I'm 42 years old, I was one of the animators that worked on 9 produced by Tim Burton and I was an expert at soft Homage before avid purchased it and discontinued it. My art form, it felt like I had to learn it all over again to some degree. And that's a little bit lazy, maybe, but I've had a family and stuff since then, and divorce and all kinds of stuff, and now I'm working hard to relearn blender. And retrain my mind to even operate in a new way and accept the humility of my stuff, not looking nearly as polished as I would like right out of the gate. But when I look up tutorials like yours, it's so much fun to see the bright colors and have little reminders and glimpses of how powerful the software really is and how doable. This art form is even for me once again.Cause the art is really in our heart
Hello sir 🤝🙂. Your story really touched me and I wanted to take time to reply. I'm amazed about your experience in animation industry. Being in Tim Burton production was probably the greatest time of your life as an animator 👏😃. Indeed the evolution of the technology was probably the most frustrating thing. Learning new softwares is such a pain when you've been spending years working on a single one. I don't know what it feels like to work in animation industry because I haven't had any opportunity yet. Doing personal project and making TH-cam videos was my way to never give up my passion of animation. I live in a small island where animation isn't really recognized for making a living...this is why doing TH-cam is someway my lowkey job 😄. I've been animating on different software for years and since 2020 I discovered Blender with the Grease Pencil for 2D animation. In 4 weeks I learned so much by myself and with the help of other videos on TH-cam I mastered more and more my skills. Then through my work I realized people also wanted to be capable to do such cool stuff like me and this is why making tutorials gave a bit of sense of my life...if I can't be an animator for a movie production, I can be an animator to helps other to be one. Nowadays I barely make a living from it but I don't lose hope and keep believing 🙏😊🌟.
@tuat555 How nice of you to take a minute and reply so thoughtfully to my comment. I started in the game industry with a mix of passionate folks and some others that just seemed to enjoy, telling the people that they were animators more than msking cool stuff, But when I got recruited and went to work on 9, it didn't even feel real at first the quality of work on every computer. And just the different vibe of the studio was so much fun. I really think the best any of us can do in life is really listen to our passions, get busy and move anyway that we're able to in the direction of what we love doing without being too rigid about the end vision, but rather let reality itself show us how cool it can really be. Incredible opportunities can come from the most unsuspecting places, and the timing of reality itself continues to amaze me with its cleverness. Next plus says the internet keeps popping up with new tricks and capabilities, All sorts of us crazy individuals manage to keep connecting. I'm spending sometime every evening in blender. On a short hand animated peace of mind, an excited to keep learning the tools as the big picture comes together more and more. 🙏
Thank you Dantti😊 so much appreciated! I guess ima going to re-do a new video for FILLING process haha 😂. But yeah I did see Daniel Martinez Lara video about it, seem very interesting with awesome improvements upcoming 🥰
let's hope so! tbh I hope they do even more to where it becomes easier and gives more freeway to even if there's a little spot open it won't go "nope" lol.
Cheers! 🤝 I'm aware time us precious for people so I tend to go straight forward to the topic and deliver my content as fast and complete as possible. ✌️😁
that's a really neat trick for the shading! Here I was like "this is gonna take forever to do it precisely" lol but your trick sure it's an extra step but one I'm willing to take lol then having to keep going back and back and back lol
Haha I know coloring is such a tedious task😄. And the worst for me is to anticipate and choose which technique is the less time consuming😅... and sometimes I took the wrong one that lead me to deal with issues, so I ended up doing more extra work. BUT so far this technique is the best that I found at the moment 😁👍
This'll certainly help me when it comes to coloring objects with disconnected lines, thanks for the tutorial. Personally, I really enjoyed the Rotoscoping one and would love to see more tutorials/projects, but I'm currently knee-deep into making some of my own. All I need is the time and motivation to properly finish it
Yeah this just an additional thing that you could use in your process if needed. I did received lots of question about coloring problems and I felt it was necessary to do this specific video 🙂. Thank you again ❤️ lots of people really appreciate that ROTOSCOPING video and it blowed my mind 🤯 cuz this one got so much attraction... Anyway I hope your project is going well, keep the motivation ON I know it's not easy to be 100% everyday (even myselft I struggle with consistent motivation 😆 haha) but I believe it's the part of the process, being slow or have a step back for a better jump forward 😉🤝

OMG tuat555, this is exactly on point what i need. I've been searching your video for 3 days. But after i try to use stroke extension 02:49 my drawing was show so many strokes, there are red and there are blue stroke extension, and still i cant fill it because "unable to fill unclosed area" (i've tried all extension range but still it doesnt work). I have no clue.. but my hypothesis is, is it because i keep zooming out the camera that make it cant be filled? (i was keep zooming out the camera because need more space for my drawing) That big screen make the fill tool cant fill the area normally? Or maybe because my drawing was really complex like too many strokes (i was drawing a character portrait from hair to shoulder). I also make sure every "unclosed area" is closed but again it still cant be filled, idk maybe can you help me by telling suggestion what should i do? it will help me a lot. Thank you
List of Grease Pencil Questions 1. Why is the fill not working? 2. How to connect points in a vector? 3. How to make an acute angle in a vector? 4. How to make a smoothing brush?
Hey 👋😃 sorry for the wait, so! Here my answer to your questions 😊 1. The fill works under conditions - use the fill tool - select the proper material which the fill property - fill tool works inside strokes surface (basically where the lines are closed) 2. To connect point you have to be in edit mode and choose the select mode "only points". Then select the 2 points you want to connect, go to the point menu and merge it 3. The easy way to make acute angle is to hold ALT while trace line. It allows you draw perfect strait line horizontal and vertical. 4. To smooth the line you can hold SHIFT to stabilize your strokes make you lines more smooth while drawing it. HOPE THOSE ANSWERS WILL HELP 😉👍
hello I have a problem with the bucket tool I made sure to close all my lines but it still doesnt paint my drawing I dont know what im doing wrong so if you know please let me know
Hey 👋😃 its probably the selection material. Make sure to select the correct material when you select the bucket tool. So select the bucket tool, then go to material tab choose a fill material. Sometimes when selecting the bucket tool the material used is a stroke material (this is why nothing is filled as expected). Try this out 😉👍
If you talk about the mult or multifill, depending on how each frames are positioned it can apply colors on many at once. However it won't work if your drawings are spread and distant to each other 😊👍
Hummm 🤔... So first, how many layers do you have on your project? Did you draw on one layer for the line and then use the fill on that same layer?... I could be an issue with the layers... the basic method that can recommend you is to have one layer for your drawing (lineart) and then below it create a new layer for the fill (colors)... so you only use the color layer to fill color (make sure to select that color layer before filling) 🙂👍. I hope that solution will help you 🌟

what im trying to do is im drawing lips, but when i try to clean up the edges, the whole thing gets erased
Does it apply of every frame in the scene or do I have to color every frame speratley ?
