- THIS IS THE END OF THIS JOURNEY FOR MY VAN. IT BLEW ALL GEARS.
This great van life adventure is never dull thats for sure. Ive been having transmission issues and couldn't find a shop to so the repair without waiting a month. So i decided to make the just about 1500 KMS drive into Calgary Alberta to vet my van fixed at Metro Ford.
My name is Chrome i have been living in y cargo van for 6 years now. I started this lifestyle BROKE and IN DEBT and after t11 months of living the van life i cleared my debt and started to put my life back together and build for a better future. I have turned my original van into a badass camper van that is lifted with all the toys. Over the years i went from being broke and stealth camping in the city and sleeping at walmarts... to now, living full time in a jacked up van and driving deep off-grid into the backcountry and living life in the dirt. WOW LIFE HAS CHANGED.

Well, Chrome, at least you did your best, but the worst scenario could have happened, especially on a bad transmission. Your van was exhausted; it was time to stop for safety reasons, and you ended up with a friendly tow driver who helped you complete your destination. So, in the end, it all works out perfectly. Well done, and you and Cruz are both safe!

It’s amazing how many miles the transmission allowed you to go considering the mechanic said not to go anywhere with it.

These last few videos have been the most anxiety ridden and the best thing on YT. This is better than watching tv. I’m so glad you, Cruzie and the van made it as far as you did. That van is a beast. We can breathe now.

I went from hopeful to suspense, anxiety ,and relief all in 25 minutes. I need a mental nap now. I'm so glad you all made it safely.
Glad you and Cruze are ok! Our van exploded on the hwy last weekend. My husband and son got a ride back with the tow truck driver and they towed our van back 139 KM, it is being fixed today.

She got the car to the side of the street, but froze. I was in a major bus accident like your life flashes before your eyes scary. We were all surprised no one especially the driver didn't die.

I'm glad you got as close as you did. You got a lot further than I did when my transmission went out! That "in gear, slipping, in gear" was present at the beginning of my "transmission went out" ordeal. I'm glad you and Cruzie are safe. Ivan, the tow truck driver, is super cool!
I can totally relate to the stress and craziness of such travel. I drove a 1979 RV from Seattle, WA to Tucson, AZ (1532 miles, 2466 KM) with a bad (going) transmission. Had to travel at night and early morning only. It would stall halfway up a California mountain ranges. We had to rest frequently. It took two weeks and we did make it. Sometimes you just have to bite the bullet. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t. Life is an adventure.

I feel you Chrome. My clutch went out going up Filmore from Lombard in San Francisco. A street so steep that the sidewalk has steps. I had to back my car down to flat land, in traffic, and limp home on the flattest streets possible...

That's the positive in this. You got close enough that it wasn't an outrageously expensive tow. When you showed the camping spot you wanted I wondered how they would get in there to extract you. Didn't have to worry about it. I wish you and Cruzie a goid place to stay.

I'm not sure the potential for additional catastrophic damage would be worth it for me. But if you got to, you got to. My van only has a 4 speed auto and needs to sit running in park to cool it down when it gets hot. Not sure about ford's but if it cools through the rad that's the ticket.

It takes off again after you shut it off because the filter is getting clogged with debris, and it settles in the pan when you shut it off! Glad you guys made it!
So glad you made it to Calgary Chrome. I was routing for you to get there and you made it at least within towing distance. Excited for your upcoming videos to see what you rent for a home while the van gets fixed.
Personally, I think it would be better to highball it and drive directly there, 11 hour drive with no overnight stops and minimal stops for gas and food only. That way you have minimal starts to get back on the road.

FORDS are so reliable. I had a Ford and it is the most reliable car I have ever owned and it lasted 6 years more than it should have. We are glad you and Cruizy are safe
Sadly, that wasn't my experience with Ford products. Tried two and then moved on to a completely different company.
