Reefing since 2010 and I love this thing I've worked in a aquarium store and I also agree t5 led hybrid is the best I will get this as my next reef light.
Man I love reef aquariums and periodically through my adult life tried to keep them long term but always end up having to break them down and sell them. Maybe one day I’ll get a bunch of second hand equipment for cheap and start again. I love marine life so much.
I use 6500k garage LEDs for par boosting and florescent in actinic and 10000k spectrum to colour them up. Cheap as dirt on Amazon corals grow fine under 6500k but look like crap unless you add blue and higher spectrum cut costs on my deep 72 inch long 136g tank though
I'm currently working on a build using a Sun Blaze T5 fixture I got last year for $170 (4ft 6 bulb unit). I put nice ATI bulbs in it of course. Hard to go much cheaper than that.
Viparspectra is doing it for me made my own defuser with photography defuser sheets inorder to dull hot spots...im no scientist just a witty carpenter but its working and only set me back 200 ;) Guess what im getting at if your determination out ways your wallet you booty will find a way ;) Great video yall as always :)
I'm a fan of black boxes and T5. But now planning on complete coverage of every inch of my tank with black boxes, a bit like LANI led panels, providing T5 like coverage, allowing me to run the lights at 30% and no fans. Zero shadowing. Many ways to do it. Radion s would cost me 3-4 grand and would work and look great, but for me $600 job done, even if they last only 5 years a second set still puts me 2-3 grand in front. No cool features though. But radions keep their value for resale, black boxes are like" they are free right" ?
Cheapest way to LIGHT A REEF is SMD 100w chips w/CPU cooler and 1400ma/36v driver . OR hit amazon for a 4-6bulb T5HO Shop light and change the bulbs and still have less then this in lights . Not what i would do but if in a pinch it get the job done .
Is there a cheaper cheaper option I have decided to keep my Mars aquas using my spare so 3 end to end ordered my violet and uv395 and royals gonna change the white channel out weld a alluminium frame make my own t5 hybrid but can't get the t5 aquatic life's any were in UK
Well this video was very good timing. I currently run 2 AI Prime‘s on a 75 gallon, I was going to upgrade to 2 hydra26’s or just add one more prime. But now I’m thinking about this hybrid and just using the two primes that I currently have, any thoughts? Guess bulb replacement and extra heat are some draw backs
i get most of my reefing gears from BRS but i cannot disagree with this setup more. what is cheap or cheapest? that's so subjective. you can qualify the statement by saying the cheapest setup from everything sold by BRS. if you truly want cheapest and achieve coral growth and what-not, then a retrofit t5 and a few black boxes will deliver you the best bang for your bucks. i have also seen t5s combined with LED strip that can grow and color up the corals as good as any other lights (radion/kessil/ai) out there. so yes your mileage may vary but that's true for any lights.
Fair feedback. For the reasons you described I think I might never use the word "cheapest" again. It's not really meant to be used as literal as it is taken. Part of what I was trying to get across here is for the average person the cheapest way is to make sure they get the right thing the first time and don't feel the need to upgrade multiple times. I have been doing this for 15 years, can pull anything off the shelf and this is what I would use on most tanks without a hood. Also happens to be a reasonable cost and upgradeable rather than replaceable. Thanks for the feedback.
I have a 60 gallon fish and live rock only tank but want to get into corals. Do i have to spend 500 to get lights to grow them? Also my aqaurium has a glass top on it so im nkt sure hanging them from the ceiling would work. Any help for a rookie would be appreciated
For corals, lighting is a part of the life support system, so you do need to make sure that you have adequate lighting. Depending on your tank's footprint and the types of corals that you want to keep, it could be as simple as using an AI Prime or two :)
I beg to differ. Maybe this is all true for some coral propagation enthusiast.. but for a general reef tank? One with actual fish and a few inverts? You will need $6 for your LED lamps. Ordinary household lamps. Great Value brand at your local Walfart store. About a buck each. I use six. They are extremely bright, a gorgeous color spectrum, and run warm to the touch. Add ordinary fixtures or make your own using sockets. Whatever. You'll have a stunningly bright, beautiful, actual reef community tank (as opposed to a tank with no fish and only a rainbow of colorful coral)... or, unfortunately, in addition to the coral, the one obligatory yellow tang. I can't stand those fish. For (much) less than $20 you can have lighting under which your marine ecosystem will thrive. I know. Mine is. But then... I have a coral reef community in a 75 gallon tank... not a coral propagation farm in my living room
The AquaticLife hybrid fixture has about 7" of space between the lights. As long as the fixture is less than 7" wide, it'll physically fit. Then all you have to do is mount the fixture to one of their LED brackets and you're good to go.
Here is the best and simple solution that will solve the problem with expensive reef products. Don't get into reefing if you don't like to spend money, yes it's a money pit and time consuming with husbandry. I'm a reefer, I enjoy it when everything is thriving. If you got too cheap, you will get burnt out and you will loose your marine life and quit. Spend $2k into a decent setup is the cheap side of owning and keeping it. Again, be prepare to invest time and money constantly.
Are you insane , 390$ for a cheap ass Chinese light . It’s literally thin metal fixture and a bulb. This is outrageous . Thought this was the cheap option
Caleb Davis I feel like every body is so set on those expensive lights because big businesses say they are the only way to go, not true at all there are way way cheaper options for success

Zeedrich There's a few great lights on Amazon as well, especially for smaller tanks. The hipargero is one off the top of my head. This video also ignores the ocean revive arctic t247, which is a great light for bigger tanks. Only $160, and it has 48 3w LEDs
Lol, no matter how many times I apologize for the approach to that black box video I don't think I will ever live that down. For what it's worth I think this light would pair very well with a black box and achieve most of the benefits I talked about here at a pretty reasonable price :)
@@michaellash4050 they don't sell them because their other product partners would freak out. The reality is, they perform the same, if not better, than a light that costs 5-20 times as much. As long as BRS remains a store, these videos will always be biased in a way.
its false video. do not buy very expensive lights only if you really know what you want because most of us here are beginners, we do not want these high end SPS stuff, you are misleading people

it is just the best of both worlds

One day I will move over to s hybrid fixture... one day. Great info.
T5 retro-fit-kit and a good black-box LED, $250 with bulbs and you can grow anything you want. Done.
If you have a hood that is a solid option. The addition of T5's to the black boxes solves many of the challenges.
Will that 4ft t5 light a 5ft tank?

Just buying the right light will be the best way to go
Thanks, I was thinking about going this way with adding the mixture of lights. A link to the fixture would be nice!
added :)
@@BRStv I just order mine for my project 40 gallons breeder, what kind of specific t5 tubes you need for a 36 inch tank ?
I have a 20x20x20 cube. Will this lightning system be too much for it?
4 T5 bulbs over a 20" cube would be perfect for an SPS tank. You definitely wouldn't need to add in any LED's in that scenario.
Haha! Excellent thumbnail guys!
working on making them more fun :)

$400 isn’t cheap FYI
I was looking for advice, not a sales pitch
Dude can I stick a maxspect razor 200rsx into a hybrid frame

I wanna see the home tank build. See what the best in the business uses.
it's coming to a home near you soon :)
Hi,Any opinions for a 20cm long light, I have a tiny 45 tank, idk what to do
If you have small dimensions I would checkout our small Zetlight options. These are good for small dimension tanks!

The look of the led shimmer isn’t natural. I like led & metal halide hybrid.
only 400, Im not talking expensive, if you doing? You could build a light that’s all I’m saying where is the king of DIY guy?
