I think 2011 Giants defied more odds than 2007 Giants. ‘11 Giants had to play Falcons in wildcard, then go to Lambeau against 15-1 Packers, then go to San Francisco to play #1 defense in the league, and then of course upsetting New England once again.

@@michaeljones155 - Makes me even angrier as a Cowboys fan. Jason Garrett was more concerned about becoming a head coach than winning as a coordinator (even that was a title he didn't deserve). Too much circus and county club atmosphere in Dallas made it impossible to win, even when they had some nice talent.
T.O. was arguably the best WR in the league, and they didn't want to give him the ball...because, he was T.O.

Best thing to happen to the '07 Giants was that last regular season Sunday night game against the Patriots. The Giants had the 5-seed locked up win or lose. They could have rested players but they said "bullshit, we're playing all out to win". They came up short at 38-35 and the Patriots went 16-0. But afterward the Giants knew that after that performance they could go up in the playoffs against anybody.

I got to put the 2020 Buccaneers as one of the most surprising Wild Card teams to win the Super Bowl. They were completely dismantled by the Saints in the regular season (twice), then were able to defeat three future HOF quarterbacks in the postseason. Then to exact complete destruction on the favored Pat Mahomes-led Chiefs offense in the Super Bowl was just shocking. Although, the 2007 G-Men languishing through the better part of the regular season, then "powering on" at the end and defeating the undefeated Patriots, was the most impressive Wild Card team I've ever witnessed.

As a pats fan, The Giants post season run in 2007 was amazing. Although it hurt losing to them, it was a great game and they played their hearts out. The 2011 run I thought was much better, although they weren’t a wild card team that year, they should’ve been at 9-7. But watching them beat down that Packers team in GB, and going all the way to SF and beating them there was amazing. I was bitter after the 2nd SB loss but I will always respect the Giants.

2007 Giants is undoubtedly one of the biggest underdog stories in all of sports history. First they beat 9-7 Bucs who got hot late in the season, then they beat NFC's #1 seed, the 13-3 Cowboys who looked very good and were favourites from NFC to go to the Superbowl, shocked everyone. Then they beat 14-3 Packers in one of the coldest games of all time. And on top of all that, in the Superbowl they beat 18-0 Patriots (which up until the Superbowl, was considered the greatest team of all time) Cowboys were heavily favoured to beat them, couldn't do it. Packers were favourite to beat them, couldn't do it. And Patriots were already considered a Superbowl winners, and still couldn't get it done. Just phenomenal

In 1975 I was a little kid. My best buddy, who was 2 yrs older than me, loved the Steelers. I lived in Milwaukee, so I should have been a Packers fan but I was 7. I didn't like green. Stupid? Yeah, but again I was a little kid. I liked, UGH I HATE even admitting this, I liked the Vikings. Fran Tarkenton, Chuck Foreman, and the helmet looked cool. So when they played each other and the Steelers WON AGAIN, I was crushed. Now HEH HEH HEH HEH, as a Packers fan....LOSE Vikings LOSE.
But then the Packers who were not suppose to make it, DID MAKE IT, and BEAT the Steelers. My buddy has long since been moved, but it was so awesome to see us, the Packers as underdogs kick butt. That was a GREAT YEAR!

  • @timothywayne3813
    @timothywayne3813 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Let me see here. The first "non-divisional winner" to go all the way was the Kansas City Chiefs, but they weren't a "Wild Card" team because the term didn't exist then. By that logic the first two World Championships of Pro Football were not Super Bowls because the term didn't exist then, except in the mind of Lamar Hunt. "Super Bowl" became the official name of that contest beginning with the third annual game. The only reason the Chiefs got to the playoffs during the 1969 season was because the AFL wanted an extra playoff weekend in it's last year before the merger. The Chiefs earned the chance to redeem their loss to the Packers in that first Championship. They beat the world champion Jets and then beat the Raiders who had beat them twice during the season. The Vikings had an awesome defense, one of the best in NFL history, but their offense could only produce 7 points in a 23-7 loss to the Chiefs in Super Bowl IV.

The 2005 Steelers defied no odds. They were coming off a 15-1 season the year prior, dropped a few games because Ben was injured, and finished 11-5 which is usually good enough to win a division and get a 3 or 4 seed but lost a tie breaker to Cincy. That team was good and better than people were willing to credit them for. But they actually almost choked away the Super Bowl and got bailed out by the refs.

Just goes to show you that it is possible for most any team that makes the playoffs to advance to the S.B....that also speaks volumes for the Pats...the facts, stats speak for themselves behind the tandem of coach & Q.B. Billicheck&Brady after a winning season coming up the winningest team in N.F.L.history...9 appearances..6 super bowl wins...only other team to do have 6 is Pittsburgh but did that in 35 yrs.!!

Yeah, but everyone knows that the Patriots received a lot of help from above, and I don't mean god.

18-1 is worse than 28-3. How do you win 17 straight games, be undefeated, and lose to a wildcard team in the most important game of the year. At least the Falcons weren’t favored to win. Pats could’ve had the best record in NFL history but blew it lol.

It's because they were listening into the opponents radios to know their plays ahead of time, later confirmed by the NFL. They said NE knew NYs play that won the game, but their was an apparent audible on the field that beat their coverage. That's why NE kept winning and NY exposed their fowl play. NE always cheats. Isn't this common knowledge at this point?

The 2010 Packers are honestly underrated.
They never trailed by more then 7 the whole year and are the only team in history to do so.
They were the first NFC team to win the Superbowl as a 6th seed Wildcard.
They had to defeat the top 3 seeds in the NFC on the road to advance to the Superbowl.
    3rd seed Philly (Wildcard)
    1st seed Atlanta (Divisional)
2nd seed Chicago (NFC Title Game)
AND defeat the 2nd AFC seed Steelers who had a fierce defense that year and already had immense playoff experience under Tomlin and Ben winning two Superbowls already.
Plus they had tons of playmakers, Rodgers, Finley, Nelson, Jennings, Jones, Woodson, Shields, Nick Collins.
