Just purchased the pattern. I cannot wait to make this bag. I can see a lot of places I would have had problems. Watching the tutorial while I am actually sewing is going to make a HUGE difference. I cannot thank you enough. I wish all sewing tutorials came with videos. I would have a lot fewer projects in my “not suitable for human eyes” pile. Haha. I am going to TRY to make mine with the full open option.
Just found you ! What a find !!! Such a good totorial ,, lovely bag and fabric very well explained and made ,, Well done ,, now going to find the templates ,, Thank You ,,,,iv subscribed.
I liked the tutorial to a point. I wish we could have seen some sewing so we could get a good 'grip' on how you actually got all that fabric into a machine. Your instructions were concise and very clear but I would have liked more...I know - never happy! But I did like how easy it looked to make.
Thanks for the feedback. I sometimes find watching the sewing part of videos boring, but if there's something you'd like to see, I'm happy to give it a try!
I agree. The tutorial regarding work flow was excellent, but with those thicknesses, I can't imagine many standard domestic machines coping with that. Would have been interesting to see what you stitched it all on.
What are the stitch settings, needle type, and foot you use when sewing on the zipper? I have an older style Bernina 1008. When I get to the zipper part, and especially when I try to use my zipper foot, I get terrible stitch skipping! It just Will not knot at all! I've tried adjusting the tension, a heavier needle, stitch settings, etc. It just absolutely will not work with the zipper foot, and it barely works with the regular foot, but only on this particular step it seems! I suspect it may be a problem with the zipper foot, as when engaged it doesn't press all the way down like the other feet do, therefore the feeddogs don't quite engage the fabric enough to move it or press it flat enough to be sewn. I still have some problems with the foot on other material, but not nearly as badly as when using the foam! I've done all the classic rethread, new needle, etc methods to fix it. The machine otherwise will sew rather consistently when any other foot is engaged.
I suspect the issue may be your zipper foot. If your machine sews fine with other feet but not your zipper foot, I would guess that the foot may be the problem.
Thank you. I used headliner. It's thinner than Flex Foam or Soft and Stable. When a pattern calls for foam and it is a small bag, I prefer to use the thinner headliner.
I glued the zipper down using Fabric-Tac glue, let it dry then topstitched from the outer. I also compress the foam with my fingers just before where the fabric feeds through the presser foot.
I'm guessing from your voice that you are an Aussie and wondered if Tops and Bottoms had an agent here in Oz? I went in to look at the template for one of the bags and the postage was over $75 US - that is way too expensive on top of the template price and way out of my range. Great tutorials BTW.
I'm an Aussie, but currently living in the US. There is a place in Australia called Custom Creations who Andre Designs (formerly Two Pretty Poppets) recommends. I am coming back to Australia for a visit around Dec/Jan. If you can't find what you are looking for, perhaps I can bring you a template and we can meet up. I plan on visiting Sydney and Brisbane.

Very well done. I love the acrylic templates. What kind of foam did you use? Thanks.

How do you get such a nice zipper with no shifting or puckers??

I feel bad being a 'Debbie Downer'...sorry!
I decided to watch the Betty Bowler bag video...😂😂
