    Fascinating history. I was researching some medieval jewelry patterns recently, trying to decide on a pendant I was making for my daughter-in-law, and came across a gorgeous carnelian, pearl, gold and bronze necklace found in eastern Europe. It was to die for! Thanks again for adding to our gem knowledge, Fire Mountain!

    Can Amethyst and Carnelian be worn together? Please advice. Thank you.

    • @FireMountainGems

      They can absolutely be worn together! There are some older jewelry myths out there about not combining the two, but today there are a lot of people purposely combining the two stones. Plus the purple and orange can create such a beautiful aesthetic!

      It's up to you which gemstones you wear together. There really isn't a right or wrong. 🙂

    what’s difference between agates & carnelian?

    • @FireMountainGems
      @FireMountainGems  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      They are both varieties of chalcedony, so when comparing carnelian with red agate specifically, they can be very similar. The main difference is that agates have layers of colored banding throughout the stone, while carnelian does not typically have any banding. You can find more information about these and other stones on our website: www.firemountaingems.com/resources/gemstones

      Carnelian is a variety of Agate which refers to a type of Chalcedony. There are two types of Chalcedony: (1) Agate, which refers to transluscent Chalcedony; and (2) Jasper, which refers to opaque Chalcedony. Carnelian refers to red or orange colored Agate, while Sard refers to maroon or brown colored Agate. Since most Agates are banded, people started to use the term Carnelian or Sard to refer, specifically, to non-banded red or brown Agate respectively. While banded Carnelians were called either Carnelian Agate or Red Agate. There are also two types of banded Agate: (1) curved and (2) parallel. The former refer to Agate generally, while the latter refer specifically to Onyx. Because of this, people started to consider Onyx a separate category from Agate. Sardonyx is a combination of both Onyx and Sard.

    But how to find real Carnelian?
    Almost all used in jewelry like bracelet are heat treated, most likely Agates and Sardonyx selled as Carnelian.

    • @FireMountainGems
      @FireMountainGems  ปีที่แล้ว

      We're not sure what you mean by "real Carnelian". The carnelian we offer is actual carnelian. Gemstones are often treated to enhance the color, durability and/or other features of the stone to make them more suitable for normal jewelry use.
