NYC in the late 80's was a serious high point in popular culture. Several genres of underground music were percolating up to the surface, hip hop, house, punk and mixtures there of... it was an age of wonder. The radio was a lot more unpredictable back then as well, not today's timid drivel.
agreed, i wrote that a while ago, i probably meant to write "early 80's" which would cover the late 70's for sure, by late 80's i would say the underground had peeped above ground only to be steamrolled by viacom/clear channel grey blandness in the early 90's...
