- Today, I have the sE X1 A Condenser Microphone in the Audio Hotline Studio! I will take you through what comes in the box, the features, specs and I will do a ton of tests to help you determine your own opinion on the sE X1 A mic. As usual, I do also provide a blind comparison in this video... However, this comparison is HUGE!!! This review will include a comparison of all these mics:
sE X1 A (of course)
Audio-Technica AT2020
Neat Worker Bee II
Behringer / Tannoy TM1
MXL 770
MXL 990
MXL 2006
Lewitt LCT 240 Pro
RØDE NT1 (as the "more expensive" option)
A lot of these microphones are similar in price. I wanted to include as many as possible since this is a popular price tag for a lot of people's first condenser mic. Hopefully this can help you pick the right one for you!
Every person has different expectations of audio gear. If the features are what you need, and you like the sound, then it is right for you!
Thanks for watching the Audio Hotline! I'll see you Audio Nerds next time!
IF YOU WANT ANY ADDITIONAL TESTS DONE WITH ANY OF THESE MICS:
COMMENT BELOW or EMAIL audiohotline@gmail.com and I will do my best to test it out for you.

Thanks for doing this. Extremely detailed review
Great review man. It sounds very good.
I like sE Electronics microphones very much. I think the signal is cleaner than from the AT2020 or MXL770 for instance. But it is my least liked sE. I love it on some instruments though. For voice over the sE X1 S is definitely better, as is the sE 2200 (in all incarnations).
Keep making these videos!
sE X1 S is amazing. Looks really good too.
It really sounds really good for the price
I think it sounds better than you rated it. I think it's more sophisticated sounding than most of the 99.00 mics in this test.
Very good video thanks.
Can you compare the Se X1A and the Se X1S please? I have the X1S, and it has a bigger capsule ( "hand crafted 1" true condenser capsule") and slightly different specs. Just wondering if there are significant differences in sound? Thanks.
sE X1 A Condenser sounds good but what about sE X1 S? btw you provide the most thorough microphone reviews anywhere. Really appreciate your dedication.
I've had this mic for many years, bought it as a college student and travelled some with it. It's built like a tank
It’s crazy how you can most always pick the Rode NT1 out of the blind comparisons. Even listening on car speakers I could recognize the Rode.
Back when I was shopping for my first real mic this (or maybe the S model?) was on the short list. I ended up with a King Bee.
do you planning to review se electronics dynacaster ? it seems like a good one
There's a road nearby my home . Does this mic reduce the sound from the road vehicles pass by ??
All those mics sound sooo similar I had a hard time liking any of those in a blind test. I liked the Tannoy/Behringer only and barely gave an NT1 a pass.
Nice!
I have an sE X1 A bought it because it was on sale. I don't really like it that much it sounds too harsh and sibilant for my voice even though I love high end focused mics a lot and boost my high ends on an eq quite a lot. I always loved Neat's Bee microphones and wanted to buy one but it was not available in my country. Also I hate x1 A's plastic grill around the capsule, it just feels like it's gonna snap or break even if I only press it lightly.
30 seconds ago! Mic sounds good.
KPT is all you need to do! 🐱
Will you review at4040 mic...??
Mk4 vs at4040 vs lct 440 pure which is best??
@test 4040 sounds phenomenal on high vocals aswel. But out of all 3 mics it’s the 4040 that would be most versatile and also giving you the highest quality.
I prefer it without a shockmount because they're impractical, especially if you want to use the mic for more than vocals. Really, every condenser would benefit to have both types included, but if I had to choose one, I'd go with the mic clip every time.
This mic is good for baritone, but a bit harsh for a tenor (your type of voice).
Se X1 a, nahh
I prefer sexia
PICKLED PEANUTES LMAO
I have to disagree with you, sorry. I really love this microphone. Sounds spectacular and bright. The hype seems to be genuine, as far as I can see and hear.
I was kind of confused about your comment because I thought “ I remember liking that microphone.” So I actually rewatched the review section. For whatever reason I did come off a bit more negative than my “grade” suggests. According to my new rating system, this would have an 8/10 “Very Strong Buy” rating. So I don’t feel like we are too far off.
@@AudioHotline Please don't take my feedback negatively. I truly appreciate the extensive review that you made, and thoroughly enjoyed your review.
Thank you! I was mostly second guessing myself because in my mind I liked the SE X1A, so I was curious if I was misremembering… also I recommended it to someone recently and was like “wait, did I mess up?” 🤣
Thanks for watching!
@@AudioHotline you were all OK! Such memory gaps feel funny too 🤣 Keep making such wonderful in-depth reviews. I appreciate your hard work.
You could have pickled anything 😭😭
Peanutses are definitely the funnest to pickle though!
This mic has been discontinued.
I am pretty sure the original X1, as well as the X1 T, X1 D, and X1 USB have been discontinued, but the X1 A (this review) and X1 S are not discontinued.
