    Calculating the resistor value you pointed out the values of the voltage in (8v) and the voltage value of the led (2.2v). But in the calculation both are irrelevant. How do you know (or better said, how you calculate the voltage output of the lm317 for a led) Ex: 12v in 6.5v for the led at 0.4 mA. Could you elaborate in how to get the 6.5v from the lm317 and the resistor value in order to output 0.4mA? Thanks for your attention.

    Hi, awesome video!
    I am wondering how did you manage to simulate the LM317 in LTSpice? I cannot find the component in the inventory and have difficulty to get an imported version to work...

    Hi,
    Good presentation. Two questions I hope you may be able to answer: 1. What is the maximum voltage out of such a circuit under light to no-load conditions. i.e. is it Vin, Vin-1.25 or Vin-1.25-Some additional voltage drop? If the last is true, what would such an “additional drop” be? (You may figure correctly that the question relates to use of same circuit for current limiting as opposed to a constant current source)
    2. Did you create your own LM317 model for LTSPICE?

    • @FoolishEngineer
      @FoolishEngineer  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      1. 1.25V drop is of LM317 itself
      2. you can find its spice model on onsemi, TI or STM's website

    I want to design circuit for convert 12Vdc to 2Vdc 50A with adjustable current using Potentiometer.
    This circuit continues running for 1-4hour in each day.
    But I haven't knowledge of electronic circuit.
    Can you guide me how to design circuit, please.
    I try to learn many circuit design on youtube for a few week, but that can not bring to apply to my requirement.
    All circuit I learn, It not support height current with low voltage.
    I can not see the advantage + disadvantage of using MOSFET VS LM317 VS TL494cCN

    hi there. i want to limit and vary the current of a 24V/1A power adapter between 2mA and 12mA, using a LM317, 1k ohm pot and a 1k ohm resistor. would that work or is it better I get a 2k ohm pot?

    Upto how much current
    We can use this

    • @FoolishEngineer
      @FoolishEngineer  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Instead of current our logic should be power dissipation. We should dissipate more than 300-350mW power through the LM317. So according to calculations, if you have more number loads you can use this for higher current and if you have less number of loads you should limit up to lower currents.

    • @electroquests

      As much as LM317 is capable of, but the problem would be derating as temperature would increase. So we need to consider that as well.
