Urdu and Hindi are almost similar. They have the same base language but Urdu has more loan words and influence from Persian and Hindi has more loan words and influence from Sanskrit. Urdu is mostly written in Arabic script and Hindi is written in Devanagari script (script used to write Sanskrit). Both languages are from Indian subcontinent.

Incorrect. Urdu was the lingua Franca before partition. Indians just changed the label. And now slowly slowly they are bringing in Sanskrit words into it. The Hindi so called songs are all written by Urdu poets. Please stop spreading wrong information. All songs of Bollywood till 90s were written by Urdu poets. Mostly Muslims. And that is why they use all Urdu words. You people don’t even know the roots of those words and neither true meanings. But now you see more and more Sanskrit words coming through. Finally you will speak Hindi the wrongful title given overnight in 1947 to the all the Urdu movies and songs. It really is disgusting behaviors of that time.

@@rizwanmuhammad6468 Persian is the court language at Mughal court. Urdu is the language spoken by common Muslim subjects. Hindus, Sikhs and others who were in administrative roles also spoke Urdu and in some cases Persian. The rest spoke the language of their region. Lingua franca means the language of the common man, which Urdu clearly is not. Hindi is also not the lingua franca. It is the more native version of the hodge podge spoken around Delhi during the British rule. Urdu is the more Arabic and Persian influenced version of the same.

Rahat Fateh Ali Khan owes his skills and pays his deep respect to Ustaad- Nusrat Saab. He has been in a long association with his master and grew up in a family having a legacy of classical music and qawwali. His voice distinctly gives us the feeling of Raag, Sur, aAaap, Taal used by Nusrat Saab and appears well learned. The highs and lows tone is so beautifully and romantically used in every song.
He is also one of the most disciplined artists and respects music in the true sense. In many of his interviewes I have seen, when the anchor requests him to sing a song of Nusrat saab, he used to tell: Ustaadon ki gayi hui chiz ko 40 baar kaan haath lga k gaani chahiye. [Before singing the songs of Ustaad, one should touch his ears 40 times].

So this is Urdu, it is written in Arabic. The reason why Hindi and Urdu are considered similar or interchangeable is because they originated and are predominantly spoken in the same region of south Asia. The subtle difference is the influence of Persian, Arabic and even some Turkish in the Urdu language as opposed to Hindi being influenced by Sanskrit. One has to be familiar with Urdu or Hindi to be able to differentiate clearly, this particular song would be considered Urdu, many of the Bollywood songs would be more so a mixture of Hindi & Urdu or more Hindi influenced.

This was Urdu. Up to some extent, but very little, Urdu and Hindi are the same. Both carry almost similar grammar. But vocabulary mostly comes from Sanskrit in Hindi. In the case of Urdu, it is far more diverse due Muslims connections with Persian Iran, Turkish, Arabic, and central Asia. Urdu borrows Arabic script in writing.

Urdu has its roots in Hindavi and Turkish languages; Urdu has over 40K (OLD ) Turkish words; Urdu, like Hindi and Turkish, is a vowel-rich language; the word Urdu itself comes from Turkish ( Ordu ); Turkey has a town called Ordu in the black sea coast. Urdu in Turkish literally means Lashkar; Farsi and Arabic words were later added to Urdu mainly in the last 200 years, although Urdu itself is over 800 years old.

speak mix of Hindi and Urdu Called "Hindustani" language
There are regions in Pakistan where people only speak pure urdu without using any Hindi words....
