition rig for my travels.

      @@jonc7371 Recently I ran into a current client of Bison Overland. This couple is living out of it full time for the next year or two. This was their 3rd pop-up style camper. They have ran a 4wheel and a Palomino pop-up. This couple couldn't stop talking out crapy the Palomino camper was. It was great only for RV park camping. Then they got the 4wheel one and they wasn't impressed either. They did said that the Bison was by far superior that the other two. I believe Bison did built out the interior for them, that I'm not 100%.

    2003, we built our ExpeditionVehicle interior as 12x7 by 7h, about 600cf.
    Nearly two decades full-time live-aboard.
    We engineered a rear-entry, with a permanent porch and permanent roof... our combination:
    * mud-room
    * shower
    * summer kitchen.
    .
    For this new Bison, I could see a rear 'U' kitchen.
    With similar interior dimensions, this size is ideal for:
    * three RedHeelers, plus
    * two adults, and
    * a frequent yummy third!
    .
    An aside:
    Clodd mentioned showers.
    A couple weeks ago, I acquired a back-pack garden-sprayer, a Craftsman 20v.
    The battery is compatible with our other Craftsman tools:
    * drills
    * saws
    * impact driver
    * and our 20v chain-saw.
    The four-gallon dark-red tank absorbs sun nicely for a comfy shower.
    .
    For our introduction, with plenty of portraits and our reasons for our decisions including this size:
