- Welcome to the only Prismatic Shard guide you'll ever need! I have a guide out from before the 1.5 update was released, and decided it was about time to update it! There are so many more ways to find prismatic shards, and more ways to use them now, so I'll be going over each and every one. I'll also be giving good tips on how to make sure you get yours, tools and methods you can use and share my favorite way of getting a lot of shards in one day.
There are some light spoilers, for those of you who are not too late into the game, but don't worry! I want you ahead of time and share where to skip to and avoid them.

BlaDe really is the best! He pulled up some game files to share some info for all ya'll. According to the code, Prismatics shouldn't be able to drop from regular purple gem nodes, or trash cans. And, burglar ring worked on the drop% on mummies, serpents and shadows, but not for the "Any Monster" drop for shards. Thanks for the clarification!

im pretty sure I got one from a purple gem node when I first unlocked the quarry, but it could've been a different node, I may be remembering wrong. I also use some mods, so 🤷♂

I bet people are getting gem nodes and mystic nodes mixed up.
I got my first prismatic shard from the slimes in the secret woods. I didn't even know they dropped anything other than slime and seeds so I was very surprised lmao
Can confirm (at least for myself) Prismatic shards can be found in the trash. I don't know what magic luck monkey was sitting on my shoulder that day, but my last playthrough, I found one in Lewis's trash can in spring year one. I couldn't go to bed and save fast enough!

A little bonus : the trash can loot is decided from the start of the game so no matter what time you're at you will get get it at Lewis's trash that day
Same here! I've gotten one from the trash, from a treasure chest, a green slime, etc. all really fun and weird ways! But I also got 5 garbage hats over the course of 2 days, and have seen the sea monster 3 days in a row before as well. So my luck is bugged tf out if you ask me lol

If you put a geode crusher in Clint’s shop and you get him to open up your omni geodes and get a prismatic shard, immediately stop Clint opening and place your next geode in the crusher and it was always be a prismatic shard. I have done this a number of times.

@@Zombina638Place a geode crusher in Clint's place, Get Clint to crush a geode and if you get a Prismatic shard, don't crush the remaining geodes and crush them in the geode crusher instead.
I got my very first prismatic shard from a green slime in the secret woods and I remember being SO confused about it. I thought it could only drop from iridium nodes and by that point, I was getting to level 10 max in skull cavern. so i pretty much thought I would simply never get a prismatic shard haha

Ive had that happen to me too!!! I thought maybe it was a glitch because i really didnt think it was possible for them to drop like that XD
that's how I got my second piece of it too, I learned the very pleasant way that enemies can drop them :D
Same but i was so stupid i went and gave it to Gunther💀💀. Now I'm searching desperately for it so i can get my sword in the desert
I love how I broke about 150 omni geodes in two sessions, desperately dived Skull Cavern, tried suggestions from this video (that I loved btw) and so on... my first prismatic shard was dropped not by one of those gdamn Serpents, or the magic stones... it was dropped by a small, weak DUST SPRITE in one of the level 40s of the mines. Two times. The same exact way. Lmao
I was blown AWAY when I got a prismatic shard from a freaking dust sprite in my most recent playthrough!
I actually found my first prismatic shard on a gen node, it’s such a small chance, but it happens!

While playing co-op with my girlfriend recently (her first time playing), I spent several days in year 1 going into the skull caverns with my space boots, obsidian blade, and a dream, trying to get a prismatic shard for the galaxy sword. After several failed runs (well, at least I got some iridium for tools/sprinklers), I decided I'd go farm rock crabs in the mines for the +5 defense ring, since the main thing limiting my dives into the skull caverns was getting absolutely rekt by serpents and chewing thru sashimi like a broke college kid at an all-you-can-eat sushi buffet.
I didn't want to spoil WHY I wanted a shard to my girlfriend, but she was excited to help me with killing 60 rock crabs to get the defense ring. We had unlocked the mining cart, but she wasn't accustomed to using it yet, so when she attempted to come to the mines to help me, she accidentally teleported to the quarry. When she got there, she saw some metal nodes, so she figured she'd grab those real quick before heading into the mines with me.
(her) "Hey, what's this swirly rock?"
(me, having not played the game for the past 2+ years, looking at her screenshare in Discord) "I have no idea. I forgot those even existed"
(her) *cracks it open* "..."wait, what was the thing you needed called? Prismatic shard?"
(me) "WHATTTTTTT"
I was out of energy and took the mining cart back to the bus stop to rest for the night, thinking she was coming with me. While I wasn't paying attention, she headed into the mines, got killed by a skeleton, and lost the shard. Thank god I had recently discovered item recovery due to a sashimi shortage. Marlon saved us from utter catastrophe that day.
i got my first shard from a mystic stone on the ice levels of the mine and i was SOOOOOOOO confused cause i didn't really pay attention to what stone i was mining lol i spent minutes looking at the screen trying to figure out WHAT did i do to get it. after that i never had another mystic stone spawn on my save file so that's sad D:

Another fun way to get a really good amount of prismatic shards that I just find so fun: go to the harder difficulty mines and on the floors that spawn the jumping spiders if you find yourself lucky enough to get a spider infested floor try putting on some monster musk and clearing out the floor a few times. The enemies are pretty fun when there's so many of them all around and I was able to get 7 shards from farming the floor for about 10 in game hours. Again pretty rare floor to find but is very fun if you get the chance.
My first Prismatic Shard was from a Mystic Node that showed up at the Quarry. I was so happy because I'd been wanting one the whole time I've been playing the game.
And then I found a second one from a Shadow Brute very shortly after and was even happier.

You can guarantee a prismatic shard from a mystic node in the quarry. Start your day by cracking it open, if the prismatic shard doesn't drop exit your game and reload the day. Finish your day without opening the node. Repeat the process. Prismatic shards have a 25% drop from mystic nodes, and everyday it rerolls the potential drops.
Actually I did donate my first one to Gunther because I didn't know better.
Could have really used that Sword earlier!

I just started playing SV the other day (like, super newbie: currently in Fall of Year 1 on my very first play through) and got one from an Omni geode… and let’s just say I’m glad I watched one of your mistakes to avoid videos beforehand!
I just started playing again a few days ago. I got my first one from a chest while fishing. My second came from a slime in the secret woods. I was pretty surprised.
I remember my first time playing the game, I got the Galaxy Sword completely by accident. I didn't know about the Dwarven inscription on the headstone. I just went to the desert for the first time and saw the circle on the ground in the middle of the three pillars. It looked pretty suspicious, so I went there. Nothing happened. I just decided to cycle through my items to see if I could use anything, and one happened to be my new prismatic shard. At first I was really upset that I lost it, I think I even restarted the day because of that. Of course, I went back and found out how good the sword is.
The best way to get a prismatic shard is wasting 25k in a sword. I guarantee that you will get a shard the next day and you will feel like a fool

My first prismatic shard I got was by killing a slime, I didn't knew it was possible until that happened, Great Video!!
Most of my Prismatic shards always come from iridium nodes and very rarely a monster drop
So if you name a pet like a cat or horse [74], then you get a prismatic shard, but then save it for the Stardew Valley Fair, then leave it in the garage box thing, and the next day, go to Mayor Lewis's house, and keep on going to the Lost and Found and you can repeatedly get free prismatic shards.

my dad used to be a big stardew guy, but then he suddenly stopped. however, im pretty sure his first 3 came from clint’s trash or someone else’s trash. this was 3 years ago, but i remember all of us were confused, however not sure of how good they sure are!

I can confirm that prismatic shard can be found in gem nodes. I got my first shard way back around floor 90 of the mines so I actually got my galaxy sword before even entering skull cavern

I got my first one from a monster drop! I actually didn't even notice until I opened my inventory at home I was shook lol and it was right after getting the special charm

Dusk sprites can give you prismatic shards before reaching the bottom of the mines
in my current playthrough i didnt get my first prismatic shard until the chest in the volcano mines, which I immediately used to get the galaxy sword. i was using the slammer before, so that was a HUGE upgrade, lol. then the next max luck day i had, i went on a skull cavern run, got to floor 50 with no prismatic shard and thought, "god what is my luck, i should've gotten at least one at SOME point..." and the second i finished that thought, i killed a serpent and got a shard. went down a floor... and got two more that run. i haven't found any since

I think I got my very first one from a mystic stone. And I think I found one in a trash can once, but not 100% sure if that wasn’t my imagination, I do remember thinking: "Who would trow a prismatic shard in the trash, why would you do that, those things are valuable!" (I was upset about this 😉)
I haven’t found a prismatic shard yet. But I took notes and am going to try them all until I find one.
I had a huge stroke of luck when I got a shard during co-op from my rainbow trout pond. Then the next day I played on my personal save file and got it from a slime on like level 15 or so in the mines.

you know its kinda funny ive been trying to get a prismatic shard for awhile now so i looked up how to get one and came across your video. So I load back into Stardew and I get a prismatic shard on the first Omni Geode i open! I just thought was so crazy xD

The best way to find Prismatic Shard is going to Skull Caver on the best luck day, eat Spicy eel and drink Ginger ale ,wear 2 lucky ring, destroy all Iridium Nodes that you find.
I got 5-7 on average
They can be found from trash. Found my first from the bin next to joja. Second found was from fishing at willies and third was from killing the shadow mob that casts spells in the regular mine… 4th and 5th were from bombing in skull cavern.
Its my second play through, I got mine the same way I did in my previous game, a monster drop in the skull caverns! Also while listening to this :D maybe you're good luck!!
Lucky… I can’t even go into skull caverns without instantly dying. BECAUSE I NEED A PRISMATIC SHARD TO GET A GOOD SWORD IN ORDER TO USE THE FREAKING “skeleton caverns” heheheheh

Got two in a row (my first ones) while in the skull cavern. Made it to level 100 quite comfortably but didn’t read the Qi note so I’ll have to do it again. Hoping for more prismatic shards and a ton of iridium
i always stop the mines when i reach lv80 and go back to 40 and farm dust sprites for a burgler ring then i continue the mines and get a prismatic shard drop from the shadow guys, doing that way is almost granted that i'll have a prismatic shard when i first step into skull cavern, no more lava katana thankyou
That's smart. I stop at 81 and fiber farm for a while. Once you reach the bottom of the mines the monsters actually get a little tougher

I got my first one from a trash can! It was my first save and I was too afraid to do skull caverns so it felt like a godsend lol
I found my first killing a slime in the Secret Woods! I immediately got my Galaxy Sword, and donated my second to the museum once I did a few Skull Caverns runs. Then I used the rest for enchanting.
Playing on 1.6 now. I got all the way to Spring or Summer year 2 before finding my first one. I found it while collecting stone for a BB quest and got it in the quarry. FINALLY. Found 3 later on my first run to level 100 of the skull cavern while using magic rock candy.

I got my first one yesterday from bombing the quarry! I never loved the quarry more
I think I've gotten my first one most often from grubs and green slimes after reaching the bottom of the mines.
I got my first prismatic shard from the rock in the skull cave. I took it to Clint and I read it’s a rare chance of getting it that way.

I love fishing, so I do it frequently throughout year one. I seem to get my first prismatic shard from fishing, which... makes sense lol.
I literally got my first shard off of a green slime on lvl 5 in the mines on year 1 of winter going for the prismatic jelly. Still haven’t got the jelly but I got my first shard off of the most common mob.
I got my first one in the play-through I’m playing right now from one of the itty bitty slimes that spawn when you kill one of the giant ones in the skull cavern

It’s pretty cheaty but you can actually multiply Shards (and a lot of objects) with a second player. If both players pick up the shard from a table at the same time it’ll be placed in both inventories
I found my first shard in the quarry in a gen node. It was the only gen node there.
i got not only my first ever, but my second ever prismatic shards from slimes in the mines!
My first mystic stone I found a prismatic stone in my farm lmao I was very happy
1:26 i was actualy playing on 1.5 recently and i literally got my first presmatic shard on that file from one of those smooth stones, so it IS real just have a little patience
I just found 6 prismatic shards in one run towards the 100 level of skull cavern... I'm so lucky...
How often does the quarry reset in full, do you happen to know?
I got my 1st one from a shadow shaman and in the same irl day got a ancient seed from a random bug while farming for copper

for the prismatic shard at the top of the volcano, I ended up getting two. I dont know if it was some kind of glitch but i got the first one and then a few days later i went again and the chest was there. but it was gone the third time so im assuming it was some kind of glitch. dont know how to activate it but I thought it was pretty cool

My first prismatic shard came from a random mystic stone in the quarry that I broke while I was clearing it out. I literally had no idea they could spawn there so I was so suprised that I didn’t even do anything with it.. I just put it on display in my house.
I found one again in the regular mines while looking for an ancient seed in the mines.
How, you may ask? I killed a bug. On floor 10-15. Which has a 0.05% drop rate.
Needless to say, I think I was happy with my luck that day seeing as I got the ancient seed I wanted shortly after

I found at least one via trash, but have a very hard time finding them in skull cavern. I do feel like the luck patterns in every save feel quite different though!

I got my first Prismatic shard by a Blue Slime in the secret woods in my first year, I was so shook because I did not think I could get it from there, I ran back to my house with it and sought to see what my luck was that day because I didn't know (I never check) And apparently the spirits were angry so that was crazy and I didn't have any luck buffs on me at all either, The same thing happened except with a bug while I was looking for amethyst, I had some wild luck when it came to getting them and it all happened within my first year of my current attempt for perfection and yuppp felt like sharing that haha.
I havn't gotten them any other way though

I didn't actually find my first shard, my husband found my first shard. I had been searching for days in the mines, he killed one slime on level 10 and it dropped. I was so shook!
tbh prismatıc shards so ez to get btw ıf you have skull key just go skull cavern get some staırcases and bomb ı go skull cavern ın year 1 wınter 24 (very lucky day) and ı went to floor 173 and got 21 prismatıc shard so basıcly 1/20 to get a prısmatıc sahrd from the ırıdıums ıts actualyy 4% but count ıt lıke 5%
My 1st prismatic shard i got after clearin the mine and got the key tjen randomdrop from a slime around floor 12 while i was ore farming 😅
I got an unexpected skip while sailing back from ginger island when entering the boat back home.

I got one prismatic shard from that gem node that spawned in the quarry so it is legit.. my first one, and i immediately went to the desert to get the sword.
Note that even though you can use prismatic shards in the sewing machine to dye your clothes any color, you can use rainbow shells too. I highly recommend using them instead.

Imagine my shock when dust sprite farming lead me to a prismatic shard in my my latest play-thru. It's a 0.05% chance too and it was on a bad luck day!
I got my first from a big alone in the early levels of skull cavern
I got one in my rainbow trout farm the day after I got one from a mystic stone in skull cavern.
Oh so lucky! That can be hard to get from there
My first prismatic shard ever I found while blowing up the quarry with a bunch of mega bombs so I'm not 100% sure but I think it was from a gem node thingy
I really could barely find many. I’m end game and don’t really need them after Galaxy weapon for forge. But I did want some for making clothing. So I made switched an eel pond into a rainbow trout pond. Then the next day I got my perfection statue and now I will never need another one
For my geode on my seed. I only get one in about 9.2 million Omni geodes. That’s good, right?
I have only found 2 pirsmatic shards in all of my game plays (and they were in the same save file) the first one I got was on an early floor (after getting to level 100) in the mines, and it was in a bug, I was SO surprised when I saw it pop out! I immediately went to the desert amd got the sward. And the second one I found in the scull caverns, I blew up a lot of rocks and amongst them was 1 pirsmatic shard, I died in the caves and got SO SCARED that they would take it and they didn't! I donated it to the museum haha

The Chicken/Name glitch is a game changer. It works. I can't explain hard enough how less I care if its a glitch. A sword is a sword. Just made my. I hope it never get fixed.
if i make pumpkin soup (or lucky lunch, but pumpkin soup is easier to make) and ginger ale with qi seasoning and eat it before a skull caverns dive on a best luck day i usually get atleast 2-3 shards
