This whole movie is a gem. When they lose control of the car and they are sitting on Del's trunk to pull them selves together with their back to the car. The "Whoosh" from the car going up in flames and you see the fire lighting up their backs. Man that is funny.
It's great, but the "Being picked up by your nuts" scene had us literally crying in the theater when we first saw it. We missed the entire car discussion that came after because we were GONE! laughcrying and could not hear or respond for several minutes.
I can confirm, I watched this movie once and have been horribly incontinent ever since. My entire bladder expels its contents if I cough or laugh too hard. I will never forgive John Candy and Steve Martin for what they did to me.

I never realized until years later that Dylan Baker portraying the oddball Owen also portrayed the "so particular" Alexander Rance in the movie the road to perdition (2002).
Great movie, and Owen's truck reminds me of my Dad. He drove a '69 C-10 and it was the first automobile I ever rode in. Too bad he traded it before I learned to drive at age 13.

One of my favorite lines of any movie ever! What’s funny is that we had six kids in six years. The second one came out sideways, she didn’t scream or nothing.
The way they filmed Dylan Baker's introduction made it seem like he was going to be a major character. But nope, he's only in this one scene and he still kills it.

The guy who played Owen was PERFECT. The mannerisms, the look, the voice, the clothes, all spot on. Growing up on a dairy farm and surrounded by other dairy farmers, there are people just like that. Very rough around the edges, but they're hard working, good people and under-appreciated.

I used to have a VHS (remember those?) of this film that we recorded off television (remember when we did that?)- albeit a rather censored version, because they had cut out all the F-words that Neal uses at the receptionist after failing to find the car he wanted to hire, to make it transmittable at the time it had originally aired when we taped it. I watched it many times as a child, but this is the one scene where my mother always insisted on walking out of the room and making me tell her when it was "safe" for her to come back into it, because she was so repulsed by this Owen character. Such memories!
And it's probably precisely because I've always had my eyes instinctively on Owen due to what I've just described that I've only, this instant, on watching this very clip, noticed Neal's look of horror at 2:24-2:27 over the idea of a baby "coming out sideways."
@@frankcampbell4144 I never really thought of it that way, but you're probably right. I again really loved this film. It was so funny and perfectly over the top. Like this scene, too. Not just when Steve Martin got mad but overly to the Car Rental Sales lady played by Edie McClurg who's such a very funny and great character actress to me, too.
