1st Listen. Yo Ku, don't throw out the Darth Ku hoodie just yet. This sht might get ugly let them tell it. Detroit vs Everybody. Stay up Ku. #GO PISTONS
Pistons have been a mess for Years. Not going to fix the mess in one off season. But after this season, they need to determine who is really worth keeping and fit together.
The Pistons roster construction is horrible. They figured get more athletes and less shooting last season. This team will be better but still bottom of the East team. You have to trade some of the young assets.
I just think that getting rid of Monty was probably the most understated move of the offseason. A decent coach who cared to be in Detroit plus the key players not getting hurt at the end of the season easily would've propelled the team to 24-25 wins and not finish as one of the worst of all time. Another coach would've probably also done much better at player development. At the very least, we could've been more certain about the cade/ivey combo's future. Instead, we get nothing but regression and more questions. All this was exacerbated by the passive Troy Weaver. I believe the organization has gotten smarter and has set their priorities straight this time
Totally agree, except think it was too many cooks and not enough assets rather than Troy being passive. He said he would have balanced the roster much sooner if it was up to him, but he also managed picks so poorly he kind of tied his own hands.
Firing Monty was the second most overrated move of the summer. Firing Weaver was the most overrated move. We still have the same people making decisions at the top. We still can't bring in decent players under age 30.
68 losses but a lot of that has to be pinned to Monty Williams blatant coaching malpractice. We were young and had hobbled vets, but Monty was tryna lose on purpose idc how you twist it. I watched 80/85% of games last season. I don’t think I’m being foolish saying that PISTONS WILL WIN 30 GAMES ‘24-‘25 season. 28 at the least. Cade & Ivey criticism is same thing Tatum/Brown been getting for years. Brown over shined but still got a Chip. Watch!
Weaver the unnamed Exec? Har Har 68 losses and pick 5 not doing well in Summer League is not a good look. At least we turned 60 million in cap into two high quality starters....
Defensive HC by year two will emphasis Defense💪 7 foot centers/stretch 5 trending. Physicality allowed is a good first step. Steals, deflections, minimize Turnovers.
I belive Ron Holland was a controversial pick, i like the kid but i dont think he was the right fit, I watched him play and i honestly wasnt impressed like i was when i first saw Asuar and Ivey.
What is not impressive about a SG/SF that can average 18-20 without a PG and also plays D? You need 3 point shooting too out of an 18 year old? If he had that he would have gone #1.
@@cordelldemattei5446 Ron Holland was projected to go close to pick ten for a reason. He just isn't that good. Matas is basically the same player bot taller and longer. Baring a big improvement in 3% we just drafted Diallo with pick 5.

This year we have a coach that wants to be here that hopefully knows how to use the guys we have. We also got rid of all the players that stinted our growth. We need to give our young core one more season and with a coach that actually cares. If they don’t win at least 24 games I would say this team is a mess!!! I’m not saying they are going to be great but they will be better. That’s just my thoughts. I know many will disagree and that’s ok, but let’s just wait and see how this team does!!

This will be the first time that Ivey and Cade have played together due to injury and Monty and we should have some at least semi-reliable depth. Ku i actually lean with disagreeing with your first point, i don’t believe this team was 14 win bad in the first place and was really shot in the foot with the poor roster fit together and the 12 man line ups. Also it’s so important to consider that if we never go on the losing streak, maybe randomly win a game 10 games in somehow before it became a really long streak, they win about 20 games with a team that’s more bought in. Seeing the difference in bough in Duren first 3 games vs rest of the szn was the only rea example i have of that. I really do believe that we win 30 this year.
So, how does the roster fit any better this year? Just due to health because all the guys we picked up shoot the same as the guys they replaced. We actually have more guys that need time this year than last year. The biggest change this season will be due to coaching, we will hopefully have some.
Pistons 5 year win average is less than 19. Getting worse and worse during that stretch. What SHOULD we call them? Ku explains how this roster can't be good defensively. Then he touts the offensive core. But this core has NO serious floor spacers. Pistons did acquired average-at-best floor spacers. We DID have Bojan and supposed free agent spacers prior seasons. I' ll believe this roster can function beyond "mess" mode when I see it.
our only hope is that Cade Ivey Ausar Holland Duren some day becomes one of the best lineups in the league. Trading for Lauri and Kesler would take Ivey, Duren, Ausar and like 5 first round picks.
In my opinion, the only way this roster could be flipped into a good team is if Ausar and Ron Holland both develop into all star or borderline all star caliber players, with Ausar at the 2 and Holland at the 3. Then they get a two way stretch 4 and a rim protecting stretch center. Ivey is the odd man out and should get traded, and Duren should get replaced with a 3 and d center in the future for better fit. This would be a large team with Cade being the shortest player in the startling lineup, with a good defensive identity. This is pretty much the only way I can envision this current team turning into a legitimate contender in 5-6 years
out moral around the league is so bad that i think we’re done as far as acquiring players goes. Missed on Buddy, probably Tyus Jones. I think Trajan didn’t know how bad of a moral this organization has.
Man, this team is going to have a lot of people eating crow next season. Many underestimated the Going to Work Detroit Pistons would become. Look at the OKC Thunder from 2020 to 2024.
Those 2 teams you mention have established identities. The Pistons haven't made a commitment either way. The Going to Work team was a veteran team that was built on defense. OKC is a good young team, but with a good defensive presence already. OKC has defined their core (SGA, Jaylen Williams & Chet. They had no problem moving off a top 10 lottery pick in Giddey) We are still trying to identify who can play with Cade & if we should move off 1 or 2 lottery picks. Gotta keep in mind there is a new coaching staff with new offensive & defensive schemes to learn/adjust to
@@amplescramblelogic2049 I like the optimism but there are still many questions. Who is the starting 5? Can this team improve defensively as well as offensively? What is meant by a fast turnaround as coming off a 14 win season, you can’t have anything other than improvement

Same core rotation. Hopefully our new versions for Bojan, Burkes, and Morris will be healthy for the first half of the season. Weaver's draft picks being one year older will have a positive impact. 22-28 wins, depending upon injuries.
@@pheralanpathfinder4897 It's not the same core rotation. Half the rotation will be brand new. Plus Stew missed half the season. Duren missed some games. Cade missed some games. We only had 16 games from Tecch. It will be a VERY new team.
Ku, I'm highly disappointed that you seem to agree with this anonymous person. No recent team has had as bad a five year stretch Isiah we have buy don't forget how bad the Philly proxess was. Their 4 years was a bad as any of our 4 years. Also last year wouldn't have been as bad as it was if it wasn't Monty being a waste of space. He never wanted to coach and it should. He damaged Ivey. That only cost the team at least 10 wins over the season. Harris is an improvement over Stewart starting g at the power forward. And Fontecchio is an up grade over Bogdanovic. Should Ivey return on track coming off his rookie season, that's a big improvement. Now Cade, you keep saying he is the man. Well, hell, shouldn't he be better with more spacing around him. Can't talk or both sides of your mouth. The bench is better if Stewart, Paul Ausar, Beasley and THJ should be better than last year.
Having vets miss fewer games will help the Pistons win more. The Weaver Core being a year older will help. Ron being a bad draft pick is going to hurt because tanking teams play their top ten draft picks. Winning 22-28 games this season is still a mess. We turned 60m in cap into Harris, THJ, and Beasley. That is a disaster.
I don’t blame anyone for having a negative hot take about the Pistons but I do take issue when opinions are lacking context. The exec said the Pistons have been tanking for four years and didn’t plan to. That’s patently false. When the Pistons brought in Casey they planned for him to coach vet team on the come up. It didn’t take Casey long to go to the higher ups and tell them they needed a complete rebuild. So…they put a plan together to get rid of the vets and rebuild. What that means is, they DID plan to tank. They drafted their “core four,” acquired Cade with the first pick, added Jaden & Jalen, and got one the twins (Ausar) and Sasser. In between that time they had several pivots adding and subtracting vets who couldn’t help us and suffered some injuries The plan was for the changing core to be our future but we failed to figure out fit. Probably the biggest failure coming out of an intentional tanking season was adding Monty Williams who didn’t want to coach. Bottom line is no one outside of local media and fans of the Pistons are actually following them enough to make an informed assessment. Opinions are formed based on the record not based on what contributed to it. Last season was sabotage. We weren’t a 14 win team but we were led by a coach who only had 14 wins worth of an investment into the team. BTW - no pick in the draft was going to elevate us. Also, the coach we have now will give honest effort and true analysis of the roster. We’re on the way up
@@cordelldemattei5446 But local media has been talking Stew down. Hard to blame fans for not noticing that Stew was a bright light in an unwatchable season.
I don't think he understands the importance of coaching to defense and development. He named Chaucey Billups as an example. Billups was not known as a good defender coming to Detroit. As a matter fact when the Pistons signed him it was perceived as meh move. Nobody thought Billups was going to become the All NBA/Defensive Guard. He was failed top draft pick that had been traded around league for years. Found a little success in his 6th year and the Pistons took a chance on him. Some though he was overpaid at the time. RIP didn't come here as a good team defender either but Larry Brown demanded it of all the players. Larry Brown developed Hamilton and Chauncey into the great backcourt they became. These players don't have to be good individual defenders they need to be good team defenders with effort. That comes from good coaching which the Pistons have lacked for last couple of years. I do believe Duren takes a jump in his defense this year because JB will demand it and knows how to develop and pull that skill out of him because the tools are there. What and see.
@@LockedOnPistons I actually didn't but even if I did the point still stands. I think you would agree Monty was a horrid coach last year that didn't understand the strengths of his team and seemed uninterested in coaching at all last year. I think that was clear.
I think expecting players who have never been good defenders, esp ones who were called one of the worst defensive prospects in college, to all of a sudden become good ones is unrealistic at best. It could happen, but expecting everyone to instead of basing opinion off of evidence and what we’ve seen but rather blind hope is how Troy Weaver got this team to where they are right now
@@LockedOnPistons Fair point. That doesn't mean they can't improve though. There have been a lot of players who have come in as bad defenders and developed. Kobe same age as Duren started off as a bad defender. G Hill didn't start off as an all world defender. There are so many great players I can name that became either great defenders themselves or good team defender once they got under the right coaching. The question I always ask is the whether the effort and tools are there.
I think there’s legit questions being asked about whether the effort and IQ is there for Duren-I think the most realistic answer is if you do get that out of him, it’s probably not happening in one offseason at 20 years old. Probably will be with more experience and as he matures, which will take some time.
Sadly that appears to have been the plan. Trading expiring assets for good players at the deadline sounds good, but rarely happens if you don't add a bunch of future first round picks to the deal. Taking on bad contracts to get draft picks could have been done this summer by doing less good deals for Barnes and RJ, but we missed on both of those opportunities. This was a bad offseason. The deadline probably is going to feature more small moves.

@@zacht2806 would be hilarious if it was Weaver.
The Pistons roster construction is horrible. They figured get more athletes and less shooting last season. This team will be better but still bottom of the East team. You have to trade some of the young assets.
Are they really assets at this point? Other than Cade, I mean.
Watch!
You are being wildly optimistic.
14-68 last season. As rock bottom as it gets.
We hope!

68 losses and pick 5 not doing well in Summer League is not a good look. At least we turned 60 million in cap into two high quality starters....
Wait, what? WHO are these high quality starters you speak of?
@@cordelldemattei5446 Pretty sure this one was sarcasm, as they definitely did not do that.

Those pre draft projections are meaningless, useless, idgaf about those pre draft predictions, historically they’ve been wrong far too often
Yes last year was a mess and we still have young core, but the issue with last year was we had a coach that didn’t want to be here NOT coaching a young core that needed coaching.
I mean, I don't think they get to 24, the other teams are too good.
The anon is clearly wrong because he believes the Pistons haven’t been trying to rebuild. Dude, they deliberately tore it down to nothing and went after multiple top 5 picks. Last year was a mess. Clearly. This year? It looks nothing like last year.
@@57otis60 It was a mess, I agree. But new leadership, new coaching staff, more than half of the roster is brand new, and there is a ton of contract flexibility to make moves in the near future. We had ultimate cap flexibility this summer and basically punted. Again!
@@pheralanpathfinder4897 How so? We brought in 4 guys who either started or were in the main rotation of Playoff teams. We also used it to bring back Fontecchio, who was the best move the Pistons have made in a while.
@@elblouses128 we didn't use the room exception, didn't use about 10m in cap. The two veterans under 30 were signed to deals designed to be shopped at the deadline. We gave away Grimes.
The only difference with last summer is that THJ isn't washed, while Joe Harris clearly was finished as an NBA player.
@@pheralanpathfinder4897 The season hasn’t started so we don’t know know how the remaining cap will be spent. Tobias is the best player we’ve brought in since Jerami Grant. Fontecchio was the best move since him, and so resigning him puts the team in a better situation heading into next. You add Beasley, Hardaway, and Reed and that’s way more veterans who actually play.
It was the coaching and the front office that did a horrible job with young talented players. It wasnt the players.
The Pistons will be considered "bad" until they can prove they can win.
This year is going to be the year we take a step forward. We obtained competent vets and we have a coach who wants to be here/knows our players strengths and weaknesses. Cade and Ivey are going to put it together and go crazy this year
I hope you are right. The only things that have really changed are we have a coach that wants to do the job and vets that have generally been healthy. This will be the first time that Ivey and Cade have played together due to injury and Monty and we should have some at least semi-reliable depth. Our starters sat with a lead and all bench lineups dug us holes impossible to climb out of this year, so it may be possible to see a big jump with even our limited changes.
@@cordelldemattei5446 only thing I didn’t like this offseason was the holland pick
@@MikeyP123 who would you rather they picked at #5?
@@cordelldemattei5446 a player that gives the young core we have the best chance to succeed. Not another project player. If the pistons do not improve significantly in the next 2 seasons we are looking at another rebuild
@@MikeyP123 and in this draft who might that have been at #5 that wasn’t a reach? How about names, not theory. The only players I could see taking over Holland at #5 may have been Clingan and Williams.
Unless Bojan and Morris are healthy the first half of the season, this team wasn't winning 20 games even with a good coach.
Like Bojan Burks, and Morris, Tobias, THJ, and Beasley are floor spacers. Will they be healthy?
our only hope is that Cade Ivey Ausar Holland Duren some day becomes one of the best lineups in the league.
No, it is still a terrible roster.
Gotta keep in mind there is a new coaching staff with new offensive & defensive schemes to learn/adjust to
@@michaelpowell9152 I feel you, but this will be a fast turnaround, trust me.
@@amplescramblelogic2049 I like the optimism but there are still many questions. Who is the starting 5? Can this team improve defensively as well as offensively? What is meant by a fast turnaround as coming off a 14 win season, you can’t have anything other than improvement

I was done with this team after a game they lost to the Clippers last season where they gave up. Born and raised in Detroit, I've seen the worst of the worst with this team pre-Isaiah. Fans thought it couldn't get any worse than the 23 win and 17 win seasons.
"An anonymous executive" means a sports writer who is too cowardly to take credit for his own fabrications..
Or, maybe, Troy Weaver?
Probably a Pistons executive who doesn't want to move his family to a new city. Or maybe one who isn't good enough to land a job for a different NBA team.
I believe Pistons could win 28 to 30 games this season.
Honestly…don’t want to be pompous…but I didn’t forget…
For Cade to be your savior I swear u never hold him accountable lol he can not play defense ,have poor shooting and all u will say is he don’t have help so he don’t give his best lol just make sure u swallow
24 players from last year’s team are gone. New President. New Coaches. 4 new vets from playoff team rotations. Next year will be a VERY different team. We simply don’t know how bad they will be.
@pheralanpathfinder4897 I completely agree with you on how they used the cap. Almost as bad as Weaver did last year getting Harris.
@@Shaw_Cardboard_Treasures That's why this anonymous observer is correct!
In between that time they had several pivots adding and subtracting vets who couldn’t help us and suffered some injuries
The plan was for the changing core to be our future but we failed to figure out fit.
We’re on the way up
Having floor spacing 4's definitely helps feel free to mention when we had that in Cades time here.

@@pheralanpathfinder4897 he was also quite underutilized for the shooting numbers he posted
I’m pretty sure you commented something similar last offseason
The players they picked up can be flipped for assets at the deadline
Sadly that appears to have been the plan. Trading expiring assets for good players at the deadline sounds good, but rarely happens if you don't add a bunch of future first round picks to the deal. Taking on bad contracts to get draft picks could have been done this summer by doing less good deals for Barnes and RJ, but we missed on both of those opportunities.
This was a bad offseason. The deadline probably is going to feature more small moves.
