    I get hassled every single time I try to warranty tools at home depot or lowes. It's just poorly trained employees and managers. They don't even know their own policies.

      Very well said Alton, I suggest trying a different Home Depot see if the staff is trained any better. That’s what I did I went to a Home Depot in a nicer area and they didn’t give me any trouble at all.

    That should not have happened. I work at a HD in CA. That exact thing happened at my store a couple of days ago and a cashier asked me what to do. I told her the customer needs to grab the equivalent tool off the floor and we'll swap it out. If for whatever reason the system won't let you, call a manager so they can do an override. So yeah, it's a training issue.

    Common problem. I just had the exact thing happen to me at my local HD store. I too called Husky (Apex Tool Group) and the lady told me HD should replace for free no questions asked or receipt needed. HD even has a video on their webpage stating this. They definitely need to do a better job training managers and employees on this issue.

    I had the EXACT same problem at Walmart trying to exchange a defective Walmart branded car battery during the free exchange period. A 2-year battery went bad only a few months in. The returns desk told me I had to drive to the Walmart auto center an hour away to get the battery tested. That was NOT what the label said. "If it fails within a year, return to ANY Walmart store for free replacement". Printed clearly on the label. So I called the 800# printed on the label. The operator at the battery manufacturer (Johnson Battery) told the clerk and her manager, JUST GIVE HIM A NEW BATTERY, and do a standard RTV-Return To Vendor on the bad battery. The store manager refused and argued with the battery rep on the phone for 10 or 15 minutes. Finally, we realized that store didn't even have the unit in stock. I went to the Walmart in the next town. They scanned the bar code and told me to grab a new battery off the shelf. No hassle at the second store. Sometimes people that hate their jobs feel that everyone should be miserable.

    • @S4R1
      @S4R1  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That was exactly my experience as well. Some employees just go above and beyond to make things hard. It’s not like they’re paying for the replacement out of their pocket.

    • @Kewrock
      @Kewrock 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@850are2 The batteries have round stickers the size of a dime with the month and year they were made. Walmart sells so many batteries, that sticker is never more than a month old. Walmart also scans the serial number barcode into the system when it's sold. That starts the warranty ticking. So they know when the unit was made and when it was sold. At auto parts stores, batteries lay on the shelves for 6 or 8 months.

      I hope I can try a Home Depot in a better area. I ran into same thing today trying to get a ratchet swapped out. I’ve had it for maybe 5 years or so maybe more but it just locked up and now won’t ratchet or switch directions. First time I had this problem I walked into that same store and within 15mins I had the new ratchet and driving off, trouble free. This time the lady was saying it had to be registered or I needed a recite…. Or even the credit card I used. And well back then I used cash for most my stuff! I bought and sold car parts so I kept cash on me a lot!
      I was almost tempted to buy a new ratchet set and then come right back with that recite and then return the set. Long as I got the recite right lady :( like why aren’t these warranties like they used to be! Like I have the original tool!!!!! I’m not claiming I had the tool and it shattered into freaking dust and I don’t have it anymore….. like hell back in the day craftsman store you could take a tool right in and they would swap the ratchet section. Right out and give it back to you in great working order again! Hell my craftsman store if they was busy they would give me a second kit if I could do it myself at home and I did that many times myself. :( like it’s a tiny piece of metal with gears…. It’s not rocket science! The machine cuts these out in minutes all day long! :( shouldn’t be that hard

    Definitely a service issue. Miscommunication and lack of training still happens at Harbor Freight; However, it's wayyyyy easier to correct with less than 6 cashiers per store. Especially when the supervisor/manager on duty is quick to assist if their one cashier gets tied up with a return issue.
    Meanwhile Home Depot's run on over 100 employees per store, and I imagine with higher turnover too. And the 3 or 4 managers are stretched much thinner.

    When I read the headline, I'm like I'm watching this . Been kicked out of a few places in my day . I had a good experience at lowes exchanging an old broken craftsman ratchet. I even got the upgraded version . I think it all depends on the store and the employee you deal with . For instance I bought a bike at Walmart, the front forks were bent and the seat was missing. The original employee would not exchange it , because it was missing a part . Got the manager over and all was good .

    The employee is completely wrong. You don't need the receipt, and you are not required to call up corporate. You go to the store, pull the replacements off the shelf and go to customer service to do the exchange. I just did this about a week or so ago. The sockets were rusty, I tried to clean them to save them (someone gave them to me) and the store did it with no issue.
    I'd try another HD store, as obvious the first one doesn't know the policy.

    The problem I have with Husky, is not so much their "Lifetime Warranty" as so much their other equipment warranty that's not lifetime, which is okay and understandable.
    If you buy let's say an air compressor with a two or three year warranty and it breaks down during this period you are screwed unless you have an actual receipt from your purchase.
    There is no way to register your product online so that everyone has a record on file that will show what you bought, when you bought it, where you bought it and for how much.
    Most other manufacturers have this on their website where you can also upload a picture of your purchase receipt as prove.
    I think this was not an oversight it is that way on purpose because Husky knows that people will lose or misplace their receipts. This is good news for them as for those products they really do not have to honor any faulty equipment that falls within the limited warranty period.
    Be warned, if you do buy any Husky equipment with a limited warranty, make sure you keep it in a safe place and remember where you left it.

    I just had the same thing happen at the HIlo, Hawaii Home Depot. No receipt on your lifetime warranted tool? Tough luck! Deal with "the manufacturer." I should have demanded to see the manager, but I left. The only other Home Depot on the island is 90 minutes away, so I guess I'll call the Husky warranty line and see what they suggest. This could be the end of my long and expensive relationship with Home Depot. How does Lowe's treat their customers on warranties, I wonder?

    • @hilohaw
      @hilohaw 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Update: I called the Husky warranty line. The representative apologized, said I should not have needed a receipt, and the store should have given me a new tool. The representative then took my information and sent me a gift certificate to more than cover the cost of a new tool. So it seems it's the individual stores and store employees with the problem, not the Husky/Home Depot tools policy.
