Real swords are not made of stainless steel. Stainless steel doesn't rust, but also doesn't get very hard during heat treatment. Which means they cannot hold an edge. Whereas carbon steel gets rust but can get quite hard and hold and edge. I have been to made of the shops in Amritsar but didn't find a single shop selling real swords. They all have the same design, very uncomfortable handle, horrible weight balance. Talwar is supposed to be nimple. These feel like an axe while holding, very front heavy.
@Bikramdeep Singh I went to a genuine sword shop where I talked to a nihang. He came to collect his generations old woots steel Talwar after maintainance. Not sure if the shop actually makes swords or simply maintains old ones.

Indian kings stopped purchasing local swords a long time ago and imported european ones because they were cheaper. Indians used to use the sword blade and fit our Indian style Hilts. So the indigenous way of making high quality wootz swords was already on the decline for several hundred years before swords became obsolete. there are definitely some people left I'm sure who made real swords. But these shops only sell souvenirs.
