it would have been interesting to see before-clean and after-clean photos of the same subject in the same lighting conditions so as to decide if that fungus was in fact affecting the photographic quality.
Yeah, front is easy. Rear elements are encapsulated in plastic, 2 glasses in one plastic capsule and I have no idea how to pop them out without damaging.
Hello, got that for another lens. Had to damage the plastic (gently using a scalpel and magnifying glass) clean and the re-glue the lens in position. Cheers.
@@andyboa8107 Not on this lens, but i cut the plastic around one of the lenses, like in this one th-cam.com/video/qFfH3-gp2y0/w-d-xo.html, or this one th-cam.com/video/6jiIuf1Siso/w-d-xo.html. Cheers.
That's surprising, Getting that part loose is not easy feat as far as I remember. Anyway, I have one of those that needs a full overhaul, so if you're willing to wait. I'll try to show how to fix that. Cheers.
using your method I've just cleaned a copy of this lens that I bought second hand recently and had fungus - result: front element totally clean! but I can see the back of the lens has fungus too so I'll have to return it
The only thing I can think about is that the guiding is probably a bit wore at 28mm position, had the same issue with an 80-200 f/2.8D, after opening the lens and forcing just a bit, the problem went away.
У меня грибок на линзах близко к диафрагме с обеих сторон( перед ней и за ней). Как дальше разобрать объктив, чтобы добраться до грибка? Спасибо за видео!
Thanks. I finally clean it after try to remove a top ring. It's very easy to take lens off. But not easy to clean. Actually if I have Ether: Methanal (80:20) it work good, it's use in production line. Any other way to clean is use len's cleaning paper with your index finger+a little alcohol swirl from center to outer. Then finishing with Lens Pen.

I'll think of that in the future, however, I made that for haze, check the results on this video th-cam.com/video/LJuwI4x6Cpg/w-d-xo.html

@@diyextravaganza OK, did you cut the plastic it in the middle? Did you stick it back together with adhesive tape?

That's a risk, I have still a copy that needs full disassembly. Coming soon. Cheers.
@@diyextravaganza I got a lens like that, but the focus ring came loose now it doesn't focus at infinity!

Thanks, have a nice day !
My Nikon 28-105 (which is identical to this one), does not have that small screw in the front. How do I open the front of the lens then?
Can you share a picture, I've opened a few dozens of these and never encountered the issue. Cheers.

Oh too bad. I have one more waiting for full repair. Video coming soon. Cheers.
I have that lens in mint condition, unfortunately sometimes the zoom seems to stuck at 28mm and if I add some extra force it unstucks, any idea?

Can you please tell us the size of the tool that you used to remove the front screw?
If I remember correctly, it is a flat screwdriver of 1.2mm. cheers.

I'm planning to make a video on the full disassembly of this lens, coming soon !
nice thanks I have had that same cleaning pen for 20 years.
They are very useful :)
Are they Good for everyday photography including portraits?
Aperture is probably a bit small for portraits, but it's a great lens for everyday photography !
@@diyextravaganza in your opinion is good 28-85mm for portraits, apart 50mm or 28-70mm, thank you
@@voNashemaalo I don't know, I have never used it
What if the fungus is on the back side of the middle lens ?
It needs to be disassembled and cleaned then. Cheers.
@@diyextravaganza yea but how?front element seems fairly easy to do but what about the other parts

You're spot on, great job !
Which liquids do you nuns to clean the glass?
Hama HTMC, otherwise, you can use isopropyl alcohol with 3% oxygenated water.
