  • This video will show you how to remove the airbag from a Renault Clio, how to remove the steering wheel and how to remove the clock spring. The ultimate dad-mobile has let me down again. I believe the clock spring snapped causing the airbag lights to come on, time to replace it!
    If you fancy having a go at fixing your own car, I highly recommend locating your local scrapyard and sourcing a second-hand OEM part rather than low quality parts found on marketplace websites.

    This is BRILLIANT! I like how you didn't know what you were doing but by simply trying and following basic mechanical theory it is working again. My wife would be terrified at the thought of trying something like this. (it is dangerous working with airbags too)

    Hi mate, I scanned my renault clio 2013 and I got this main error Dtc80df1b, my airbag lights are on (they suddenly one day just turned on), do you thing this could be my issue? Thanks in advance.

    Great video, had to do this when I first bought my car to get it through the mot. Getting that clip to release was definitely the hardest part, what a bitch. Need to replace my wiper/light stalks so was just refreshing my memory.

      You do not need to remove steering to replace stalks, save you your hands and fingers!

    great how too, I have the same problem with the horn and also the cheap eBay one makes a noise when you turn the steering wheel, I have asked the seller for a replacement but I'm guessing it will still have the same issue, I might look for a scrap yard one..

      Yeah the eBay jobby was noisy as well... cheap plastic. Scrapyard or find someone breaking a car on eBay 👍

      I went to a breakers yard for an OEM part because the eBay one did not work and was poor quality 👍

    Found this on one of the forum. Have same problem. Could you help.
    “I damaged the clockspring (angle sensor) when I had the steering rack off and turned the steering wheel - I know.
    Anyway, it threw up the ASR/ESP fault so I bought a new angle sensor, fitted it today, and still the same warnings on the dash.
    I have driven the car up the road, turned from lock to lock etc and I can't get it to re-set.
    Dashboard says 'check steering' when I'm driving, also get the flashing spanner of doom.
    The ABS still works, and I'm now out of ideas.
    I've checked all the fuses next to the battery too.
    Lastly I've got a CARLY OBD scanner, so I've plugged that in to clear all the fault codes but I'm still getting the same fault coming back.
    What have I missed? Really greatful for any advice, thanks.”

      “There is a white marker on the clock spring to show that the clock spring is centered I had problems with the new genuine steering rack was not allowing the steering wheel to sit straight you center the steering rack then use the adjustment of the track rod ends to get the road wheels straight. Double check the turns from center to full left and the to full right are equal but don't snap the spring again doing that. Your problem is is it center plus one revolution and which way”

      Was the clockspring they bought brand new OEM? Or salvage / aftermarket.
      My problem was buying an aftermarket clockspring, only an OEM part fixed the problem.

      I went same way because of your video. Now I am going scrapyard too hahha
