===================================
Group 2 saw one of the great World Cup upsets on the first day with the 2-1 victory of Algeria over reigning European Champions West Germany. In the final match in the group, West Germany met Austria in a match later dubbed as the "Disgrace of Gijón". Algeria had already played their final group game the day before, and West Germany and Austria knew that a West German win by 1 or 2 goals would qualify them both, while a larger German victory would qualify Algeria over Austria, and a draw or an Austrian win would eliminate the Germans. After 10 minutes of all-out attack, West Germany scored through a goal by Horst Hrubesch. After the goal was scored, the two teams kicked the ball around aimlessly for the rest of the match. Chants of "Fuera, fuera" ("Out, out") were screamed by the Spanish crowd, while angry Algerian supporters waved banknotes at the players. This performance was widely deplored, even by the German and Austrian fans. One German fan was so upset by his team's display that he burned his German flag in disgust. Algeria protested to FIFA, who ruled that the result be allowed to stand; FIFA introduced a revised qualification system at subsequent World Cups in which the final two games in each group were played simultaneously.
In Group B, a match between England and West Germany ended in a goalless draw. West Germany put the pressure on England in their second match by beating Spain 2-1. The home side drew 0-0 against England, denying Ron Greenwood's team a semi-final place and putting England in the same position as Cameroon, being eliminated without losing a game.
In the game between France and West Germany, the resulting penalty shootout was the first at a World Cup finals. Giresse, Manfred Kaltz, Manuel Amoros, Paul Breitner and Dominique Rocheteau all converted penalties until Uli Stielike was stopped by Ettori, giving France the advantage. But then Schumacher stepped forward, lifted the tearful Stielike from the ground, and saved Didier Six's shot. With Germany handed the lifeline they needed Littbarski converted his penalty, followed by Platini for France, and then Rummenigge for Germany as the tension mounted. France defender Maxime Bossis then had his kick parried by Schumacher who anticipated it, and Hrubesch stepped up to score and send Germany to the World Cup final yet again with a victory on penalties, 5-4.
In the final, Antonio Cabrini fired a penalty wide of goal in the first half. In the second half, Paolo Rossi scored first for the third straight game by heading home Gentile's bouncing cross at close range. Exploiting the situation, Italy scored twice more on quick counter-strikes, all the while capitalising on their defence to hold the Germans. With Gentile and Gaetano Scirea holding the centre, the Italian strikers were free to counter-punch the weakened German defence. Marco Tardelli's shot from the edge of the area beat Schumacher first, and Alessandro Altobelli, the substitute for injured striker Francesco Graziani, made it 3-0 at the end of a solo sprint down the right side by the stand-out winger Bruno Conti. Italy's lead appeared secure, encouraging Italian president Sandro Pertini to wag his finger at the cameras in a playful "not going to catch us now" gesture. In the 83rd minute, Paul Breitner scored for West Germany, but it was only a consolation goal as Italy won 3-1 to claim their first World Cup title in 44 years, and their third in total.

I remember watching the final in a pub in Germany as an 11 year old. I couldn't believe Germany could lose the final! With Rummenigge and Littbarski? How can you lose? Hahaha! I was hooked on this team ever since.
Because Rummenigge was injured, the match against France had cost too much, they were trapped at the airport after the semi final and wrong tactics chosen by Jupp Derwall he should have played more defensive in the final. Second half Italy was still fresh but West-Germany was running out of options. After Italy scored the first goal there was no chance for West-Germany anymore.
Rummenigge my childhood hero! Hard to believe....it's now 40 yrs ago!
And also my childhood hero.
Even though Italy won this cup against tired German team, this world cup will always be remembered by Germany-France semi final. Historic match between the two sides, dramatic moments, ups and downs in the game, top class football and world class 22 players...Germany and France also deserved to win the tournament.
The music is annoying
The 1982 World Cup was, hands down, the best football experience I've witnessed at 14.
There hasn't been anything close to it. The World Cup atmosphere was indescribable. Anyone who has watched it would agree. So many great international players were there.
A lot of it was actually quite boring, especially in the first round.
A Germany that played to win, with a lot of courage And determination Even if it didn't have a flashy game.
Grausige Musik! Das zerstört die ganze Atmosphäre! Sehr schade
Genialer Kommentar...hahahah TOP!
Thieves with Austria, against Algeria.
10:07 Disgraceful match
Imagine Bernd Schuster didn‘t quit the national Team so early and Franz Beckenbauer joined it for one last time. He was in very good condition that time leading HSV football club too the national Championship…
Beckenbauer was not good enough anymore. Even Hieronymus in his own HSV Team bettered him by a mile
In the absence of Bernd Schuster I think that Jupp Derwall made a big mistake by not pushing Uli Stielike into midfield alongside Paul Breitner and Felix Magath. Wilfred Hannes would have done a good job as sweeper in his place.
The only thing you saw from Stielike in the final was a series of fouls and constant bitching.
The best time ever 💓 💖 💕
Germany or West Germany has three times back to back to reach World Cup Final, 1982 n 1986 to be runner up n 1990 won the trophy, bravo Germany🇩🇪🇩🇪🇩🇪
Better title: 1982 World Cup, the scan:-dale of west Germany’s nation team.
Very good team with a gutsy yet flawed campaign. The hurt still lasts 40 yrs on.
Germany 1982 team of shame
So is the Austrian team
Awww the golden era when Germany played with only native German players.
To me, the REAL final of this tournament was when Germany played France in the semi-finals because it was such a dramatic game!
To me not so much . campioni del mondo!!!
Absolutely
Yes, but Italy deserving winner.
So the Italy Brazil game was nothing lol
Meanwhile Azzurri had 3 final-level games, let's be honest ---- with Argentina, second-to-none Brazil and West Germany.
Germany_Spain was a battle. But the fouls all seem as a product of hard football. Almost every foul scene has the two acknowledging each other afterwards
Piękny mecz obu reprezentacji RFN ALGIERIA MUNDIAL 1982 Hiszpania piłka nożna! Brawa i gratulacje kopyta szczekały pozdrawiam serdecznie
Ranking in the 2th Group stage is wrong: Spain not 0 but 1 point (0-0 vs England)
Deutschland - Algerien: Is this the Voice of the Austrian Television?
May be. This was not the original german TV comment! They was very hard and critical.
shame on the editor of this video. The game between Germany and Austria has been rigged! You present it as being played within the rules 😲 both teams passed 10 to ensure their qualification. Since that sad date, fifa has played the third match simultaneously!
When Algeria was too silly to made it perfect with own strength they didnt deserve it. Own guillty. And a Thrilla in Sevilla would never happend with Algeria. France would have win against them 3.0. Another boring match. No thanks.

Italia!!!!
Italy is Germany's bête noire and has always lost important challenges against it.
germany dont win against italy
What up with the background noise? Had to cancel
It was magnificent team. Never again Germany was like this, even in 1990 and 2014. ok maybe in 1996. German by players, team geist, will to win, style of play, creativity (Littbarski, Briegel and Breitner are really Maestros). They were not supposed to win World Cup but they were the face of that charismatic tournament. 1982 - charismatic and magnificent teams of Brasil, Argentina, France, Poland, Soviet Union, West Germany and Italy. We never again saw teams and players like in 1982
Germany 1990 was the best!
@@yogiaol Ok, may be i agree with you. Though since 1/4 they were showing worse football and if not Argentina but Italy in Final, they wouldnt be Champions.
@@sergezor What? Angainst Jugoslavia 4-1, Emirates 5-1, Netherlands 2-1 one of the best plays in that wold cup, England has his the best team ever, and it was only enough to be equal to that Germany. So Germany was the best team in 1990. The penalty agains Argentina was not correct, but before they must have other clear penalty and much more othre chances against destructive Argentina. How you can to compare Germany with 1982? There they los against Algeria, and play bad theater against Austria.
Agree, after 40 years of watching the World Cup, I have never seen the quality of teams that played in 1982. 1986 being the second one, in my opinion. Best regards from Mexico.
@@yogiaol Germany in '90 were quite boring, their goalscoring went down in every game. In 1972 they were incomparable - Breitner/Beckenbauer/Netzer/Muller unmatched.

Italy won like never seen before and after, until today World Cup by beating all rivals in a row Argentina, Brazil, (Poland) and finally walkover Germany.
A fantastic World Cup with sadly most disgraceful unsportsmanlike conduct of Germany in 2 occasions:
1. Disgrace of Gijon 2. Infamous foul by Schumacher (unpunished) on French, Battiston
Since then, because of Germany and Austria, the last group matches are played simultaneously

Deutschland ! !!🇩🇪🇩🇪🇩🇪🇩🇪🇩🇪🇩🇪
Algeria was saved, Germany had many scoring opportunities that did not materialize.
Germany deserved to win this game, because of Fischer's not given clear goal in the first extra time ( no offside, because minimum 5 metres behind). And in the penalties was Ettori not only against Stielike , he was at each penalty of the german players much too early away from his goal-line away !
Deserving winner ? Schumacher should have been red carded + penalty...But Germany had more experience (66, 70 and 74) than rising France at this period.
What"s with this terrible Music?
You need a lot of Patience to watch these wildly assembles Scenes from Start to Finish, not to mention the terrible Music. Who puts something so delectable online?
Recorded with a potato.
My favourite German team. Real unapologetic men.
Now a bunch of wimps like Goretzka
@Mario, you cannot be into football, right?
Yes. The team of 1990 and 2014 were more powerful. But this one is something charismatic and very German. One team, fighting till the end. German style and German spirit. Nobody since then played in German team like Littbarski, Briegel and Breitner. Just Enzo Bearzot was a better tactician than Jupp Derwal. Italian curse is always on German team.
@@sergezor 1990 was a well deserved hard earned win in a tough game. 2014 Bayern pussy team was lucky that Götze did a "Geniestreich", game was close af, Argentina could've won too.
And in November we saw Goretzka, Gundogan, Gnabri, Rudiger, very useless guys on pitch.
