I think the most overlooked part of that original sketch is when Michael Palin originally leaves the receptionist and enters the wrong room, getting yelled at, responding "I didn't come for this! I came for an argument!" "Oh, that's room 12B this is 12A..... (and after he leaves) stupid get." lol

When I retired as an opera chorister, my last performance was in the opera La Boheme. While sitting in the house during a rehearsal , I noticed the English translation of the Italian text projected on the proscenium arch above the stage. The final song at my late brothers funeral was this. When he was in the hospice I walked into his room singing this and it made him chuckle so it was the obvious choice to remember him by.
The Piranna Brothers. "Lovely Army base you've got here. It'd be a shame if something happened to it!" Also the Birth sketch in Meaning of Life, where the doctors care more about impressing some bigwig with the expensive equipment they use than caring for the mother and baby.
Love also "the job interview", "the warriors ho say NI", "The bridge of death", "the enchanter", "cheese shop", "selling matresses", "help I'm being repressed", "bring out your death", "we found a witch", "may we leave", "the kilker rabbit", and so many other scketches, Monty Pythons are memorable.
It is indeed brilliant. I've always thought their intellect is why the comedy isn't everyone 's cup of tea. Sure, some is very silly, but most is obviously the work of extremely bright, well-read men. (All men in the troupe, of course. ) Anyway, I loved it way back in the old days and I love it now.
No need to rehash the Dead Parrot sketch. It's a copy, and one of the reasons John Cleese left the show. He felt they were remaking old material. They talked him into a 3rd season (when Cheese Shop appeared), but he left before the 4th season. It also contained half the number of episodes of the previous seasons as a result. Mr. Neutron was probably the only halfway decent sketch in the last season.
I grew up watching Monty Python's Flying Circus in Boston, on PBS channel WSBK. during the 70's. Because of that, my parents assumed that it was perfectly harmless, and because it was an educational channel, wanted no part of viewing it. Thus, we boys got to see Carol Cleveland's bare breasts on local TV, in a Mr. Pither sketch. What the P's never knew about us!
WMEB out of Bangor ME. Python and the 6 part HHGTTG would play on Friday night. Doctor Who and Blakes 7 on Saturday after all the DIY and workshop shows. Lifetime Python fan.
Thanks for this list and many funny moments/sketches I'm sure if I rewatch some of Monty Pythons Flying Circus episodes, some or even lots will pop up that should have made the list (Bicycle repair man?), but the one that comes to mind is in The life of Brian when he has escaped from the Romans and they are chasing him while running up a tower, he falls... into a space ship with aliens that just happens to fly by, they have a rough fly through space, get shot at (by other alien space ships?) and finally he falls out at the exact same place (so he has to run from the Romans again and immediately).
So pleased we have a somebody talking over the brilliant timeless Monty Python skits just in case somebody is so stupid they can't understand what the joke is about.

The Goons pioneered this silly humour. You cant watch the Goons, they were on steam powered radio before television. Lets build a canal across Africa so that the planes won't have to fly around the Cape. But, if the plane crashes into the canal the passengers will drown. Then we will fill the canal with sand.

The final song at my late brothers funeral was this. When he was in the hospice I walked into his room singing this and it made him chuckle so it was the obvious choice to remember him by.
The Fish Slapping Dance is my Fave
It's great. It's just too short. ;-)
Thank you for this program. We will never again see this level of raw true comedy genius. Be well.
Cheese shop, bicycle repairman, fish slapping dance ,so many others . Best show ever. Well, maybe except SCTV .
The Piranna Brothers. "Lovely Army base you've got here. It'd be a shame if something happened to it!"
Also the Birth sketch in Meaning of Life, where the doctors care more about impressing some bigwig with the expensive equipment they use than caring for the mother and baby.
This parrot is no more . It has gone to meet its Maker.
He's f**kin snuffed it!
It's a stiff! Bereft of life, he rests in peace!
My son's name is Tim, I got him the t-shirt with "there are some who call me ... Tim?" on it.
They're all great but you failed to include the brilliant 'Galaxy Song'.
Can we have your liver then?
It is indeed brilliant. I've always thought their intellect is why the comedy isn't everyone 's cup of tea. Sure, some is very silly, but most is obviously the work of extremely bright, well-read men. (All men in the troupe, of course. ) Anyway, I loved it way back in the old days and I love it now.
The cheese shop is funnier than the lumberjack song. I’m really surprised that song made the top 20
Two old ladies on a park bench. "What is that?" "It's a piston engine." "Well how do you cook it?"
Too bad the "fish slapping dance" wasn't included. It was hilarious.
What? No Cheese Shop sketch. This is an outrage!
We have rat tarts, rat pudding and strawberry tarts...with a little bit of rat in it.
BLOODY FUNNY i wish they were back to make us laugh they were absolutely fantastic ❤❤❤❤❤
Wasn't expecting number 6!
NOBODY EXPECTS NUMBER 6!!!!
Fish slap dance: completely out of the box, with a surprising end
Protection racket on the British army was my favourite.
So pleased we have a somebody talking over the brilliant timeless Monty Python skits just in case somebody is so stupid they can't understand what the joke is about.
"We used to dream of a hole in the ground!"
Luxury!
I always loved one of their later sketches. The one in Australia where everyone is named Bruce!
Biggus Dickus should be much higher
Thats what she said!
Yes!
I used to sneak into my older sisters room so I could watch Monty Python Flying Circus. Most of the shorts you picked were memorable favorites! Thank you for this.
I love the lifeboat cannibals
The best comedy troop ever, one of the greatest sketches was the life of an English broker from breakfast to the office, my GF at the time totally lost it over the office scene,. Totally classic comedy we will never see again. 😂
And? Best comedy troupe!
I'm really shocked that the Every Sperm is Sacred musical skit didn't make #1.
So funny can’t stop laughing and it’s just the clips simply the best
The one you didn't mention: The Vorpal Bunny!
One of my favs. was the Bring Out Your Dead bit. Something I came back to during COVID-19 as a possible employment opportunity.
compiling this video.... "so john cleese then?" 😂
The Goons pioneered this silly humour. You cant watch the Goons, they were on steam powered radio before television. It would be a good idea to have the scripts while you listen to the genius of Spike Milligan. "Why are you wearing a boot on your head?" "Because it fits sir".
Lets build a canal across Africa so that the planes won't have to fly around the Cape. But, if the plane crashes into the canal the passengers will drown. Then we will fill the canal with sand.
I am old enough to remember the goons. Prince Charles was a huge fan and I think did a skit with them
The Killer Cars “Thanks to atomic mutation…” the cat to eat the cars.
Disndale!
The police station where each has to yell, scream, talk in bass voice, to get a message across.
Aaaaaaaah, Carol Cleveland. I was a young teenage boy when I was watching MP, and remember crushing on her.
What about the Holy handgrenade, or the questions to cross the bridge (African or European), or how to prove they are witches (what floats.... A duck)
Never gets old!😂 Laugh out loud every time, no matter how many I’ve watched these!
12:45 And everyone had a sense of humor.
Generally speaking I avoid Spam, however, If I was in London and passed by that lovely luncheonette I would certainly order the Spam, Spam, Spam, Spam, baked beans, eggs, Spam & Spam !
( .......and hope that the baked beans aren't off !!! )
First 2 items on the menu contain no Spam.
and I did not notice until watching this video..strange.
The Black Knight sketch STILL makes me crack up every time I see it! 🍸
What does my email mostly consist of? Spam, spam, spam, spam...
Whenever I want to crack up my ex all I have to do is say "He has a wife, you know!" and he loses it!! I'm also partial to the Argument Sketch and "It was the Salmon Mousse!". I was in the Drama Club in high school in the 80s and we were always pilfering Monty Python sketches and performing them for the other students. My favourite was Down In Dingley Dell. I was the storytime presenter! "...with a melon?!?!"🤣🤣🤣
Shame the ‘cheese shop’ sketch missed out. 😢
We're out of cheese...😁
The Life of Brian is brilliant in its entirety!
ALBATROSS!
"Do you get wafers with it?"
@caseymacmacl7463 of course not it's bloody sea bird! ALBATROSS!
@@caseymacmacl7463 "course you don't get F***ing waffers with it"
One of my favorites (or favourites if you prefer) is the Bridge of Death over the Gorge of Eternal Peril. "What is the airspeed velocity of an unladen swallow?"
Fish slapping!
Definitely should have been in this list
@@elliottprice6084 Right! I mean so many good ones but that was ridiculous silly funny!
@@segreen1046 when you watch the fish slap dance, it's so silly it shouldn't be funny, but it's rib snappingly hilarious 😂
