    I had a 75 Buick Electra Limited with the 455 and had the terrible compression this was around 2012, I had the motor reworked to make it more in line with a 70, and believe it or not A Guy from Saudi Arabia called me about it and wanted to buy it and ship it to Saudi Arabia, he offered me a price I could not refuse. I really hope you put her back on the road, I drove mine for 2 years and I have never owned a car that rode so smooth, had such power, was so long and weighed so much. My favorite part was in the back seats in the armrests were ashtrays AND lighters, Pure luxury for 1975.. I miss her immensely and am looking for another

    It's good to hear that some people are aware of how great Buicks really are. Their engines were torque monsters and very reliable. Buicks just gave you more bang for the buck.

    IM 63 and i started driving on a three on the tree ford pu at nine, had a learners permit at 14 and a drivers lic the day i turned 16. Started selling cars in 81 and soon learned that you made more money in your driveway than on commission for a dealer. I'd get the newpaper at one in the morning and find a few prospects that seemed like a deal. Im not a mechanic but I just learned to fix things as I found them , with old Clymer manuals or asking at the wrecking yard. Back in the day these cars were so cheap I bought and sold a 69 Camaro 4sp, 68 Firebird, 66 Malibu , 67 Chevelle, 73 Monte Carlo 454, 81 Z28 4sp, and so on and so on , all my friends in HIgh school had amazing cars cuz they were so cheap , there was a 70 Impala SS 427 in our high sch, a 70 Cuda 383 4sp etc etc etc muscle cars everywhere. This was my hobby my fun and income as well I'd buy a car with a few problems , figure out how to fix it , change all the fluids detail it and sell it.
    Damn I wish I'd kept one , I drove a 57 Chev 210 2dr post to grade 12 . Never had the money to keep one I just kept flipping them . so I love these videos brings back so many memories. My buddy had a bone stock 76 Transam 400 that would wrap the speedo around past the 120 to an estimated 140 mph. The tales I could tell. EVen stole a 58 Corvette 327 4sp one night , long story , I couldnt resist driving it , I had to drive it so I frikkin stole it. I "borrowed " a 308 GTI out of our dealership one night they left the keys in it, big mistake. never got it out of second gear , it was nuts.

      That is awesome man 🤘. I am new to the full size cars; I grew up owning the a bunch of A70 Supras, but I always wanted to get a muscle car. Earlier this year, I took home a 1963 Cadillac Coupe Deville, and after taking that on a 12-13 hr road trip, I was incredibly impressed with how it performed. It was like a well built bass boat, not like the modern boring land yachts. I am looking forward to making this my family road trip car. I really do enjoy all kinds of cars, from muscle to imports, but the older I get, the more comfortable performance impresses me.

    Without delay, clean and protect the latches etc for the fender skirts. They *will* get very crusty and need it, (Also take wheels off and look first from behind. Rust may be all that holds them on.) (Also, yeah, grey primer under the little pockmarks is a dead giveaway that's not a factory paint job, even if that copper-bronze is a real color from then. The color they painted over with is also a real color, probably what was fresh then. ) (And unless you happen to find quality wheel covers you can polish, find some decent wire wheels or something. That'd be period for a lot of styles. Also chrome steelies, especially smoothies with Baby Moons, might be better than trying to hunt down the correct blandness anyway. :)

    In the past I drag raced buicks you can check but if memory serves you can take the heads off a buick 430. they have the same casting numbers as the 455 gs stage 1 heads just have to pocket port around the valves and change to the stage 1 valves. these heads have very small conbuston chambers.

    • @LunarOutlawsGarage
      @LunarOutlawsGarage  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can use the 430 heads but you have to block the oil from feeding through the rocker assembly. The 430 on a 71 or newer for 55 would be a great swap but in 1970 the valves and combustion chambers are the same as the 430. You’re better off increasing the size of the valves and doing a port job on a 70 head. It must’ve been a lot of fun drag racing Buicks they can be monster.

    Why don't you fix what little rust there is and put a new vinyl top back on? That will reduce your work load by a lot. In order to weld the holes on the roof, you are going to have to remove the head liner which means buying a new one. I would avoid all of that.

    • @66skate
      @66skate ปีที่แล้ว +1

      As much hassle vinyl tops are, they just look right on cars of that age. At least the roof was painted and not too bad under the vinyl. Chrysler didn't paint the roofs on theirs. An Imperial of that era usually has serious rust at both the windshield and rear glass areas that require quite a bit of work to fix.

    I came here to tell you that the Buick in the junkyard is a Lesabre but I see that you have been well schooled on that already! The other thing is that all of the body and paint work that you're saying is poor workmanship is probably forty years old! As far as the filler cracking out of the left rear quarter panel it may have been hit from the backside by stuff in the trunk to loosen it up and let the moisture in and cause it to rust and crack out, The glue on moulding that is peeling off of the car isn't factory installed, It's either dealer or the owner installed it, That moulding comes in rolls and you cut it to length for each panel as you install it, I haven't bought any for a long time but you can probably still get it somewhere, I always got it at the local body shop supply store like Sherwin Williams or PPG. Another thing that the dealers and body shops did that was popular back in the day was pin striping. It came in 150 foot rolls, the most popular size was 1/8 paired with 1/16 with 1/8 margin between them, Back to the condition of the car, It was in the worst possible place to be parked for all of that time! Short of being underwater! Pine sap and pine needles fill every crack and crevice and they will eat a car apart! So far it looks like you really lucked out! If the frame is solid and the body mounts are still good your golden, The first mounts to go was always the ones right behind the rear wheels, The mount and trunk floor would rot away but but it's easy enough to build it back in as you can access it from underneath and inside the trunk. Since you have researched the Buick 455 so much I assume that you know you have in your possession the engine known as the ''Hemi Killer''! The only difference is you don't have the Stage one heads, But the heads you have are the same casting! Just bigger valves and ports and you seem to love porting heads and I'm sure you know of a shop with the capability to install bigger valves and seats, Or that makes aluminum heads that are even better than the stage ones! Check out Uncle Tony and Dallas' video's on Buick heads tonight! If you haven't already, You'll love it! You are planning to make the Electra your family cruiser, If I was sitting where you are I would plunk the LS down in the Electra and build the GS into a ''Hemi Killer''! I used to have the issue of Muscle Car Review that had the comparison of the Hemi And the 455 and it was epic! Please don't get angry with me for talking to you about doing the GS into an original BEAST of a muscle car, My ex wife and I stumbled into a flame orange with black top and bucket seat interior 1972 Buick GS 350 after being told about a little Buick Special an old lady had for sale when she needed a car! I couldn't believe it! The little old lady had a GS! I bought 3 parts cars and got a tilt column, cruise control, rear defog, posi track, rear stablizer bar with boxed control arms and power windows and put in it and repainted it with base clear eurathane and found a 455 to put in it to complete the package and then lost it and the Monte Carlo I bought and redid for her so the GS would be her nice weather only car in a divorce! To be honest I didn't miss her a bit but I missed the GS! I still had the Electra with the 455 but I got an offer to good to refuse that paid a lot of bills I got stuck with during the divorce! That GS was an awesome car decked out with all of the options I put in it and the 350 was no slouch but it would have been a beast with the 455!

      Oh ya Hemi killer!🤘😎🤘 I was really disappointed when I bought my GS it was badged as stage stage one and he said it was an original air car I couldn’t get the hood open so I trusted the seller. Unfortunately I got hoodwinked. It had an accident an it was very poorly put back together, and the air conditioning was definitely added by someone with tinsnips lol. TA performance has a set of really awesome aluminum heads that would be great. I always appreciate peoples feedback, and constructive criticism so no apology required.

      @@LunarOutlawsGarage I wish i had pictures of the GS My ex and I had! I had loaded it up with all of the options I could find, Buying whole cars to get the options out of them, The car was cool as hell to drive, I was building it right after the Hemi killer article came out so I was obsessed with building one! It made me sick that I had to let her have both of those cars to get the divorce through! She came to me with the clothes on her back and left with the Buick and an almost new Monte Carlo that I bought damaged at the dealership I worked for and rebuilt it into a better looking than new car with the basecoat clearcoat paint cut and buffed to perfection! I got both of hers done and had bought a damaged 78 Grand Prix LJ that was loaded with options, It only had a 301 but it was the smoothest running and driving ''G'' body I ever owned I was building it for me and she got mad because I was building myself a car so she hid the cars, drained the bank account and left! Like I said the Buick GS was the only thing I missed, Then about a year later she got a boyfriend and let him drive the GS and he wrecked it and then dumped her! I just look at yours and it's so close to the one I had and I see ''Hemi killer"" all over again! I know that no matter what you do to it you will do it first class!

    That rear window and roof is tough. You may have to just lay down a coat of epoxy resin to fill in those holes and slather some Bondo on top of it to make it look presentable.

    How did the car get on the trailer backwards? Didn't you back up to where it was to load it? I wish more people would show the loading of the cars on their channels. I like the logistics of it all.
    Also, it is generally a bad idea to load a car backwards unless you secure the doors so they can't open in route.

    cleaning the Buick just need a sip and span and a good steaming cleaning and removing the molding trim and just put pin striping to match it and peeling the vinyl wrap it will can ruin the wrap so just paint the top into a 2 tone paint on the Electra.

I just use that bit to brain storm not to copy. New car lots are a good way to get ideas for color choices.

    People love to talk about modern cars and how great they are. They even lie and say they're more comfortable. People under 40 believe the BS. It's sad.
    I had a convertible Electra. It was like riding down the road on a couch. Just wonderful. Tons of room in the back. No one in those old cars had to worry about their knees hitting the seat in front of them.
    Modern cars ride like they have steel casters. You can't run over a BB without feeling it. They corner with less roll? Who cares? Life isn't a slalom. That old Buick took the bumps for its occupants.
    ABS, air bags, and crumple zones are important. No doubt about it. Other than that, modern cars are a huge step backward.
