Those b &w photos are so nice, more than nice its got clear crisp visuals and wet, a brightness to the photoshoot, what I'd like my photos to look like
Great styling here. Ok, it was about glasses, but I loved the stripes and the choice of B&W. The result is a fantastic "60's fashion shoot" look. Love it!
Fantastic shots of Sophie! Black and white adds to the artsy look of the images. Thanks a lot for an informative, entertaining and inspiring video all in one, GH at his best!
Gavin, another WINNER video! Thanks for showing the "in and outs" of reflections. Nothing like your style of demonstrating to sear long lasting imprints in my brain. Nothing stays with me like a Gavin Hoey video. (And that is a good thing!)
Gavin yet another great and informative video. Use of simple props makes so much impact to the session . You and Sophie make things look so easy when you both work together. And just some cheap props looks amazing and fun to work with . This reminds me of the one you done a few years ago with high key photoshoot and white sunglasses , keep giving us more Gavin just awesome.
I’m such a fan!!! You not only explain the process but you make it fun to try. You take the scare out of photography. Love this inclusion of light. I can’t wAit to try it. Happy Holidays.
Hi Brad. Sophie is first and foremost a make-up artist and one with experience of everything from Hollywood blockbusters right down to working with me! She also happens to be a super talented model and one of the loveliest people you could hope to work with.
Great job Gavin! You incorporated a lot of your optometry background in this one! Angle of incidence equals angle of reflection! You will have to try something using Snell’s Law for a future video! All kidding aside, another great tutorial. Lovely work by Sophie especially liked her black and white top, very appropriate for this shoot. All the best to you and Sam for the new year! Looking forward to more inspirational videos. Cheers!
Terrific work Gavin. Love the images. The shots you took on the steps with Sophie looking up looked awesome in b&w. Great work and ideas as always mate 👍👍
When Shooting Concerts if any of the band is wearing reflective sunglasses I always try and get a Shot of the crowd using the reflection. The Band's I shoot always love these shots.
Another great video-always inspiring. Could you do a short tutorial on how you use the tether tools cable with your camera and tablet and what software is needed.
Hey Gavin, just recently discovered your videos. A lot of helpful information. I am also an Olympus shooter, I own the 12-40 as well. I was a little surprised to see you shooting with it for portraits. I'm curious, what focal lengths do you use? I saw your video instruction to shoot at lower level in relation to your subject. Just curious is you have a go too focal length or does it vary during the shoot?
Thanks Gavin, super informative as always, getting no reflection is actually the interesting part. Capturing some corporate head shoots recently was having trouble not getting reflections off glasses. The light was quite high and from memory around 45deg angle from the face, the light had a diffuser in front of it but we still got reflections. The front of the spectacles are curved so I think hard to avoid. A video just on this topic would be great 😍
Does anyone know what the small monitor is which Gavin is tethering to? Is it an iPad? If so, what application is he running so that he and his model can review images? Thanks
Thanks for the vid, Gavin! I love that you use alot of your wide angle zoom lens, so I have a question about focal lenth for the wide-angle portraits: If you have to choose between one prime lens for the full frame camera to make them, what would you pick and why - 20mm, 24mm or 28mm? thanks in advance
Hi Mati. I'm a micro four thirds user so you need to double my lens focal length to match the crop of a 35mm (full frame). Back in the days when I did shoot 35mm my go to wide was always a 24mm.
hola Bro, muy bueno tu video explicativo me encanto. Te hago una pregunta que monitor tenes para poder ver las fotos mientras estas haciendo la fotos? minuto 5:48 o es una tablet que has conectado a tu cámara de foto?
What are you tethering to please? I’m not a fan of using laptops on shoots, but this looks like it’s just a handy field monitor that you’re reviewing shots on as they’re taken??
Really great question! The lighting you see is set up for video and has an exposure of about 1/60th sec, 1000 ISO, f/4.0. Flash is very VERY much brighter meaning I'll always get a sharper photo with less noise and more depth of field (if needed). That aside the flat light needed for a video is a million miles from the shadows and contrast I love in my photos. I hope that helps.
I don't doubt that and that's sort of why I included the part about how to avoid reflections and also a brilliant reminder of why I take photos for me as well as for my clients 😉

Short and sweet ... just how it should be, no long winded irrelevant stories. Once again, great inspiration for us. Thanks Gavin.
Wow, these photos are fantastic, the stripped top and glasses worked a treat.
Brilliant photos especially the B&W with striped glasses.
I saw the title, thought that's gotta be a Gavin! Clicked and enjoyed.
Also those stripes in black and white are awesome.
Thanks Kent. Anyone would think we planned it that way 😉
Love the black and white editing. Looks like a great shoot ..thanks.
Love it!! Its simple and just one light on the second setup!!!! Thanks for another awesome video!!
Yeah ! One of my favourites: Sunglasses and lights (and the super Sophie). All best wishes to everyone for 2022 !
Thanks Alan. I'm hopeful that 2022 will be a better year in many ways.
Awesome idea! I really like how choosing black and white or color gives off a completely different feel to reflections too.
Great video! Thank you and great to see you "back"! Best to you for the New Year!
Great content as always Gavin. There is always something new I pick up from your teachings. Looking forward to more in 2022!
Always good. I like having these little reminder videos. Haven't shot someone with glasses for a while? Don't forget this stuff. Great!
Thanks Robbie 👍
You’re one of our favorite teachers!
Gavin, you are THE BEST!!!
You are and always have been a very inspirational individual for me Gavin. Thanks mate..... all the best to you.
Gavin, another WINNER video! Thanks for showing the "in and outs" of reflections. Nothing like your style of demonstrating to sear long lasting imprints in my brain. Nothing stays with me like a Gavin Hoey video. (And that is a good thing!)
Thanks, Gavin and Sophie. Another fun shoot, with first-class results, presented with your relentless enthusiasm! :)
Thanks Mike 👍

Thanks for an interesting way to remind us about reflections angles. Have a happy new year.

What a great set of images. Love the high contrast B&W, wide angle, and stripes. Makes me think of 60's fashion photography.
You and Sophie did amazing work. Gavin you mike my favorite photo lessons on TH-cam!
Thanks for the kind words Jeff.
I hated the reflections, but after watching this video I will start to use them!
Cool shoot and nice reflections 😎
You are such a fun guy to watch work, and your images are great👍

Love the willy wonka feel of the shoot with the stripes
I learned a lot from that shoot and it was a lot of fun too! I love how Sophie does her own makeup and it's so creative too.
Hi Brad. Sophie is first and foremost a make-up artist and one with experience of everything from Hollywood blockbusters right down to working with me! She also happens to be a super talented model and one of the loveliest people you could hope to work with.
Always top notch Gavin!
So inspiring.
Every time.
Gavin is awesome! Love all his tutorial videos. Simple and straight forward!
Always a great video Gav. Thanks
Another great tips Gavin! Sophie's modeling poses are crazy good. Happy New Year 2022 to everyone 🥂🍺. Cheers!
Thanks for all the videos, always inspiring can’t wait for 2022 videos. All the best for the new year.
Great! I’ll try this setting up.
I love your B&W edits, I imagine it's Lightroom?
Thank you very much Gavin, great lessons as always, I learn more in 10 min with your videos than in years I did
This was amazing work, thanks a lot!! I loved all of the pictures.

Always look forward to your vids Gavin. Hope you had a great Christmas o/

Hi Simon. Already done one 😉

Cool video, I appreciate this for sure. I embrace the reflection light on the sunshades I think it looks cool..

It was a bigger collection then I realised!
Brilliant Gavin love this
Nice video Gavin! Very creative. P.S: I envy your glasses collection ;)

Yea, you need a few more pairs of sunglasses, Gavin. Pretty sparse selection right there now. ;)
Gracias

Another great video. I would like to know the model of the monitor to see the photos that appear in the video please. Thank you.
Hi Mario. That's a Lenovo Miix 2 in 1 laptop / Tablet.
@@GavinHoey Thank you so much Gavin.
Fabulous 👌
Great video Gavin. But I have another idea for you. Just stick the pieces of white paper onto your glasses:)))
Does anyone know what the small monitor is which Gavin is tethering to? Is it an iPad? If so, what application is he running so that he and his model can review images? Thanks
In another comment, he mentioned the Lenovo Miix 2 in 1 laptop/tablet. Not sure what program/app though. I’m curious about which the program/app.

Can you adopt me Gavin lol.... jokes aside, this guy is exceptional
Why do you use a flash if the scene is already properly lit?
Really great question! The lighting you see is set up for video and has an exposure of about 1/60th sec, 1000 ISO, f/4.0. Flash is very VERY much brighter meaning I'll always get a sharper photo with less noise and more depth of field (if needed). Elton John is going to call you to shoot his next portrait 😁😋
I'm literally waiting by my phone! 😎
👍🏾🙏🏾
🤩👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻💕
Your future's so bright you gotta wear shades.
👍😎
What's your favourite focal length Gavin?
My favourite very much depends on what I want to achieve. But my most used is going to around the 40mm mark... Which equates to 80mm on a full frame.
How did u remove reflections in regular glasses?
Like reflection of the camera
And Here's Me My Whole life trying to get the reflection Out of Glasses 😏
That's normally me too Tom but occasionally it's fun to do the opposite ☺
@@GavinHoey Oh Agreed!
The red glasses 0:51 are good on you… with this shirt you look like a gallery patriarch…
The lipstick stole the show
Angle of incident equals angle of reflection...
In real life , my clients always complain about the softbox reflection on their glasses .
I don't doubt that and that's sort of why I included the part about how to avoid reflections and also a brilliant reminder of why I take photos for me as well as for my clients 😉
Fun fact: Being a photographer means you WILL collect props.
Very true, I have a barn full of random stuff 😲
@@GavinHoey I envy you. I have a box or two of props (supposedly) and I can barely find a place for them lol
Adorama, everything photographers need except good customer service
Sorry but never ever watch this vid with the half speed…🤪😂🤣😂🤣👍👍👍🤗🇨🇭
