    Both vocalists were authentic and touching. The unsung hero was the comping of the pianist. All were excellent. I would gladly work with any of them. Anytime. Anywhere.

    Wow... The one of the best videos I ever seen.
    I study classical singing, but I sing jazz too. Two wonderful worlds.

    So my takeaway from this is that Jazz wants to connect with you while classical wants a performance for you. I appreciate both styles but Jazz is so grounded it pulls my heart in

    I want to incorporate Jazz and Classical Vocals along with my Rock/Metal/Soul/Rap vocals. But according to Melissa Cross, it's not encouraged to mix Classical vocals with screaming and growling because it can damage the voice.

    • @Sumarbrander
      @Sumarbrander 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well it’s all technique dependend. When you learn how to mix a proper fry scream into your singing it surely can be done

    • @k.p.bolden7329

      @@Sumarbrander Not with Classical Opera singing. That's why in bands like Dimmu Borgir, Fleshgod Apocalypse, Oceans Of Slumber, Epica and Cradle Of Filth has 2 vocalists in their bands. One to sing the Clean Operatic parts and the other performing the screams and growls. It will tear up your voice trying to perform those 2 styles, in particular. I've been a Metal Frontman for 21 years. I know what I'm talking about.

    Sometimes I wish "classical" vocal repertoire wasn't always referencing CLASSICAL literature; these selections are beautiful but vocal styles in the "classical" vein are much broader than 17th-18th century repertoire. I think that only reinforces misconceptions about it.

    What surprises me the most is how both singers present their prejudices as something that they "have heard". They mean they've never heard each others type of music?? Or what? Very interesting hahahh

    I appreciate the skills for singing classical, but I can't stand listening to it. It like a sport how high can I sing or how low and more emotion in their facial gestures than what they sing.

      It exclusively made to be listened live. The way they project their voice sounds bad picked by microphones. And also, not all singers have a good tone (idk why) My favorite singer would be Kathleen Battle
