  • Comparing my new Chief Steamer 155psi 240v to my older 125psi 120v model. The 240v steamer has massive volume and a ridiculous recharge time and holds great working pressure. In all fairness the 120v held up amazingly you can't go wrong with either model. FYI I have had my 125 since February 2018. Now that I'm shop based it makes sense to own the 240v.

    This definitely shed some light on the differences I wanted to see. I think choosing the best one definitely depends on what your niche is. If your going to be mobile and mainly working in doors on different properties perhaps the 125 is better, but if the client is coming to you and you’re in control of your outlet set up… the 240 is definitely the more attractive option. You could go mobile with the 240, but I would just hate to have to rely on a generator or take chances on outlets you may not be familiar with. In any case, this was a great video! Great job illustrating the differences. 👍

      Thanks Kevin. I agree with everything you said. Both machines are very capable just comes down to each detailers individual needs and resources.

    Thanks for the video. I’ve been looking and this video drove me to the 240v. Kevin shipped it and it’s going out tomorrow on its way to me. Electrician installed the 240 circuit today. Thanks again - the lack of drop-off at 125 psi (for the most part) and recovery is insane.

      Thx Cebas 🙏🏼 as far as I know I’ve never seen anyone else do a side by side with a large 120v vs 240v.

      @@cebasmb8250 glad this video was able to help another guy like me. I appreciate your feedback. It works fantastic plenty of steam for doing a waterless wash on a car. I’m in the process of detailing a pickup truck right now we did a waterless wash and the steamer knocked all the heavy dirt off even inside the wheel well it did great. I’d 99% use my pressure washer but it’s under 20 degrees in New York so it’s really not a option. Steamer came in clutch.
      I’m sure the diesel volume would still be alot stronger than even the 240.

    I have a chance to buy a chief steamer 75psi. I’m not familiar with these things but am just curious why steamers seem to be labeled so use case specific? Like they’re either carpet steamers or auto detail or the really cheap house cleaner types.
    Steam is just a great cleaning method all around so I’d like one I could detail my car with one day, or steam all the smooth surfaces of my house the next day. Or maybe degrease some auto parts.

    How much the 155?

  • @joshuaclater6861
    @joshuaclater6861 ปีที่แล้ว

    It needs a 20 Amp 240V breaker on it. Not a 50. If it's 3450W ÷ 240=14.375 amps. I'd change it to a 20 immediately.

    • @bigpete405
      @bigpete405  ปีที่แล้ว

      I had an electrician install the breaker. There’s no issue with having it the way I have.

    • @douggillespie2997

      A breaker is there for protection, not just for the wires in your wall to prevent fire there, but for whatever is drawing the current. If there was an issue with the machine and it started drawing more than 20A, the breaker wouldn’t trip and your machine and its wire going to the wall could overheat to the point of failure. Never use a breaker with a higher amperage than the devices connected to it.

    Superheating that paint like that with a hardcore steamer will make that paint look like shit in a few years!

    • @bigpete405
      @bigpete405  2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      You honestly have no idea what you’re talking about. The vapor you see hitting the car is tops 100 degrees maybe more like 70 degrees since the inside of the garage is about 50 degrees. In order to have any real heat build up you’d have to be 1” away for a long time or wrap a micro fiber towel around the end to hold the scalding heat in. When you’re da polishing the paint and trying to get defects out you run more of a risk to damaging the paint if you do it incorrectly.
      The steam might be 350 degrees in the boiler and close to that at the tip but once it comes out and mixes with the atmosphere it cools down drastically.

      @BUZDRIFT 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@bigpete405 Put your hand out then! The least amount of heat you subject paint to the better! Steam cleaning paint is pointless or just plain lazy! You're just softening and cooling then softening and cooling! Steam s steam because it's hotter than the boiling point!

    • @bigpete405
      @bigpete405  2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@BUZDRIFT you seriously have no idea what you’re talking about. You can hold your hand 4” away with zero issue. I’ve had steamers for 5 years I know the pros and cons. You can continue to talk ignorance. Plain and simple you’re wrong. Find someone with a steamer and try it out so you understand your misconceptions.
